Front row is full

We had two more arrivals the other day,  both RVers from Ontario who also tested the new Durango Mazatlan highway.

With their arrival the front row, ocean front in RV1 is full. RV 2 is still awaiting the return of several RVers but at this time it still has one ocean front site open.

Did Barrie greet me first or...

...did he greet Caeli first? Not important but lots of hugs going around for certain.

We had a bit of drama just before they arrived. One of the new RVers was digging a deep hole for a pole for his new hammock. He was unaware that he had dug right through the water pipe until the water came gushing out. Fortunately we all had water in our tanks, good rule of thumb and help was soon on the way. The owner of Tres Amigos is great for having repairs done quickly. Within hours we were back to our great water system but it was a very messy job.

I finally started making my smoothies again. Well actually if the truth be told I only have done it the once.

It was the fresh spinach on the veggie truck that got me going.  I’ve asked him to bring it every few days.  Now if I could only find kale and beet tops on the Isla, life would be perfect.  Into this drink I added a banana, oranges, sweet strawberries, pineapple, apple, cilantro and spinach as well as protein powder and water.

It was yummy, not too sweet and not too tart. We both enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

I won't be showing all of our meals but being as I'm on a healthy kick right now, just had to share our dinner with a great mix of quinoa and basmati rice.

Yet another spectacular painting by Mother Nature.

Honored guests for happy hour

Emmy and Leo used to RV here at Tres Amigos RV Park for the winter but they are always on the move and will stay in Lo de Marcos this winter.  They always stop here for a week or two to visit with us all.  This year we managed to snag them for a good visit.

There is never enough time to discuss it all. Here we are going over their trip from Laredo to the Isla via the new highway. I will share those details with you another day. They loved the new road and will use it again for certain. This couple has the distinction of having driven their large 5th wheel on the original Devil's Backbone, which is what the old Mazatalan Durango highway is called.

No my wine is not sour but I guess I made a face just as the camera clicked.

I chose these flowers for my pots this year as they do very well in full sun which is all we have.

At that time I had no idea the relationship between the plants in my garden and my happy hour guests.  In the back of my mind I knew that Emmy and Leo had a nursery.

Here they are way back in 1990. Those are the same plants that I have in my garden.

So for all my Ontario readers you might be interested in checking out Balfour Greenhouses and their products.

My Mexican readers might want to pick up a few of these to brighten up their gardens. I had no idea what these plants were called. I shall enjoy my flowers all the more now that I have such a special connection to them.

The girls seemed rather tired last night, all the walks and the heat are wearing them out.

Special thanks to Colin for my sunset shot tonight.

Working in the garden

Because of the various storms the ocean came right into the RV Park and just sat for weeks.  Eventually the owner had to arrange to have  the wall broken open every so many feet to drain the water.  Meanwhile everything was saturated with salt water.

I started by filling a pail with scoop after scoop of salty soil. I soon realized that it would take me a very long time especially with the heat.

Ishmael with his pick axe made quick work of removing the old soil. He then put the new soil I ordered which is under the blue tarp in place for me. It took him less than an hour to do the entire project.

Then it was my job was to plant my flower seeds.

The seeds germinated after just 2 days and here they are at 6 days.

Meanwhile Ishamel removed all my old half dead plants and planted new palmas and hibiscus for me.

I am so lucky that he is willing to do things for us after his shift or on his day off.  You have seen some of my new blooms over the past few days.

Meanwhile Colin and the girls were doing some digging of their own. So far no crabs.

Another great dinner on our new Weber, veggie smokies.

John, our neighbour got a shot of me shooting the sunset.

Palapa repairs

Last week we had the palapa repaired.  Of course everyone who we had quoted suggested we needed an entire new roof.  We said next year but just now we only want the two holes repaired plus a new layer of palm fronds.  The fellow we hired finally arrived 1.5 days later, not bad by Mexican standards.

First they have to cut the fronds in the plantation and then bring them to our site. One fellow hoists them up to the other and then the patron ties the fronds down.

A job with a view.

They did a very good job for the price quoted and we are happy with the results. Not much space to walk on our roof with 4 solar panels, 3 Fantastic Fans and a pop up vent and the spare tire.

While we were working on this project John, next door, was building his stairs to the beach.

I bargained for some soil from the farm fields as in free with the palapa repair. My garden was desperate for fresh nutrients. They transferred the soil from the truck to a tarp in my front yard. I still need more soil.

Meanwhile out front a fisherman is bringing in his catch.

Most of the restaurants down the beach are having their palapas repaired. It is an ongoing thing. Yes that is hotel here on the Isla, one of two hotels. This one offers a kitchen in some of the rooms.

Things are looking good at our place.

Our palapa roof looks good for another year.
