Another early morning trip into Mazatlan…

Another foggy morning...
Today our pulmonia driver was Jorge and he spoke excellent English. In fact he has travelled extensively in both Canada and the USA. He was a delight to be with. Yes he agreed this was the coldest winter in record here in Mazatlan. He was born here and wonders why the summers are hotter and the winters are colder. He claims that the whales are now being seen closer to Mazatlan because the ocean is much colder. He told us not to worry because a warm front was coming next week and we would feel some heat again. We sure hope so. Meanwhile he wanted to know our thought on his city Mazatlan. Did we like it here? How often did we visit? Look over there, isn’t that a picture (he was referring to the view)? Look at that fellow ( an extremely obese elderly male wearing only shorts & shoes) …do you think he dresses like that on the street in his own country?? Yes Jorge was indeed a neat fellow. The next day I discovered that a fellow Rver had also travelled into town with him and enjoyed all that Jorge had to offer. Jorge left us with some interesting food for thought….he wanted it known that Mexicans only fight & kill their enemies unlike other countries that wage wars and kill innocent people!!!
After our errands we went to the Ramada Resort for a late breakfast. How delightful, clean, high class, beautiful, lovely music ( I wanted to dance rather than eat), good food, great prices and wonderful service. The only other patrons were Mexicans, I strongly recommend this location for a non tourist breakfast.

The beach here is rather narrow and today perhaps because of the tide, rather steep. The beach on the Isla is much better for walking.

Back home to watch this butterfly play in my garden!

So ends Friday, please let the weekend be quieter....

…not quite! As I said we have been a tad busy! The day started out bright and early with the RV repairman knocking on our door. We’ve been waiting since mid-November for him to reappear. Remember when we arrived on Nov. 1, we had managed to get hit by a large rock on the road in…well now it was time for the repairs.

Colin had been quoted 1000 pesos to repair 2 basement doors...

So for $83.00CAD we got the underside lip painted on 4 doors including body work on one.

...the paint color is not a perfect match but it may eventually fade to the original color but to redo just the painting next winter to get a better match is only $40.00.
Our neighbor Carl has an almost antique washing machine that he travels with. As I was getting behind in my hand washing I asked him if we could use it just the once as it would save me hours scrubbing in the kitchen sink.
While I was working the lever to swish the clothes I noticed that Caeli seemed rather intrigued by something along the wall….please not another scorpion!

...a bat...

Carl checked it out in detail.....yuck!!

While Colin continues swishing and rinsing and ringing the laundry the neighbors decide to start happy hour early, the vendors decided to visit en masse and so goes a typical Thursday.

...finally I joined in with the happy hour group!!! So ends a quiet Thursday in RV1.....I think we are becoming just a wee bit rowdy!!!

Sorry I haven’t posted in a bit but we have been a tad occupied. Last Wednesday was a multiple cruise ship day and we usually stay on the Isla to avoid the crowds but we didn’t.

We are still experiencing fog in the mornings making this arrival almost mystical.

We had some overnight beach campers, it was high tide, lucky they camped far enough back.

After the errand we just had to run into town for, Colin treated me to a late breakfast at Pancho's in the Golden Zone.

While there we were inundated by the usual beach vendors but this group was different. They had a limited repertoire but performed some dancing, juggling and hoop tossing. The other vendors stopped hawking their wares to enjoy the performance. Had it not been a cruise day we would have missed this show!.

Certainly lots of beach activity. I'm glad we did it.

Once back at the embarcadero we notice a huge increase in armed police presence and once we got down to the lancha we were surprised to see two mini boats each equipped with militia and machine guns!!! Perhaps this is in response to the accidental shooting of a tourist a few days previously.

End of day the ship leaves and we settle into our quiet Isla life.

How would you like to make a huge impact on the lives of stray dogs & cats here in Mazatlan? You don’t even have to come to Mexico. All you need to do is to vote online everyday between now and March 20th. The Amigos de los Animales is a local animal shelter funded 100% by donations and the love of volunteers. This organization does make a huge impact in Mazatlan. You can read about them on their website and in an article written by a fellow Rver Carole Kirkwood who now calls Mazatlan her home and this shelter her job!
So how can you help you ask? All you have to do is to click here every day! By going to that link and clicking on it you are voting in a contest put on by an Animal Rescue Group where the winner will win money to help in the care of their particular animal shelter. So once you click here then you will simply change the county name to Mexico and the city to Mazatlan. You can add the shelter name of ‘Amigos de los Animales’ if you like but it is not necessary. An animal photo will come up and you fill in the name of the animal you see and that is it!! Easy to do daily!!
Please help the strays of Mazatlan. It takes but a moment of your day and will make a huge difference if the shelter wins!!

This little guy we found asleep in a pile of gravel would be happy if you voted everyday! Gracias!
