Another meet up with friends

It was a very high tide Friday morning when we saw Janet and Grant walk past.  Note how much of their feet and ankles are covered by the water.  I can’t walk in water like that.  They did stop by on their way home and we had a good visit.

Later we had Ismael come and clean out our flower bed.  All the plants died yet again.  After much discussion and thought we have decided to put our plants in macetas/pots.  The reason our plants have been dying year after year is mostly due to the roots of the palm tree strangling the plant roots.  The salt air also is a deterrent.

I also got rid of these Aloe vera plants.  I was getting tired of looking at that white wall plus I have two other patches of Aloe vera elsewhere in my gardens.

One of last years hibiscus plants roots strangled by the palm tree roots.

Pierre and Diane about to sail off in their new catamaran.

Mid afternoon we met Jenny and Brad at El Velero here on the Isla for a late lunch/early dinner.  They are long time blog readers who have recently sold their home in St Paul, Minnesota and have moved to Mazatlan.  Great decision you two.  They are loving it thus far.

I had the best ever shrimp/cheese quesadillas.  Lots of shrimp.

Jenny had the breaded shrimp which looked fab and she said they were very good.

We said adios at sunset.

I was surprised to see this dog with a sweater on.  It is not cold here.  An action shot as the dog would not stay still.

..so ends another great day in paradise.

Que Pasa

I read my news online. When I saw an article on Isla de la Piedra the other day I never expected to see the following.  Click here for the article.  What truly surprised me was the second photo.  Actually I was shocked to see our girls in a recent news article.

It is a photo of our girls and we both remember that day on the beach with the horses passing us by.  Someone must have taken the photo from my blog.  As far as we can remember it was taken 3 – 4 years ago.

Yesterday passed in a blur.  I was going to read part of a book in the afternoon but I only got 20 pages read before someone dropped by and shortly thereafter another visitor.  Everyone is wanting to stop and say hola and to catch up on the last six months.  I don’t have a lot of photos but I do know that we got even more done in our yard.  Pretty much down to getting plants and pots but that will come in a few days.  We did take the laundry in and clear out the rest of our bodega.  We make a big decision to let the dog fencing go.  There is no point in storing it for the next few years so the materials will be given to someone on the Isla who might need a fence or a pen for a dog or even a small child.

Eric dropped by to deal with an emergency RV electrical issue for a neighbor.  He had some spare time so he installed our fridge fan.  It wasn’t an easy task with the cramped space but it is nice to have that working again.

Someone was getting engagement photos done at sunset.

It was a nice enough sunset but I have a pet peeve this year.  When they put the net fence up this year they used a wide and tall post (lower right corner) which is in in my way on 90% of my beach shots.  First time that has happened.  I will have to ask them to change it when they redo it next year.

I forgot to check back to if see if a wave wet them.

How many steps did you walk today?  I bet if you could get 21% interest at your bank for walking 10,000 steps every day, that you would do it.

Not quite true but close:)

So I had a party…

We had folks arriving yesterday and some leaving this morning.  So it seemed like yesterday was the perfect time to have a hour hour.  Thus far half the people here in RV1 are new to the park.  A real different mix this winter.  I am just going to post a small selection of the photos we took.

Everyone brought something to share and we ended up with dinner for all.

We started at 4PM and everyone was gone by 7:30PM.  Cleanup was done by 9PM.  A good time was had by all, well except Colin.  He worked hard at getting our site ready for everyone and then again putting it all back together.

First trip into Mazatlan

Yesterday started off with a lovely visit with Anne my blog reader.  She is just down the road from the RV park in a very nice two bedroom rental for a very reasonable price.  Colin and I got a few more things crossed off the list and then I had to get ready to head into Mazatlan.  He dropped me off at the embarcadero while he went off to our bodega to drop a few items off and to pick up our laundry.  He would later join me in town.

Two cruise ships in port.

A Carnival and a Princess.   That is over 6000 passengers visiting and helping the local economy.

In this photo you can see how very windy it was.  Out on the ocean there were huge whitecaps but here in the shipping channel it wasn’t so bad but I still got a face full of water every time the bow of the panga hit a wave.  I finally turned my back to the front of the boat which helped.  There was no way I could keep my hat on.

I then took a pulmonia to Tippy Toes where I got my hair done. Colin met me here and also got a trim.

Colin first picked up some items from the mercardo including a papaya and a pineapple.  He tried to drop off a clock and a watch but the clock repair man was closed until 4PM.  Siesta time.  Deb cut his hair between my color and my cut.  He went back to the clock repair place and it was still closed at 4:30PM.  Someone went to another door and got the fellow for Colin who invited Colin in.  He immediately started to repair both time pieces and was very meticulous.   Too bad Colin didn’t have the camera as he would have got some neat photos.  Anyway both the watch and the clock were taken totally apart, checked and then given some tiny drops of lubricating oil.  He put them back together and the watch stopped working so he took it all apart again and redid it.  Then when all were working he shook Colin’s hand and said no charge.  How very special.

Deb, my hair dresser here in Mazatlan, is officially known as Deborah Rodriguez, an internationally bestselling author.  Her latest novel, ‘The Zanzibar Wife’  is only being published in England at the moment.   However it is available at Amazon.com and it will be shipped to you.  Click here to order the book.  I first met Deb back in 2012 when I chose her book , ‘Kabul Beauty School’  for our Isla book club.  Click here for that story.  Meanwhile I was happy to get her to sign my book.  I never read any of her books until she signs them 😉

Colin finally got back to Tippy Toes just as they were closing.  I was beginning to be concerned as to his whereabouts.   He was at the watch repair place and had no idea of the time 8-O.  So adios to Debbie my friend and off we went in search of an ATM.  Found one but it would not recognize our card even though it did last year.   So off we went all the way back to the bank by the Cathedral.  Perfecto.  We each got the max we could on our ATM cards.

As we walked we caught a glimpse of the sunset.

We were later told that the sunset here on the Isla was beyond magnificent.  I really didn’t like missing that one.

Sadly I did not take photos but after much walking to the ATM’s we returned to Olas Altas and had dinner at the Fish Market and enjoyed a ( well two ) margaritas for me ( limonada for Colin ) and a shrimp fettuccine for me and a salmon fettuccine for Colin.  Suzanne. I can’t go there without thinking of our perfect afternoon there after the violin concert.

Just as we arrived at the restaurant I took this photo with my iPhone.  It is amazing that I figured out how to get it to post on the blog.  Happy to be able to use the iPhone here in Mexico.

Just another day here in paradise and some memories

On our beach walk yesterday ( Monday ) Colin saved the life of a star fish.  It must have been thrown high up due to a rogue wave.  But is is now back in the ocean and presumably doing well.

Later in the early afternoon, Pierre took out his catamaran.  He was out there for a very long time, having a great deal of fun.

We got many more things crossed off the list and are almost done.  So we had time to watch the local RV TV.

This guy really got stuck.  When he arrived a few hours earlier he also got stuck and was pushed out by one fellow.

Leaving the beach he got stuck yet again. This time he required more help including members of the boy banda group.

Lots of pushing happening there.

Meanwhile we just relaxed with Anne and Paul as we eased into happy hour.  I still can’t believe that they just showed up here on the Isla for the first time.  I of course recognized Anne due to her very special curly hair and they in turn knew it was our RV due to the paint job.

We first met Anne and Paul in Acapulco where we RVed for four winters.  Thanks for taking these photos  Pierre.  Our first winter in Acapulco was in 2004 but I think that Anne & Paul only arrived in 2006.  She will be the first to correct me if am wrong.  Anne knows the que pasa of all the dates.  We spent several hours reminiscing.  So many special memories.

I have to say that our time in Acapulco was the most special of all our RVing memories.  We did so much there including help the RV park to grow and we met so very many special friends including Henriette & Gilles, Shirley Ann & Jocelyn, Nicole & Jacques, Hannah & Bobbi and so very very many others. Those years were a highlight in our lives.  We have never been in an RV park since that has had such a special mix of people,  half only spoke French and the other half only spoke English.  Because I spoke those two languages and a bit of Spanish I was elected to speak to  the group as a whole.  I usually jumbled  things up.  Instead of relaying the messages from the owner in first English, then in French and then in Spanish, I often ended up using all three languages in one sentence.   Somehow it always worked out 😳  We had unique happy hours up on the mirador where we often saw the whales frolicking in the ocean.  We also had so much music in our times together.  So many musicians including Vince from South America and his twelve string guitar.  We sang, in both English and in French and we danced and danced.  Oh my,  I am getting lost in my memories.   We have yet to find an RV park as wonderful as Play Luces was.  It wasn’t great as far as water pressure and electricity and many other issues,  but it was above and way beyond in camaraderie plus.  To date it remains our very best RV park experience.  I am so thankful to Anne and Paul for bringing these memories to the present.

How the sunset began……

…and how it exploded.   A very special memory was created yesterday thanks to Anne and Paul.
