Trip to the vet!

For almost a week Carmeh has been suffering from severe diarrhea.  Fortunately there was no blood involved ( she has a long & expensive history of G.I. problems ) so we thought it would pass quickly.  It has not and we finally put her on antibiotics.  With no improvement after a few days we called our vet in Canada and tried a few other things but she was not getting better.  Finally yesterday, Saturday, Colin took her into a vet in Mazatlan.

Peggy and her dog Roo went also as Roo had a swollen mouth.

Peggy & Roo sat in the back of the pulmonia leaving Colin & Carmeh in front. It was a big deal as Roo had not travelled via water taxi nor pulmonia before.

The name of the place is LA JUNGLA. Dr. Rafael Aguilar de Santiago speaks English and came highly recommended. The clinic is spotless. Tel 669 981-61-97, located near the old Leys' Plaza @ the corner of Privada Internacional No. 1 & Esq. Ejercito Mexicano.

Dr. Rafael quickly found Roo's problem and gave her a shot. She is feeling much better today.

The Dr. wasn't not sure why Carmeh was ill but assured us it would get better. We were already doing the right thing plus he added more meds. Plus I had to make a bland diet for her of rice & chicken. She loves it, me not so much fun cooking the chicken!

Looked like everyone was happy to be heading home to the Isla. I don't think that the driver was too certain about having a large dog behind him!

Colin was suprised to find two parrotes just like our Cheikka in the office. We will have to check if they are for sale.

It was quite a day for us all. Definitely a night for comfort food and vino!!

Unfortunately we noticed this morning that Carmeh's left eye and cheek were swollen. She had likely been bitten by a spider in bed. More drugs! Enough already. As of this afternoon she is doing much better from the bite but still suffering from the 'other' !! Time heals all!

The trip, the road & the paint!

You know how much we love ‘the road’.  Well after the rain a few weeks ago it has turned horrid again plus the trees are aleady overgrown.  We may never be able to leave.  Took us 45 minutes by car to do the 8.5 miles to Estrella & then we zoomed along.

First stop was for paint for the palapa cement posts.  Like any normal paint store there are hundreds of color swatches to chose from.  We made our choice and then the fun began.

There is no standard formula, in fact no formula at all. It's all guess work. The mixing is done with a huge wooden paddle.

We had chosen a burgundy and the fellow started with red, followed by hot pink. Already I knew we had made a big mistake. We should have chosen a plain beige color!

No really sir that is not the colour we chose. More red, more pink, Colin tried to suggest black to darken the hue. He said he NEVER added black to paint for colour. After 8 attempts at adding this and that we were all stumped.

After an hour he agreed to try adding some grey paint. See how he uses his finger to stop the flow of paint! Totally unique.

After the paint was re mixed ( re paddled ) he would put a dab on a piece of paper and use a hair blower to dry the sample.  By now we were getting hot, tired and I was irritated.  Okay good enough.  380 pesos later!  Lots of money in my opinion.

Next stop Sorianna! But there was the detour to deal with, Colin figured he would have no trouble getting there via the back roads. Finally I asked the local policia for directions.

Initially they just gave us the directions, turn , turn, turn and double back and turn again, bueno, no problema I said.  Not two minutes later they pass us and lead us to the store.  Honestly, the detour would have been quicker but I was not driving.  Got a ton of groceries as I don’t plan on doing the road again till we leave in April.  Any other groceries will be done via panga.

Next stop, the vivero, the nursery, my very favourite stop in all of Mexico.

Not bad, 2 hibiscus @ 30 pesos each ( $2.24 CAD) and a 5 foot palm for 60 pesos. Time to go home via 'the road'.

Final stop for gas for the car. We were almost on empty due to all our running around on the Isla. No fuel or ATM on the Isla. Parked beside us also getting fuel was this loaded down truck full of newspaper wrapped papayas headed for the market. Colin asked to buy one but the fellow refused payment and gifted us one. We weighed it in @ 4.5 lb.

We survived the road home but it was wine time.  While Colin unloaded and I put the groceries away with vino in hand,  Pablo planted our flora.  That is it, I am done, no more, no mas, nada.  Enough plants this year.  Good thing 2012 isn’t too far off!!  We had an easy dinner that night.

Yesterday Colin asked if I wanted to start painting.  Sure thing!

The first of 5 poles. Colin insisted I wear an old shirt of his just in case!

Colin had to do the higher up stuff. We did protect the RV with plastic sheets which was good as we ( well me ) did get a few specs on the plastic.

Kinda pink, eh! Well it has dried to a lovely Mexican rose color and we just love it, could not be more perfect.

So glad we did that yesterday as today has been a bit windy and overcast.  Good day for cleaning inside the RV.   Still tolerable at 80F!  Que pasa manana, well you will just have to check in!  Time to start happy hour a few hours early!

Que Pasa a Tres Amigos RV Park

Wow Dec. 1, where did that come from?  Believe me, living on a beach in paradise, it is really tough to get in the Christmas Spirit!  We tend to be more involved in things like shell collecting.

Life is the same here day after day, sun, waves, 29C, beach walking and people watching.  For excitement we tend to check the weather forcasts north of the Mexican border.

We never ever get tired of the sunset as it is always uniquely different night after night.

Colin finally got around to setting up our motion light system. We are likely the only ones to ever set it off.

Towards the end of Nov. I had a happy hour for RV1. As always a great time was had by all. Bella, see the tiny burgundy lanterns hanging from the top of the palapa, they are yours from last season...I recycled them and painted them to match our decor!

There is a big change in RV1 this season.  One couple has moved to the Isla permanently, another has given up RVing and purchased a condo in Mazatlan to live in six months of the year, yet another lady is on the lookout to buy the perfect condo in Mazatlan.  Three couples have chosen not to return this season but perhaps the next. However we already have two new couples enjoying Tres Amigos, RV1.  They love it here!!!

The night of our happy hour we were treated to a lovely waxing crescent moon and Venus!

We ventured into Mazatlan by vehicle on the 28th, a small adventure, to be told tomorrow.  Buenas noches!

Palapa #2 !

Well actually it is an addition.  Can you believe it, we are already into renovations!

We love our palapa but we still have full sun coming into the RV front window.

So we built a mini palapa to create shade. Felipe called it a sombrita palapa.

Don't get too close Caeli...

...we all love the beach!

...and so our second palapa was completed! While we were walking on the beach the fellows trimmed the palm fronds right back to the top edge of the palapa thus decreasing our much needed shade. They thought we preferred it all trimmed and tidy! So Colin came up with the idea of inserting some extra palm branches here and there. Notice who is down below just watching! Good old Pedro! Anyway we were able to decrease the inside temperatures by 8 degrees and have been able to remove the window screen giving us an even better view. Completed photos soon.

It is real tough…

…to get back to blogging.  Because of the internet being down and not doing a real post since Nov. 24th, my mind has become lazy!!  Not good.  Today I kept procrastinating, doing things like banking, bill paying, cleaning, organizing massages for tomorrow,  anything to avoid posting.  So here goes, best I can do for today.

Caeli had no choice but to be bathed after rolling in something on the beach.

Finally got around to doing some long overdue hand laundry.

We seem to spend a lot of time just watching this group come and go.

...and a great deal of time watching a big ball of fire sink into the ocean each day.

After just a day we got our first oriole visitor.

That was shot through the RV window hence the white reflections.  Some of my seeds have sprouted after only two days.  Life is good.  That exhausted me, time for vino blanco.  For sure I should be back to normal manana:)
