Tempting fate….

…I could say that yesterday, July 1st was a perfect day….but that would be tempting fate.  It was in truth a glorious day….a gift from God!  We did not get the rain nor thundershowers forecast but heat and sun and the sheer beauty of nature.  For me…I honestly have to say that it was the very very best day we have had since returning home from Mexico.

We started with a long walk….saw the floats gathering for the parade…went home, got the golf cart and drove up to the paradre route and sat in comfort to watch the event ….

We even had a Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman in the parade!

Lots of imagination went into the decorating. Kelowna itself had many major events and fireworks but we were content to stay close to home.

We did not attend any of the other events but could hear the music.  We did get a few chores done and then just sopped up the sun.

What could be better than a BBQ dinner, veggie smokies, potato, onion & zucchini! I only had to add a caesar salad to complete the meal. Yummy and easy.

….and them it happened, something even more glorious.  Full moon is tomorrow but last night we got to watch the moon rise over some clouds colored by the setting sun.

Really...does it get any better!!! I went to bed a very happy lady! What a great Canada Day! It doesn't take much to please me...just some sun, heat, and wine!

HAPPY CANADA DAY

Canada is celebrating it's birthday today.  On July 1, 1867, Canada became a self-governing dominion of Great Britain.  Today Canadians of all ages celebrate their heritage. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday celebration.  I did a post about the history of the Canadian flag last year if you are are interested.  Here at Holiday Park there will be a number of celebrations.

I just love this graphic with the palm trees……totally works for me!!

Working hard at relaxing!!

Lots of loving going on in our house!!

Some very special neighbors made us dinner last night and we enjoyed it lakeside.

We couldn't quite sit on the slate patio as it was' curing ' from the crack cement guys efforts of the day.  In my books it was a special meal as it was delivered and all I had to do was sit, back, relax and enjoy Karen & Lyle's gourmet culinary feast.  You are welcome here anytime!  Mille gracias!

Yesterdays heat and high of 28C are long gone and we are anticipating thundershowers tonight and are sitting at 19C.  Very unB.C. like weather for this long weekend.

Critter rescues!!

Now that my indoor mushroom business seems to be shut down I thought we would move on to an animal rescue business.  It seems that the high lake has confused the turtles.  I think it's because they no longer have a shore line but instead are coming up onto lawns much higher up that they are use to and seem to be crawling around the park.

This fairly large turtle was seen crawling from here across the road to our old house.

Caeli was sitting on the dash of the RV as dachshunds tend to do, looking out the window, when her barking alerted me to the crawling critter.  She was telling me that something was not normal in her view of the world.  Good girl!!  This was my second turtle encounter in a week. I got my neighbor who had also rescued a few turtles this week to come over.

This is my neighbour carefully picking up our rescue turtle....as soon as she did the turtle started emitting huge amounts of water, much like a kitchen faucet turned on full blast. I had no idea they did that. Bobbie told me that in the dessert if you touch a turtle with your finger it will start releasing water and likely die due to dehydration.

Splash....back into the lake....no danger of dying today either from a car running over you or from dehydration. Happy to be of service Mr. Turtle.

The next morning it was time to rescue a baby blackbird, also sitting in the middle of the road. Mamma was hovering overhead and trying to dive bomb us. Perhaps baby had tired to fly and couldn't manage or perhaps it had just fallen out of the nest.

Carmeh, who use to sit side by side with our parrot Cheikka was so excited to have a bird friend. The baby wasn't frightened and allowed itself to be herded off the into the bushes.

Then I can to deal with Contessa Critter.  The past few days have been over active and I almost had a melt down…..finally got to bed about 9PM last night after a 2 hour nap…..really tired….!  Much better today, just way too much running around for the house.  Fortunately that area of our life is coming together.  Now as to the crack cement guy…..well he may not be long for this world.  Things are getting nasty in that area of our life.  Enjoy your Friday!

Que pasa…..

…I always seem to have something to post about but just not enough time.

The weather has been totally unseasonal but Colin and Mission Hill Winery got lucky last Sunday evening.  Chris Botti, an American contemporary jazz trumpeter had been sold out for weeks.  If you ever come to Kelowna you really have to visit this winery, it is sensational.  Remember the Bugatti car and Nathalie Decoster sculptures last September?  You can check that event out here.

The skies cleared at the last minute for a huge outdoor event and then the rain continued till today. The cement guy is back along with the sun so lets hope it goes done finally.

I don't have her name but this singer use to sing with the Rolling Stones!

A lovely evening was had by all. The next event features Lyle Lovett.

Can you imagine sitting here on my window seat looking out at the lake? The house is coming along quickly.

Don from Deep Clean Carpet Care worked really hard to get out fungus out of the carpet....now we just keep a fan on it to dry it all up. Great guy, he only charged us $20.00!

Just checked out the cement guy….no go.  They created a problem with our slate patio and now have to figure out how to get the white off.  They have taken a 24 X 24 slab back to the shop to do some tests…..hmmmm…..good thing I held back that $5,000.00!  More house meetings this afternoon and then I am going to enjoy the sun for a bit.  Three more days of showers in the forecast.
