Trying to live life…..

…to the fullest 😎   That can mean less time for blogging among other things.

For those following our 2017 calendar, here is the shot for March, of course taken last season here on the Isla.

Last Sunday afternoon I had a blog reader, Colin, drop in for a wee visit.  He and his wife, ?Sandra, were here for two nights as they headed back to Alberta.  Colin has only been traveling to Mexico for a few years and had a lot of questions.  Hopefully we will see them here yet again.

The next morning the girls were enjoying the warming sun coming in onto the dash.

Our sunsets have been just lovely but we were treated to an outstanding one last Monday.

Tuesday afternoon I was surprised by yet another blog reader dropping by.  This is Carl from Calgary, Alberta who was only here at Tres Amigos for a few nights.  As you can see we had a lot to talk about.

We also had a visit from our RV tech Eric that day. We had requested covers for the arms of our driving chairs as they have become a tad worn over the years.

They fit perfectly, like a glove. Much better than I had imagined.

Another wonderful sunset that night.

We have a new cruise ship in port this week from Monday to Thursday.  This is the Carnival heading out.

We were in town today, amid the many ship passengers and came upon this wee guy.

He just happened to be hanging around one of the pastry tables in the mercado and was most intent on stealing pieces of this treat left on the table.  Very cute indeed.

Late in the afternoon Carl and Sherry came by for a glass of wine and much chit chat.  I took my fleece sweater off for this photo, it really has been cool the last few days.  I have to day that this has been our coolest winter in our eight years here.

They retired at 50, eight years ago and have been RVing for 4 years now, the last two on the Baja and this winter here on the West Coast.  They are movers and shakers and like to check everything out.  We enjoyed discussing many travel destinations including their recent travels within Mexico these past weeks.  Thanks to Sandy and Rex, longtime blog readers ( looks like we didn’t connect this winter ), for sending them our way.  Be sure to check out their blog, yes they both work on it, called Sherry’s Travel Blog.

Our gift this evening from Mother Nature.

Contrasts

Last night the humidity was 90% and the breeze was so cool that I was wearing fleece.  It also rained overnight.  Now, almost 24 hours later it is 35% humidity and 81F at 7:40PM.  First time we have ever seen such a contrast over a 24 hour period.

Hard to believe this was the temperature at 6PM.  This morning it was so cool that I had a sweater on inside.  The photo above shows 10% humidity but we are on the ocean and have 35% which is the lowest I have ever seen.

We just noticed these trees yesterday. Suddenly in a sea of green there are bursts of gold.  Stunning.

A colorful oriole working hard to get into the hummingbird feeder.

I was sitting outside in what felt like a blast furnace trying to cool down when this lovely sunset appeared.

We are so fortunate to be here on the Isla.

Just as the sun set the neighbors west of the RV park had a bonfire.  They had invited some of the local Isla talent, an African band who also did some stunning fire dances.

Definitely all wonderful contrasts which made it a great day.

Que pasa

The last 24 hours have been non stop action.

It started yesterday with a happy hour at RV2 hosted by Tris and Merle in honor of her sister and four cousins visiting the Isla for the first time.

There was quite a crowd and again it bears repeating that a good time was had by all.

Lovely sunset from a different vantage point.

This morning there was some fog on our early morning beach walk.  Soon there was mucho fog and we could barely see 12 inches in front of us,  quite the experience.  For a moment or two we thought we might have been in Oregon.

Once back home we noticed how much Carmeh was licking one of  her front paws….also to a lesser extent a back paw.

So we are doing Epsom salt baths and I did send a photo to our Mexican vet and he suggested getting YODO NEGRO TINTURA (BLACK IODINE)  and applying it once per day till it breaks.  We are off to the farmacia yet again tomorrow.

Earlier this afternoon we were involved with some drone flying around the RV parks.

This is what a very serious drone hired to take some promo photos for Tres Amigos RV Park looks like.

Always something fun happening around here.

I was given 5 minutes notice to do a voice promo for the video…….barely enough time to comb my hair but not enough to change out of my “Isla uniform”.   I can’t tell you what I said, only what I should have added but both Colin and King David said that I did a fabulous job.  They thought that I spoke from my heart which is natural when I talk about the Isla.

My very special amiga, Suzanne, who recently spent a week here on the Isla published part 1 of  her posts about her time here.  She is a great writer and an even better photographer or is it the other way around?  Please read her post about Life on the Isla by clicking here.  Gosh when I read it I wanted to come here 😀   Well you will know what I mean when you read it 😆

Carmeh has not had a great day. Can you see her two pink stockings bound with masking tape so that she can’t do any more licking?

She is doing very well and her pancreatitis seems under control. However she is getting a lot of supplements, etc.  The tubes are cremes for a skin infection plus she is now also getting Epsom salt baths.

With the chicken diet we need to give her some extras such as egg shells in the gold shot glass plus a variety of liver support meds including milk thistle.  We are planning to start adding steamed minced fresh green beans tomorrow.  Meal time is not a  quick process as you can see.

Meanwhile back at home the weather is not improving, in fact it is one of the worst winters on record.

For that we reason we have decided to stay here for an additional two weeks and then make a beeline run for Canada.  We will still get home at the same time but instead of touring around the USA we will stay here where we are all happy and can keep enjoying the beach.  Our intention is to keep living life to the fullest each day.

Now don’t you think that that was a full 24 hour day?  Well actually it was 28 hours from when the happy hour started yesterday until I completed this post tonight.

Out and about

There is so much to see here in Mexico.  Next to India where we found that each time we turned around we saw something even more amazing than before, I have to say the Mexico has it all.  Without even trying, here are some photos that just put themselves in front of my camera.

First time we have ever seen a pulmonia being towed.

Somehow I don’t think that the driver is going to be pleased when he finds that his muffler has been ripped off in the process.

I surmise this to be some sort of flower or fruit hanging down from this tree.  It was at least three feet in length.

A walk down the path outside of the botanical gardens directly behind Tres Amigos RV Park.

A tuna boat coming back into port. From the birds I would say that they have a full catch.

New palmas being placed on the restaurant roof next door to the RV Park.  These are a special small fan shaped palm that are brought in from another state.  This type of roof lasts many many years as as opposed to the traditional palm fronds that we used on our palapa but they are quite expensive.  Our roof should be good for 5 plus years depending on any passing hurricanes.  Good enough for us.

If I had more space in my garden I would love to have a wall of this colorful vine. I have no idea what it is called.

A very large jelly fish, about twice the size a dinner plate floating along the edge of the shipping channel.

This one was a tad smaller, moving along the rocks. We had seen an extremely large one washed up on our beach last week but I did not have the camera with me.  We very seldom have any jelly fish, even the very small ones on the beach here.

Red paper tree.

It really does look and feel like paper.

Another busy day at the port.  The freighter and cruise ship are docked while the shrimper is heading out to open waters.  The fishing boat is just coming into port.

As I mentioned, so much to see at every turn.  Life is never boring here on the Isla and in Mazatlan.

We cheated

We have attended the Mazatlan Carnival parade in person a few times.  The event is full of life and much energy however much fortitude is required as it seems to go on and on and much standing is involved.  We chose not to attend this year but then discovered that we could watch the parade in all its glory, color and detail on television.  We installed a HD Digital TV antenna on the RV roof this past fall and can tune into local stations.  One of the Mazatlan stations, TVP, which is on channel 20.1, showed the entire parade live along with commentary.  So we cheated and watched it all in the comfort of our home on the Isla.  It was fabulous, as we knew who was on each float and were able to see so much more detail than in person due to the close ups of the TV cameras.

The theme of Carnaval this year was De Alebrijes y Dragones ( Of Alebrijes and Dragons )

These photos were taken from the TV last Sunday night.

An Alebrije is a colorful Mexican folk art sculpture depicting a mythical being that is made up of parts of different animals such us wolf teeth, dog or cat eyes, bat wings, serpent bodies, pretty much anything that the designers can come up with.  ( taken from the internet )

We loved the detail we could see on the TV.

The floats were amazing.

Such creativity and color and imagination.

We last saw the parade in 2014 and took many photos.  This is the link to Part 2 of a three part post.  You can click on the link and go ahead and behind to see some great floats with yet another theme.

Tonight ends the sixth day of Carnaval celebrations.  2017 was a great year.
