Only 20 more sleeps until we have to start the engine and head north.
I already know that the girls are going to be so very very sad. How are we going to separate them from running on the beach every day? Suddenly they will sitting in the RV for about 8 hours per day with just a few pee breaks. No more off leash running until we get home April 2nd.

Ahh, but first a glimpse of our shrimp dinner the night prior, sautéed in garlic and butter. I plan to bring 3 kilos/6.5 pounds home with us, maybe more if I can find space in the freezer.
The beach was fairly quiet today. Only a few horse riders.
The restaurant next door had a few tours from Mazatlan for most of the day. Those are shrimp trawlers on the horizon.
There are seldom few people enjoying their front row sites. We love sitting out front.
A new vessel anchoring out front for a few days now. I don’t think that we have ever seen one like this.
Colin on the right out walking the girls. They can be seen on the left, two small dark spots to the right of the thin palapa post. He was out for over three hours today tending to my phone repairs and a few other errands. It was my turn to relax for a bit. The new battery and screen protector cost $33.65CAD/$26.60USD. So happy to have that resolved easily.

Fittingly it was a Carnival ship. Colin wore his KN95 mask all day while in town. He said that the mercado was swamped, two cruise ships in port. We will see how the daily Covid numbers are over the next week. He would not have gone is so soon after Carnaval ended but we needed a working phone.

The fireworks were Saturday night and the first parade was Sunday. Today was the second and somewhat smaller parade traveling in the reverse direction.
But first the night shots of the Monigote at the Plazuela Machado.
I am so fortunate to be able to catch glimpses of Carnaval without going into Mazatlan. I would have loved to have seen this one in person.
So between a Mazatlan Facebook page ( you have to join this one ) https://www.facebook.com/groups/17162261328314 1and seeing others shots posted here and there and catching the parade on TV Sunday night we felt like we saw a great deal. We both agree that the Monigotes are the best we have seen in a long while and the parade was second best. This link should take you to parts of the Sunday parade. There are not many explanations that I have found as to the why of the floats or how they came to be. This series of the parade were taken from our TV.
Some of the floats were very tall. I read somewhere that there were 31 main floats.
Between the floats were various groups of dancers. This was the only group that wore masks and in fact the only masks we saw being worn during the parade. Can you imagine dancing that long parade route wearing a mask. Kudos to them.

This morning I wondered why my phone screen was cracked this morning. Likely due to the expanding battery and the torque on the phone.
My battery was expanding. So eventually I was able to shut the phone down and take out the SIM card.
Lithium iPhone batteries only last so long. Once they get to this size they can explode and can even cause fires. We finally found someone who will replace the battery tomorrow. Most businesses are closed in Mazatlan today due to Carnaval.

Carnaval has started. It is going to be a huge party as it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic. Covid numbers are down at the moment but Sinaloa is still in the yellow zone with green being the best. We personally will not be attending anything. As you know we have done different things over the years. We will be content to listen to the bands from across the water and perhaps see a few fireworks. It was much more fun that last few years fireworks being on a boat and enjoying the magic all around us. We have also attended the Sunday parade at least three times in person and seen others on TV. I think this year the parade is going to be extra special.
Every Carnaval has a theme and many giant monigotes. This years theme is Lanao which roughly means vessel or ship. Here are a few photos that I have ‘stolen’ from the internet. There are a few that were taken at night and the one at the Plazuela Machado is magnificent. I can’t find the night photos that I saw somewhere. I will keep looking. Meanwhile, enjoy.
Both my and Colin’s fathers were Ukrainian. We no longer have any ties but our hearts go out to all Ukrainians both in the midst of this horrific war and others around the world who hearts are breaking.

Colin took this the other day. I was sleeping and Ciela was keeping me company. I didn’t feel anything. They do sleep in their crate at night but they get up around 6:30AM to go to the bathroom. They are then allowed into our bed for a bit more sleep.
Shortly thereafter he caught Carlie doing her morning routine laying in the sunshine.
