No room at the inn!!!

Well we chose not to set the alarm so we were a tad delayed in getting up this morning.

We started the day with wishing Colin's Mom, I call her Mommio because she is so hip, a very very HAPPY 97th BIRTHDAY ! Note the curtain we have across the front, it keeps the heat in or out depending where we are. One day soon we will get our slides out!! The girls are on the heating pad under the pink blanket on the left.

On checking our blog comments we discovered that friends Larry and Marilyn were also overnighting in Yakima, as Larry said, it is a small world.  We were on the road by 9AM.  Stopped at noon for lunch and to check on client emails and make a few calls as it was a Friday.  Got diesel in Ontario, Oregon for 4.089 cash per gallon, the best price we found in this state.  Prices are higher in Idaho.

This place was set up next to Love's where we got fuel. Border Line Catering was not our dinner choice tonight!

The plan was to spend the night in the Wal~Mart in Boise, Idaho via exit 50! Don’t go there.  There is no room for a tear drop trailer never mind us.  No room at the inn for us 🙁

So back to the highway and a further 45 miles along.  However we encountered a construction slow down and so instead of setting up at 5PM we arrived at the wonderful huge and empty new Wal~Mart in Mountain View, Idaho at 6PM.  Finally set up in a balmy 58F!  Today was a huge 401 miles, close to average for us.

No further tire beeps although the one RV tire is down 3 lbs since Tuesday.  We will get it checked before heading into Mexico.  We have had some hot/cold water issues with the shower which Colin resolved.  Bottom line is that the shower head was so corroded on the inside that the water was not mixing so we were either screaming from hot or cold.   As of 10PM tonight that has been resolved.  Milles gracias mi amore.

Ken asked why we chose this route via Pendleton, OR, Idaho to Jackpot, Nevada and south?  Mostly because we have errands in Las Vegas and in Lake Havasu City plus I5 is so very very boring and the road is horrid.  Bad enough we take it home in April.

I leave you with this spectacular sunset, shot thru the RV window barrelling down I84 at 60 MPH. Life is so very great. Night all!

What a day!!!

Almost too exhausted to get this done!  We got up early at 7AM Thursday morning and both went to the chiropractor for an adjustment.  It was very foggy and cold, about 44C.

Meet Bentley, the 4 year old doxie, belongs to Dr G. and his lady! He is quite a character. What a great stretch! Now that is how a chiropractically adjusted dog behaves! Relaxed!!

Then based on last night we ( well I ) made a spontaneous decision….

It took a variety of strategies to stay online last night and was a huge waste of time...

So after our chiro appts we went in search of a wifi stick. We are only in the US for 8 more days or less and the cost is 50.00 per month BUT enough is enough. We got a 2 year contract and will suspend the service every 3 months we are away for 5.00/month. I need my freedom to do my thing!! So I might drag the 2 year contract out to 5 years, no worries. The stick cost 20.00USD!!! But it took an hour to get it sorted out as we needed a US address, finally came up with the idea of our WHR home park! Then it took 90 minutes of trying to get online and 40 minutes of roaming on our cell phone to get it up and running. GRRRRRRR....not my thing. Anyway we are now functional.

Finally about 2:15PM we were ready to leave Wal~Mart!  We had been there over 24 hours, another new record for us.  Most people are ending their travel day and we were just beginning, another first!   We travelled 172 miles to another Walmart in Yakima, Wa.  We haven’t been putting the slides out since we left Kelowna, trying to keep the heat in!  Using the generator and furnace almost constantly.  That means an easy set up.

This Jag passed us on the outskirts of Seattle..do you think that's his name or ???

Once we arrived about 5:30PM in Yakima it was time to start the wine tasting.  Still have to keep up the Wal~Mart shopping.  I am buying for 5 months!

We have way too many bottles open at once but we are sorting out our preferences.

We have about 6 RV’s here tonight but this one is the most unusual.

The sign in the back window reads "I need help getting to New Hampshire". Seems to be a single young woman travelling alone, she must be freezing in there.

Well time to jump into the shower and hit the bed. We aren’t level tonight so we might just slip out of bed:)  Hopefully tomorrow will be our first usual normal travel day!  I just better set the alarm…or not???

99 bottles of…

..whoops….no that is 99 miles we drove today.  That was our maximum which is actually a new minimum.  Colin is already asking if we can go further than I planned for tomorrow.  He likes to drive his bus but I want to be relaxed and go slow right now.

Up at 8AM but again an easing into the day and we finally left at 9:45AM.  Not as cold as Kelowna at 4C but cool enough for me to dig out my angora socks.  We crossed the border at Sumas, a first for us in the RV.  A joke!!

There is a special lane for RV’s but as we were turning wide so we could get into the lane all these wee impatient cars kept passing and cutting us off.  Finally I opened the window and stuck my hand out suggesting they STOP for us and then it was our turn.  The entire process took only 12 minutes but I always wonder why the border agents do what they do.  Like ask for the RV keys and then walk around the RV and hand them back to us?????  He had taken the keys from the car before us and then opened the trunk but that wasn’t happening with us.  I think he was confused that the toad had a different sets of keys.  Maybe he hadn’t had enough coffee yet!  The main question was about how much money we had in USD and Pesos, once he got his head around the fact that we were actually driving to Mexico.  Then at the last minute he asked how much we had in Canadian dollars.  If we had too much what would they do??

Next stop, much needed diesel fuel.  We were almost on empty.  Sticker shock.  We paid $84.00USD more for 75 US gallons of diesel than we did this day one year ago 🙁  Today we paid 4.299 per gallon but saw it as low as 4.23 and as high as 4.39 per gallon.
As we drove on we had to use the wiper blades a few times but no serious drizzle.  Got to the Walmart ,via the back roads, in Marysville, WA, Exit 200 off I5 about 12:45PM.  I made sure Connie to say a hello to your Uncle and also send him a wave as we passed by Bellingham.  For a minute there Colin thought I had taken up talking to myself!  Anyway so a short 99 mile day.
Cool enough to turn on the generator to keep the weiners warm.  Did a bit of reorganizing and then Colin was off in the toad to buy some dog treats ( got them here Libby and dog toothpaste which was probably the only thing not on my list ), to pick up something electronic for the DVD and off to a chiropractic appointment in Everett at 4PM.  The ringing in his ears is much better because of the help Dr. Gross has given him so we decided to deviate from our normal route south so he could see Dr. Gross again.
Meanwhile I walked over to Walmart to buy a selection of fine wines which we will sample tonight and perhaps purchase several bottles for the trip.  I am about to open a 3rd bottle, hey just sampling this stuff……so far.  I still have to do a major shop at Walmart tonight for my US stuff.  Soon the lists will be finished.  I promise.  I must say that the Oak Leaf Pinot Grigio on sale at 20 cents off @ $2.77/750 ml bottle is not too bad.  I just have to image sitting outside ocean side as I drink it, passable.  Sorry there, had to take a break.  Now I am sampling the Vendage Sauvignon Blanc, 1.5 L bottle which won the Pacific Rim International 2010 Gold Medal.  Very nice, crisp and tangy, perfect afternoon sipping and only $5.47 for that size bottle.  Oops, I opened the wrong bottle, meant to try the Turning Leaf Chardonnay as both it and the Oak Leaf Pinot come in a box.   Best not open it just yet!  The nice thing about the Oak Leaf wines is that they are now being bottled in lighter glass, called Eco- Glass, leaving a smaller carbon footprint and  thus keeping the RV weight down.  Smart thinking.  Hope you enjoyed your wine tasting today.

The girls waiting for Dad to come back.....Caeli is laying on a heating pad!

Colin had a good treatment but was unable to get the right dog treats and forgot the toothpaste.  Oh well.  I did get more shopping done tonight and we have about 8 RV’s here now.  Using the Home Depot free wifi which keeps cutting out…..enough!  Buenas noches.

First Day Completed

Finally hooked up and through the gate at 1:15PM!!!  Yes we were on the road!!  Then came the beep, beeep, beepppp, B E E P, BEEP, over and over.  One of the car Pressure Pro Sensors was sending us a message, I need more air.  We did add air and will be watching that tire closely, it may well have a nail in it.

Not 15 minutes out of the service station, Colin calmly informs me that we have a problem as he quickly pulls off the highway to a side road.  You don’t want to know what I thought or said!  He got out and decided everything seemed okay and so we would proceed with caution.  All was just fine.  By 2:15 we are about to turn onto the Connector, 97C, part of the Coquilhalla.

So sad to leave but what an adventure awaits. We really enjoyed the night in the RV on our beach site.

It was cold this morning, -3C when we awoke, the fresh snow on the highway attests to that. We are so fortunate that the weather was sunny today.

It really was a lovely warm autumn day, about 11C when we left.  We took our time this morning, relaxed, eased into the day, did the final preps and went for a walk, said goodbye to friends and neighbors before we left.  By the time we were in the mountains all the kinks were worked through and we were ecstatic to be on the road.  The road to where you ask.  Why were we not headed south but west?  You shall have to stay tuned for the answer.

The fall colours and the fresh snow made for spellbinding scenery!

Four and one half hours later and 194 miles further west we stopped in Chilliwack.  We are in the old Walmart lot which is in the process of renovation so this will likely be our last free night here.  Too bad because we can pick up a faint free wifi signal from Safeway.

Gorgeous sunset! Marvellous dinner, great vino blanco! Mucho frio, down to 2C tonight. I just could not live without the generator nor the girls without a heating pad.

Only thing left on my to do list is to hop into the shower and dive under my down duvet!  Buenas noches!

Tomorrow will be a new city and another country.  Be sure to check back!

POSTED AT 9:00PM, TUESDAY, OCT. 25TH.
