April Calendar Girls

It has been a difficult month but we are almost through it. We hope to have things turned around within two weeks. Meanwhile all is well, we just seem to run out of time everyday. The girls are happy and doing well. They continue to stick together most of the time and are still as cute as they were when they were tiny puppies.

The photo on the left was taken April 4th, 2021 when the girls were three months old. The one on the right was photographed on February 27th when they were almost eight weeks old. They still are often found in this position.

Que pasa

Colin did some repairs to the siding facing the lake. The wind was so strong while we were away that it made a hole in the siding next to a latched area. The door obviously was not made properly, the screws were not in the right spot.

I am still working on the year end. I had hoped to be finished today but spent hours on the phone this morning sorting out billing issues. I am close to getting $1700.00 back in wrong billing with four different companies. Example, our roaming in the US was free but they charged us big time. What if I had not checked my billing? As well I am going to be changing our mobile phones to another provider and between us we will be saving $80.00 per month. Over seven months that is $560.00. In the fall we will be switching to a different plan with the new provider that will allow us each to have our own phone in the US and Mexico with no roaming charges at all and that includes includes 2GB of data. Best of all we keep our same phone numbers so anyone can call us as if we were in Canada. All of this for only an additional $60.00 per month total, $30.00 each. Once our five months away are over we can go back to the cheaper plan, such deal.

Colin had found a few shingles on the ground around the house shortly after we got home. He went up on the roof and discovered that the wind had blown off five rows of shingles, some here and there.

I have this photo here so that I won’t forget who did the job. It took me a long to time to find this company, they had done some emergency repairs for us in January of 2021 but I did not have their name, finally found it on an older Visa statement. We called them Tuesday and they arrived Saturday morning.

It was a cool windy morning for them on the roof. We saved $50.00 before tax by doing a direct e – transfer.

A few days ago they crammed into a bed to sit in the sun streaming through the window. They are not very happy with the cold temperatures and the wind. Thankfully things are on the brink of improving heat wise.

So what is this new thing that if you use Visa you now have to add 2-3 % if you don’t pay cash? Even our business insurance company charged us an additional 2% when we had to renew just a few days after we got home. The way to a new future I guess. I’m sure that you have all noticed that the majority of companies ( electric, TV, phones, etc ) no longer mail you a paper invoice. If you want a paper copy you need to print it out on your own at your own cost. They are saving on paper costs, ink and postage. Before you gang up on me please know that we need the paper because of our incorporated business.

Today was cool and with rain showers. Ciela sat in the wee bed right in front of my desk heater. She is just finally starting to play with toys, the blue toy under her nose. The girls are letting us know in many ways that they are bored being home. They want heat and activity.

Colin surprised me with these sunset photos taken a few days ago on April 19th. My head has been down working with pen and paper. I so appreciated seeing these.

New activity for the girls

They even have chairs here.

Here in Kelowna we have a dachshund club which can be found by clicking here. I became aware of it just before we left last fall. I made a few posts over the winter, the girls with their Santa hats and photos and one video of them running on the beach. When we got home I was surprised to see an event at an off leash dog park ( that I never knew existed ) just this past Saturday the 16th. So off we went. The girls were shy at first but came into their own. It was good for them to be around another 15 or more doxies plus the few other dogs that come into the small off leash area.

They pretty much stuck together but did branch out a few times – even independently.

There were at least 15 doxies but no one counted. They never stayed in one place long enough.

A few times someone came in with a different breed. The doxies would run up and bark as loud as they could to sound the alert of an invader. Our two are at the bottom of the photo.

A good time was had by all. We stayed for an hour and then the wind picked and we all got cold so off to the car and back home. We hope to be able to enjoy more of these activities as they come up over the summer.

I am ready to start my 6 – 8 hour days of just documenting and getting everything ready for the final year end tax. This morning Colin went to the lawyers to pay to get our year end registered in the BC court system. Other than 3 – 4 long days of menial paperwork and balancing the figures that was our last big to do. I truly hope to have the entire thing completed by Saturday or Sunday so we can FedEx this to our accountant in Vancouver. They need a few days to put it all together for us, filing deadline is April 30th. They work with the personal tax figures as well as the company tax year end to create the final numbers so that we pay the least taxes possible.

Today was my first vein treatment ( right leg ). This was to be my second for this part of the year but I had to cancel an appointment because of the RV issues. I took off 59 cotton balls with tape ( which had to be done after three hours ) – there were others that were not taped, so lots of pokes in my leg, a big ouch. So my left leg will be done the 17th of May. I don’t fancy wearing a thick thigh high elastic sticking in the heat for seven days but I have no choice. I am really trying to just take everything one day at a time.

I wish that I could. But after three nights of getting 8 – 10 hours of sleep I have just a bit more energy. As I say one day at a time or as they say in Mexico, poco a poco.

Good news…

…our fence is finally completed. Our materials were delivered the end of March 2021. But we waited like good neighbours to do the install of our section as this is the side we share. We wanted them to have a say in colour and in height. They originally wanted white and if they went with that we would simply have put our section of coloured fencing on this side of their white fence. However it all worked out. Then they had trouble getting their beige and adobe sections ( which we already had ) due to Covid. Everyone was buying fencing and there was not much left in anything but white. Just found out that white is all there will be until sometime in 2023.

Where should I start?

Our neighbours got lucky and their coloured ( someone had 2000 feet left in adobe ) was delivered this past Thursday the 14th. That just happened to coincide with the date we had arranged for our fence builder to install our 24′ of fencing on that side of our home. Because of the girls we could wait no longer. He completed that on the 14th and returned on Saturday to complete their section. So we now are fully fenced in on three sides.

A work in progress not made easy as the property on our west side is not level as it was on our east side.

What is not fenced in is the beachfront. Neither of the girls were supposed to be able to do stairs as per our decision. We wanted them only use ramps in order to prevent back issues as they grew older. If they did stairs then they likely would start to jump. Somehow Ciela taught herself to use stairs much to our chagrin and now she loves to jump. So she can get down to the beach easily but Colin brings Carlie down and up. It’s only fair that she gets to enjoy the sniffs on our rocky beach.

Ciela. She has walked along the rocks on both sides. She will need to be watched.

Carlie. It will be interesting to see if they want to go in the water once it is warmer. This certainly is not the Isla.

Neither of them were aware that there was a duck approaching. Mrs Duck was not at all shy.

Back up where they should be. We are using some of their pen fencing to block off the beach access for now. 3′ b y 6′, 5′ by 6′ and 6′ by 6′ is our section of the fencing.

It looks lovely and the six foot length runs to the front of our home street side. Colin piled up some of the rocks on the left closer to the lake so that they could not cross over to the neighbours. I am very interested in any ideas that you might have to stop them from going around the end of the fence. Something creative, pretty…any suggestions at all would be appreciated.
