Saving starfish

On almost every beach walk we find some starfish wrong side up.  All those tiny white feet are clamoring to be facing the sand.

So Colin rescues them, one at a time.

With a flip of his toes they are returned to their happy place.  You can barely see those tiny white feet settling back into the sand.

Then Colin carefully covers the starfish with sand.

Often the tide is still going out so the covering of sand gives them even more of a chance to survive.  Colin saves between 3 to 10 starfish per walk, sometimes more.

I know I look like an old lady here but my 10 peso scarf sure helps keep my sunhat on during the windy walk back to our site.  So glad I came up with the idea as holding the hat down with my hands became tiring very fast.  We have had a lot of strong wind this last week especially just after noon.

Trip into town and a beach walk

A few days ago we went into centro to pick up some veggies at the mercado.  Two cruise ships in port.

Just behind them was a freighter being pushed out into the shipping channel.  The port is becoming increasingly busy.  Note the two freighters  in front of the white Princess cruise ship.

A yacht docked at the far end, perhaps for repairs.

Those tugs do a great job of re positioning a freighter.

Just someone walking their pet through the parking lot.

Always different buildings to check out.  I do like the color choice.

Interesting….

The road in front of the mercardo is still a mess.

Somehow we ended up here after all the grocery shopping.

It all looks so good.

I had decided to have something else but the lure of the shrimp burger was too great.  We did not eat dinner later that evening.

This guy carried all this wood on his shoulder and loaded it on the roof of the lancha.  Here at the colonia stop he is carrying it off.  How else are folks going to get things across to the Isla?

Once we put the food away we went for a long walk. Yup that is a plane tied up next to Casa Flor.

As we came back we were able to capture the incredible  amount of dust that we have to deal with each and every day.  Yes we live in paradise but with a a price.  Dust!  The horses pass up and down this road, which is right next to our RV, several times per day.  We have had to learn to just live with it.  Well worth the price of paradise.

Sailboat coming in just in front of a few RVers.

As you can see we have not had a lot of blue sky over the past month.  Fortunately that changed about four days ago.

Wow, we got to see some dolphins

Someone shouted out “Contessa, dolphins”!!  Very rarely do we get dolphins in our bay.

Difficult to photograph but this proves that we saw them.  Someone later said that they saw a whale a few weeks ago.  Hmm…no one told me about it.

I wonder what the yacht owner would think of this photo!

I leave you with this……

Happy Valentines Day to those that celebrate the day.  Our day was not what it was supposed to be but we are grateful for what transpired.  Details to come.

Carnaval parade 2018

Thanks to wonderful friends who invited us to their lovely condo overlooking the malecon to watch the parade.  We had a great view being only one floor up from the pool level, great food to munch on, drinks and most importantly a bano 😀   The first parade we saw was in 2012 which remains our favorite and the last one was back in 2014.  It you wish to see the photos and blog post just type in Carnaval parade in the search box in the top right corner.  Usually I would do links to those for you but I have begun my research into our Europe trip and the day slips by.  It is now almost 8PM and I am just starting to write this post and dinner is yet to come.

It wasn’t long after we arrived that the commercial parade started. These folks are enjoying the view from the pool.  This float is promoting Fresca.

Isn’t this a great view?

Still part of the parade they call the ‘commercial parade’ where all the sponsors have floats.

These lovely ladies are part of a float advertising a new restaurant.

The route is long and takes up to five hours from beginning to end.

Here comes the start of the official parade.  Colin took these shots from the 6th floor viewing area.

Very bright and colorful floats.

This was a very large float.

Leon lives in Walla Walla Washington, one of the many folks we met from there on this particular evening. He says that he comes to Kelowna every summer and will come and visit us.

The parade seemed to go by quickly this year.  It always ends with some dancing horses followed by in this case, leaf blowers.  Then came the sweepers and the garbage trucks.

It wasn’t very long and the malecon looked like nothing had occurred. All the chairs, the debris and the people disappeared.  It was as clean as could be.  We simply walked out front and caught a pulmonia.

Everyone agreed that the commercial parade was the best ever but that the main parade was not as good as in previous years.

Princess update

Or Princesa as she is called in Spanish.  I found out that someone I only know as a quick hello on the beach has been volunteering at the same animal shelter that my girl is at.  I asked her for a few photos.

Apparently they are quite concerned about how thin she still is.  She looks as thin to me as when Colin brought her in.

So they have separated her from her puppies and have them eating puppy kibble and her on a special kibble to help her gain weight.

She remains the quiet docile lovely lady that I knew.  However the puppies are constantly crying for her so they let them get together for short periods of time at least once per day.  Someone mentioned to someone else who mentioned it to me that they think that two of the puppies have been adopted.  Only to be taken when ready of course.

This is a 40 second video of her and a few pups.  It breaks my heart as she so obviously wants to be loved.

I will check back again in a few weeks and see how things are going.  They did mention that she is walking on a leash now.

How can she get any rest with all that racket? I just breaks my heart.

So I was planning on posting this today when I found on the local Mazatlan news website more information on Princesa.  I never read any of the words but as soon as I saw the photo I knew it was her.  Her eyes go right into my soul.

Then I saw the name.  I can’t believe that her face has been so well imprinted on my mind.

Here is a closer look at the wording.

How wonderful to see Princesa in the news.  I do hope that this will help someone adopt her.

If someone in Canada or the US is interested in adopting her, there is a possibility that Colin and I can transport her out of Mexico.  I am not certain what kind of paperwork would be needed but that is a small detail.
