"The Sky is Falling"

….said Chicken Little!

I sort of feel that the sky is falling on us also!!

I have been on an enforced RV rest, no walking, no stairs, nothing but resting and relaxing.  My body is still trying to recover from an incident I had the end of June and has been getting worse rather than better.  Colin read me the riot act, do nothing but get better or else!  So I haven't been to the house for a few days, not even by golf cart.  Rather then deal with things the past few months I just pushed thru the pain and  kept doing things.  Now I am at the breaking point with no choice but to sit or the sky will fall on me!!

Colin goes to the new place every night to check on things and to just sit and think.  He noticed last night that the main support beam in the house is bending, ever so slightly.  There are no cracks in the ceiling but there are stress cracks in the wood so he called the builder at home on  Sunday morning, not something we would normally do but hey, what if the roof was falling!!!

I couldn't capture ( yes I snuck over to the house )the bulge which is to the left of the beam. Final word by the builder, we will deal with it on Monday.

We had 3 guys working on the house on Saturday plus another Sunday finishing up the add a room.  Well they think they are finished but I know better.  Will deal with that later, not a major concern right now.

You may or may not have noticed that my online business banner is gone from this website.  Zeek has fallen, well actually they have been shut down. The US Securities & Exchange Commission has frozen the company.  There is much talk about the whys and whatnot, some believe it to be a Ponzi scheme which in the past few days it has proven not to be.  There are all kinds of lawsuits being launched against the USA Government for shutting down Zeek/Rex Venture Group.  It will be an interesting ride to watch all the developments in the months to come. I believe that this company grew too fast and was grossly mismanaged at the end.  Zeek affiliates are likely to get their original input funds back as there is enough money in the company to so.  I have come out of all of this just fine.  I loved doing Zeek and I miss it so much.  It was fun while it lasted.  Personally I believe that the sky has fallen on Zeek although many are holding out for it to be vindicated and get back up running.

Meanwhile, it is time to pick up the pieces and move on.

Today, late afternoon we have friends arriving for a visit.  They will stay in the condos here at Holiday Park for the 2 nights they are here.  We are looking forward to their visit as well as a bunch of 'stuff' happening at the house tomorrow.

Unwanted telephone calls!!

Do you want to put a stop to phone calls from telemarketing companies?

Did you know that the Canadian Government will be making cell phone numbers public this month?  That means you could be charged for calls from telemarketers.

If you want to prevent telemarketing calls to both your home phone and your cell phone, you can register your telephone numbers with the National DO NOT CALL list.  This is good for five years and then you must re register your numbers.

We did this with our home phone two years ago and it made a huge difference in the number of solicitations we received.  I have now added our business line as well as our cell phone.

Thanks Gisele for passing on the information.

Que pasa!

The wildfire was contained at about 10 hectares.  It was a Rank 2 and they had air tankers laying retardant, two helicopters dumping water ( so nice to be living in Lake Country ) and bulldozers on site.  Since the huge fire here in Kelowna nine years ago people move fast when a fire is spotted.

I have a confession.  I love my new house, it is hard to believe that it will one day be finished and ours to live in.  It is gorgeous, many parts that are coming together are even better than we imagined.  Colin & I are both exhausted, we really had no idea that we would have to be on site so much, directing, motivating and just making sure things are being done to our standards.  Plus many very last minute things have come up that require onsite decisions and changes.  We are still aiming for end of August completion with movers booked for September 4th.

This thing will certainly have to be addressed first thing this morning!!!!! Sigh!

Glad I didn't chose to be a dry waller!

This is called getting into your job.

The propane tank goes on the right side of the house as you see it. However this was the only way to get it in, hoisted over the hedge and rolled over the lake side patio and then into place. I had suggested putting it in prior to the house but no one would listen to me.

Big decision time.....Colin says I don't care, it is my house so just do it!

So who cleans up the mess?

Actually who makes these messes?

Colin on his hands and knees using the dry vac.

We had 9 guys of various trades working in the house yesterday and it was a challenge keeping the areas that needed to be clean just that way. The counter top fellas were grinding wood chips into the floor laying guys area. I went over at 9AM and didn't get back to the RV till 2PM for a quick lunch and break.

Today we have the add a room crew, the plumber, the electrician, the window guys, Adriatic Granite again ( touch ups we saw that were needed after they left),  the kitchen backsplash worker and whoever else is scheduled that I might have forgot.

Parking is next to impossible even with direction. Yesterday we had 2 neighbours complain. Hopefully it will soon be over!

Wildfire

Lots to tell you about the house and I will get in a post in later.  Actually too much happening, we can't keep up.  Meanwhile we had 100km/h winds and lightening yesterday and now we are dealing with this, just a mile down the road.  We are in  no danger that I know if but still….

My whip worked!!

Yesterday we had a fellow working on the add a room.

He was putting up drywall where the siding had been. It has to be delivered with siding on it to be legal. I wonder how many times he looked at his watch?

This is how the add a room was left on Friday. Today, yes Sunday morning, there are actually 2 guys here to supposedly finish it.

I sure hope so as the forecast is not looking good. I worry about the 70 km/h winds off the lake that are also part of the storm system and the just done drywalling.

Colin spent hours in the 36C heat yesterday cleaning up all tiny metal filings that have filled every nook & cranny in our yard. A real mess of a mess!! Our patio chairs took hours to clean on their own. They should have done their cutting in the front driveway not my patio.

About 5:30 I went out for a glass of vino and a good read but looks like I fell asleep. We did have a great diner about 8PM and I got 3/4 of the way thru a movie before I fell asleep again.

I plan to keep wielding that new whip of mine today.  It's a race against the weather.  Enjoy your Sunday!
