I was ATTACKED

This ugly little wasp got me....

Right in the ear!!

I was in the conversation pool doing my exercises when I felt something in my left ear.  I put my finger in and out came a wasp.  Then a small pain began and quickly became more intense.  I stuck my finger in again and out came the stinger.  Yuck!

It was evident that I had to do something quick as my ear was hotter than heck and throbbing.  So my friend and I jumped into the golf cart and back home we came.  Should I put my ear into the freezer, how could I fit an ice cube into my ear.  Finally I found a hydrocortisone anti-itch creme.  I applied that frequently and along with mucho ice cold vino blanco I managed to get through the night.

I am taking a break from pool therapy today.  It is close to 98F with the humidity today so I am staying put!

Poor me…….

It was a steady weekend…

…although I did take a few hours on Sunday morning for just myself and my book. No interruptions.  Saturday was a day to cross things off the to do list.

One project was to hide these unsightly cords. Our blinds go right to the floor but when we open them you can see the mess along the bottom.

Colin came up with the idea of these removable screens. Our drapery people gave us the fabric at no charge (mostly because we had given them so much business as in $$$ ) and we found a seamstress to custom sew what we wanted for $95.00. The biggest cost was the telescoping adjustable rods which we picked up for $20.00 each. We have covered 3 window bottoms this way and now from the outside all looks neat and tidy. Only we know the secret.

We also cleaned this place from top to bottom. Colin was happy that for the first time in a very long while I helped by dusting.  That wore me out but I did manage to get my walk in as well as do my pool exercises.  We than had our neighbors over for dinner.  They live and work in Calgary so we don’t see them too often.

Colin is already a master photographer and is now working at perfecting the BBQ. The wild sockeye salmon could not have been any better.

Lyle and Karen were too busy sampling the meal to smile for the camera. We all agreed that it was the best meal ever. We look forward to them constructing a home on the lake right next door within the next few years. Sadly they left for Calgary early Sunday morning.

So Sunday Colin did photoshop all day while I relaxed and read.  Later in the afternoon we did laundry.  He did the bending and lifting for me.

Then I invented a new left over dinner. I made a huge caesar salad, added cut up cherry tomatoes & sweet Walla Walla onions and then the left over salmon. Yet another perfect meal.

Today, Monday, was a business day for me at my desk while Colin took a break from his computer and worked in the  motorhome.  We are still catching up from when we arrived end of April when our life sort of went out of control.  He was doing general cleaning and sorting.  We still have to arrange to have the carpets cleaned and then I can start loading it up.

I guess this is a new lake sport. Personally I would rather float along the water on a kayak.

It has been very hot and muggy here over the past few days.  I just have enough energy to head to the pool for more exercises.  Talk to you tomorrow.

Some progress

Somehow time ran away from me yesterday and I never posted my blog.  Colin took me grocery shopping in the afternoon.  It was nice to be able to hobble ( I used my crutches ) around and make choices as to what I wanted.  Sadly I realized I am a long way away from going out on my own. I can’t push a cart, unload a cart nor carry the groceries nor drive nor unload the groceries.  I can only put away things that are waist high.  Hopefully in another month.

I finally started pool therapy on Thursday with the hopes of increasing my mobility after hip surgery sooner than later.  Here at Holiday Park we have 4 pools.

This one is called the conversation pool as it is circular, has a bench to sit on all around, is slightly heated. Usually it is empty about 5PM and I have it to myself.

Even in the water I was having some twinges of pain. I think I will start out just every other day.

This is all that remains of my beautiful ceramic quail that I had picked up a few years ago at the mercado in Mazatlan. I was standing on the porch when a wasp tried to land on me and I lifted my hand to swat it away. Sadly I never let go of the crutch so it moved with my hand and the tip knocked over my quail. I loved the greens in it. Hopefully I will find something similar this winter.

We often just take baths and the occasional shower but do want the option of a full stand up shower so we arranged for this fellow and his wife to install a clear door on one edge of the corner tub.

He was the one who created our stained glass window so he knows how important it is to me to not block it. So far so good. I will try it today after my pool therapy. Maybe I can get rid of the special bath seat I have had to use since surgery. The door swings all the way to the right so you can still have a long soak in the tub.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend wherever you are.

Notes from my inbox

With regard to the Shaw Direct turning off their satellite service to the USA and to Mexico.  This was a reply to a friend and fellow bloggers’ post.

This comment was made just yesterday on July 31/13. This does not look very promising at all. That is exactly what I was told on the telephone by a Shaw representative. "If your service works, lucky you but we will not help fix any problems".

On a much brighter note, longtime reader Gisela sent me this link.  I very seldom do this but this is so very amazing that it is worth you checking this out even for just 30 seconds.  Perhaps because I have always had such a love of the beach and moving water this means so much.  But who knew what that beach, that sand was actually made of.  The web link shows you grains of sand magnified 240 times.  Once you open the site you only need scroll down and realize that you will never view a sandy beach the same again.  At the very end is a 1.5 minute video well worth your time.

Can you believe that this is sand?

This also came into my mail box today.  Once Colin takes a photo the job is not over.  Can you see all the differences?

Before

After....so when you do a job and take hundreds of shots you can imagine the computer time involved.

Welcome to August first and the first post from my inbox.  I never know what I am going to blog about.  It just happens.

Now that my wound is healed I am ready for the next step in my rehab.  Sadly our forecast has changed.

I think that it might be too cool to start my pool therapy!!

The last days of July

Lucky ducks out there enjoying Duck Lake.

We wondered what this was all about at the time. Turns out that this fellow was ditching his old dock from his property across the lake onto our golf course beach. Hey we caught him in the act. Well I actually read about a deserted dock that had 'washed up' on our beach in the monthly minutes so I let management know the real story.

Out for my daily walk.

...where I happened upon this peach tree growing in a flower bed.

Had some young geese drop by for lunch on our lawn. Can you see Caeli on the bottom right giving them a royal send off. They still managed to leave a few callings cards before she scared them off.

34C and our neighbor has a blow torch on his roof. Can't be helped when you are getting a new roof but I kept my eye out. There have been too many wildfires started around here this week.

LeAnn Rimes did not keep these shoes on for long. After threes songs she was barefoot.

...and much more relaxed. Colin says it was a great concert.

Colin caught the moon last week in full bloom.
