It was the craziest Sunday to date

Back from our morning beach walk. Usually the girls use the ramp but today certain iguana scents were distracting them.  What is that green thing growing in the sand? More about that later.

I really like the changes I made to the south side of my front garden. The colors make it pop.

Carmeh is back on the hunt.

She wants to get out of the yard by jumping. No more. Twice was too much so we have penned her in with more of a barricade.

Colin was leaving at noon for a four day trip to Culiacan and some serious guitar music.  Carmeh of course was not making it easy for him to pack.

She truly wanted out so that she could find that iguana. As you can see we had to reinforce the fencing so that she could not get out.

Colin even duck taped the opening to the drain pipe as a deterrent to the iguana to just come and sit on our wall and taunt the girls.

We were racing against the clock as Colin did have to leave at noon as his bus left at 1PM.  Once the yard was reinforced he finished packing and I drove him to the panga.  He caught a pulmonia on the Mazatlan side and did make his 1PM bus departure.  Sadly it turns out that he forgot his lunch in the fridge due to all the iguana activity.  He arrived at 4PM in Culiacan with no issues.  How many start a simple 3 hour trip by taking a car, a boat, a taxi and then a bus?

Once back home I noticed how large Colin’s papayas were growing.  Sadly we will be long gone before they are ready to eat.  Hopefully next fall we will be able to enjoy the fruits of our  labor.

It was a loud day on the beach. Sunday the locals come out to play and today ATV’s were flying back and forth across the sand.  This family stopped a passing mariachi group to play and play they did for a long while.  I got to enjoy the music as they were just in front of our site.

This has been the coolest winter we have had in at least six years and it was nice to see all the families come out and enjoy the beach.  Each vehicle has speakers emitting some very loud music.  It can be a bit much at times.

While checking out the beach I looked down and it seems that I am growing either a melon or a squash. Who else do you know besides me who grows things in the sand?

My Aloe Vera plant is in bloom.

Once again as the sun set the girls settled down, except now they kept watching for Colin to return.

I was glad to see the sun set as it meant that I could go to bed very early. It had been a long day.

By the way, this is my second post of the day.  The one previous to this is asking for some advice re Las Vegas.

Need your input re Las Vegas

We haven’t stopped there for years and years and years.   Rates and reviews seem to be all over the place.  We are looking for somewhere with gravel or grass for the dogs, certainly not an asphalt parking lot.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If you have recommendations for some newer attractions, restaurants, casinos, anything at all, that would also be most helpful.

Our girls have become hunters

As you know we have had iguanas around who love to eat our hibiscus.

This guy spent the last few days just sunning himself on the RV park beach fencing.

He is much larger than the one I have spotted on my plants.

Two days ago the girls spotted him.

This is not the first time they have spotted him as he has been in our yard off and on.  They know what the iguana scent is. The iguana is sitting on top of the fence post, his head is in that small square at the top.

But it is the first time that they have been able to corner the critter.

They would not stop their baying and barking.

Quite the commotion.

Somehow it got away and we corralled the girls into the yard.  Colin saw it go into our drainage pipe.  The girls know it is in there and have dug down to the pipe thru our pea gravel.  Caeli is checking everything over in fine detail.

Carmeh wants to get the iguana so badly that she actually did jump over the wall once.  The worse thing possible for her fragile back.  Can you see her panting  pink tongue?

She really wants to get into that drain pipe.  As you can see she was determined to go thru the fencing.

Here you see water running out the drain pipe.  Colin put the hose into the top of the pipe under our RV to try and flush out the iguanas.  Yes, plural.  He saw three of them in there.  The girls were hoping to catch an iguana but that never happened.  The only thing that came out was a bunch of poop and some dead flowers.

Sunset came and the iguana situation calmed down.

Finally a relaxed end to the day.

Stayed tuned….the hunt is not over 😯

Another night out on the town

As we left our site and headed to the panga I could see that the sunset was going to be amazing.  I took this just as we boarded the lancha.

Yes it was pretty amazing.

Spectacular.

The light was low but still an outstanding view.

We were on our way to Casa Haas, just a block off the Plazuela Machado where we were meeting long time blog readers Jenny and Brad.   We were there to listen to a classical guitar concert.

It was a free concert compliments of Cultura Mazatlan.  This was the first of three guitar concerts in a row, all direct from the Culiacan International Guitar Festival.  Colin usually attends the festival but stayed home this year.

Jaime Soria was the performer last evening.  He was very good.  The guitar he played was built in 1936.  He discovered it in Mexico City a few years ago and had to reconstruct the instrument which was a full year project. He used the same luthier that Colin did when he had his guitar refurbished.  Abel Garcia is considered the best luthier in the world.

Jamie recognized Colin from years past when they both attended the Culiacan Festival.

After the concert , the four of us headed over to La Bohemia in the Plazuela Machado for a late dinner.

We met Jenny and Brad a few years ago when they were in Mazatlan,  actually a few times over the years. One the many things we have in common is a love of all things cultural.  They have been upgraded to friends from long time blog readers.  We could have gone on and on with our conversation last evening.  However it appears that we are all retiring about the same time next summer ( except for Jenny who has been in the relaxed grove for a while now ) and it seems that we will be spending a good deal of quality time in Mazatlan come the the fall of 2018.

One of our better nights on the town 😀

A fun few hours at the golf course

Last Sunday we took a drive to the other end of the peninsula.

Estrella Del Mar is a popular golf resort here in the Mazatlan area and is also home to many.  Click here for a short video of the place.  One of its many features is a turtle sanctuary.   On a clear day you can see it from our place on the Isla.  We have a friend who walks the full 9 miles along the beach at least once per week and then does it again on his return.  Yes you can walk along a flat gorgeous beach all the way to the golf course.  Some ride a horse and others take an ATV.  We chose to drive, now that the road is paved it took just under 15 minutes.

Condos for rent and for sale. Taken from the EDM website.  All with an ocean view.

There are lots on the ocean for sale and a few lovely homes have been built so far.

Other homes have been built along the golf course.  Yes that is a spot at the top of the shot, on the lense of my new camera.  Dang!

We have friends here who own a condo and another who has a lot along the golf course but just can’t give up living in the village on the Isla.

We don’t golf but our golfing friends say that the Estrella golf course is superb. Often many of the RVers will head out for a day on the links.

We instead decided to head out for a drive, a tour of the area and of course lunch.  The view is one of the best anywhere.

We met Diane and Pierre for drinks and lunch at the clubhouse. There is also another restaurant at the EDM hotel.  So nice to be able to have a gourmet meal just down the road from Tres Amigos RV Park.

During our luncheon we saw heavy grey smoke snaking horizontally across the sky, paralleling the entire 9 miles of beach.  Apparently the yacht caught fire almost directly in front of our RV Park.  The burning vessel was towed out to sea by the coast guard where it sunk.

After a relaxed and entertaining meal our friends continued on with their golf game. Great form Pierre!

Thanks for the invite Diane. For certain we will meet you for lunch yet again.

We hope that you enjoyed your game as much as we enjoyed our visit to Estrella.
