Horses and turtles on the beach

As we walked down the beach the other day for our morning walk, we were approached by the horses.

They walked right around us. The girls remained silent.

I really have never been this close to horses.

This one did not want to leave me. As you can see the others have gone ahead long ago.

Shortly after the horses had passed we saw tracks in the sand.

Then with the help of the horseman, we found a turtle nest. They had all hatched and were gone.

Further down the beach, we found more turtle tracks. Those are the ones on the right, the middle tracks are crabs and the ones on the left are mixed.. As it turns out, 5 nests had hatched that night/day.

Several of the RVers had gone golfing early that morning and came across the turtles crossing from the berm all across the sand to the water.  The fellows stopped and helped some of the turtles into the water,  I understand that Robin actually put some into his Jeep and drove them down the beach aways, closer to the water as they were going in the wrong direction, up into the grasses.  He was saving them from the frigate birds.  Thankfully he rescued several turtles.  Colin and I came along about an hour and a bit later.

We saw two baby turtles, stragglers, close to the shore….struggling in the increasing heat due to the rising sun.

The first one was able to slip into the water but this little one was struggling.

We waited and watched but it seemed to be losing energy. Our dogs were so good and kept their distance with only a word from us. We have been a part of many turtle releases while in Acapulco in years past and so it seemed natural for Colin to pick this little one up and place it in the ocean.

Carmeh quietly watched the beginning of its journey. See how her paw is up in the air. I was amazed at how gentle she was. The girls do hunt crabs but did respect the turtle.

Adios little one. May we see you here on the Isla beach in the years to come when yo return to lay your eggs.

The 5C's bid you adieu and good luck.

A warm adieu to our horses as well.

Does not all of the above make a day beyond perfect?  Be honest!  Of course it does.  But then last night, we experienced perfection!!!!!!!!!

International Bloggers Conference

For a few days this week we had 3 Canadian bloggers and 3 American bloggers on the Isla.  What to do but create an International Bloggers Conference!  We came together yesterday to watch the sunset and enjoy a buffet.

Bloggers from left to right, Maria ( from Northern Alberta ), myself ( from Kelowna ), Lynne ( from Chicago ), Suzanne ( from Texas but really a nomad in her RV ), Roger the blogger and his wife Susie ( from Vancouver Island ) and Evelyn ( from Manitou Springs, Colorado ). Colin took photos all evening, mille gracias!

We certainly never ran out of conversation.

Just so you know, we did speak of things other than blogs.

The first International Blogger Conference on Isla de la Piedra

From left to right………….

Roger’s blog can be found here.  He has a unique writing style and likes to keep us up to date with the happenings of the RVers.

Lynne’s blog can be found here.  She is recently retired and this is her first trip to Mexico.  She will have some great stories to share with us all.

Evelyn’s blog can be found here.  This is her 3rd trip by RV Mexico.  She has left her husband Steve at home working while she guides Lynne through Mexico.

Maria’s blog can be found here.  She first came to the Isla back in 2000 when she fell in love with the island.  She is not an RVer and lives within the Mexican community on the Isla.  She has a unique way of telling a story.  Be sure to check out her blog as well as the others.

Suzanne’s blog can be found here.  She is living a life of adventure from Antarctica to Iran.  Be sure to check out her What’s next, you ask? column at the top of her blog.

Just after the sun set Roger and Susie had to leave to join friends for a pre planned event and you can read about that on his blog 🙂

Meanwhile the rest of us enjoyed a burrito bar buffet. It was delicious if I say so myself.

More conversation around the fire pit.

It was a fun evening and hopefully we will get to do it again one day.  Just to clarify, this was only for bloggers on the Isla.  There are at least 3 others that I know of in Mazatlan.  A great source for all things Mazatlan can be found on Nancy’s blog Countdown to Mexico.  Check out the links at the top of her blog.

Sun, relaxation and sunsets

The past few days have just been spectacular.  The weather is hot and sunny.  It could not be more perfect.

We had a new visitor arrive on Thursday. Another first timer to the Isla. Suzanne is a full time RVer.

She is a friend of Lynne’s and also has a Winnie as Lynne and Evelyn do.  However she left her RV in Texas and bused down here for a few days.  More on that tomorrow.  We enjoyed an impromptu happy hour and then watched the sunset.

One of the nicest yet but then I say that at least once per week.

This was taken just a few moments later.

The colors soon changed to a deep pink red and soon we were surrounded by a 360 degree colored sky.

With his camera, Colin took four shots to create this panoramic photo. Again the colors were deepening.

Yesterday I just sat in the sun and read. Yes there was a glass of vino blanco with me but it was on the ground out of the sun. You know it's hot if I'm wearing a hat.

Another different sunset last evening.

Words aren't enough to describe it.

More holiday photos to share!!

I forgot all about this one…mostly because it was in Colin’s camera, not mine.  RV1 had both parks over for a bonfire December 23rd and lots of carolling.  We had a great time.

Great shot Colin!

Some of us really got into the music 🙂

December 24th was cloudy and we had a few showers.  Colin and I spent the majority of the day inside cooking.  There are a few favorite recipes that we like to cook only at Christmas.  We had decided to make Christmas Eve our personal Christmas celebration.

I can't remember who took this photo of us Christmas Eve.

Another great meal with lots of leftovers.

Our RV is all cozy inside.

I think it was too comfortable. Shortly after eating I had a nap, just laying there with the lights and the Christmas music playing. Carmeh joined me as you can see.

Looks like Santa even visited and I missed it until the next day.

We always start Christmas Day with a beach walk ( and for the first time in a long while I was able to stick with our tradition ).  We spent the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying all the activity on the beach.

At one point in the morning we opened Santa's unexpected ( to me ) gifts. The best part was Carmeh having such a good time ripping the wrapping paper off. Caeli just was not interested.

The hotels in Mazatlan are near full for the holidays plus there was a cruise ship in port.

Most years RV1 and RV2 have joined together for a Christmas Day meal but this year for a variety of reasons we each organized our own dinners.  RV1 has many more people this year what with many visitors having flown in to spend some vacation time on the beach with their families already here.

This was our table. What better place to eat a special meal but on the edge of the ocean on the Isla?

Good friends......

......and gourmet food from turkey with all the trimmings to shrimp and lots of salads, veggies and extra special desserts.

A happy group indeed.

Non of us had the desire to join the cruise ship as it sailed away.

There was no way we were going to sleep, not with our second Christmas dinner in as many days so we and several friends sat out front in the warm breeze and enjoyed our fire pit.  We were too mellow to take any photos.  It certainly was a Christmas to remember.

This photo is for you Dad….

I was honoring my Mum's memory by wearing this skirt I had found in her closet, the bracelets and earrings were hers also. She was a part of my Christmas.

So busy and no time to share

We have had a fabulous last few days and there are so many photos to share that will have to do it bit by bit starting with December 23rd.

The day stared with a visit from Santa's reindeer.

Then one of the two mother/foal teams currently roaming the beach made an appearance with the owner. He decided to lead them into the ocean for a bath. The baby just followed its mamma.

If you look closely you will see a barge with what looks to be a semi truck on it, just to the right of the shrimp boat or to the left of the sail boat coming into port.

Not ten minutes later Santa made an appearance on the beach and then came down our lane. All the children were clamoring for candies. Don't you love how an ATV pulls the sleigh. This is all done by local Isla residents.

Colin and I just had to get to the mercado in Mazatlan for some food supplies for Christmas dinner. This is a new sign.......please wear a life jacket while crossing in the panga.

Dec. 23rd and we had traffic jams. I'm sure it would be worse in the 24th. It actually was. I later read that they had to close down 2 main streets in Centro due to the amount of traffic.

Doesn't this place look enticing? The slow traffic allowed me this shot. The sign says rooms for rent with hot water. Love the colors.

When we finally got to the mercardo it was packed but we quickly found what we needed. I could spend hours just wandering around.

Later in the afternoon with our bags full of goodies we walked over to the Plazuela Machado to meet Evelyn and Lynne for an early dinner.

We shared a pulmonia back to the embarcadero. We had to walk several blocks to find an empty one. So glad that they are busy and making some pesos.

Just another regular sunset on the Isla.

...and so ended Dec 23rd!
