Que pasa on our beach

This has been an unusually cool holiday season.  Not many tourists willing to brave the cooler temperatures.  I feel badly for the beach vendors and the local restaurants that count on tourism at this time of year.  It has mostly been totally overcast, a few days with some peeping sun and one full glorious blue sky warm day.  Not what we came here for.  Many here and on the Isla in general have colds, one of the RVers is now in the hospital with pneumonia.  When the temps go down to 65F/18C with 65% humidity and with cool blowing winds it is time to bundle up or stay inside.  We have chosen to do both but are mostly staying inside.  We haven’t had a beach walk since Christmas Day.

Some are totally bundled up yet there are a few wading in the water and one brave soul up to this neck in the ocean.

More folks from snowy Durango off the bus for a day at the beach. I guess to them this is warm.  Hmm looks like another stuck truck.

This guy appeared to be right down there.

A tractor was called in.

That only happens when a vehicle is really truly stuck.  But it worked!!

This photo was sent to me from someone back home. Looks like our sign is working.  It has been difficult for those looking after our home to climb over the plowed snow pushed onto our driveway.  Plus once it melts we come home to a bunch of rocks and debris on our driveway.  No more, I hope.

This cat had been sleeping two sites over, on our friends table. This is the one I saw on January 1st sitting on the roof of a car outside of my bedroom window.  I have no proof that this was the one of the two cats that destroyed part of my artwork.  The other cat left today.  Too late for me though.

For the past few days RV1 has been totally full and then three left over the past two days.  However there are reservations and folks will be arriving soon.  I hear that all four rows of RV2 may be full at one point.  That will be a first.  The last time it was even close to this full was the winter of 2009-2010 when George from Our Awesome Travels was here.  We were both in the third row.

The wind this morning was blowing many of my bougainvillea blossoms off the branches.

Do you remember the people who came off the bus that parked alongside of our fence yesterday?  Well somehow through the day they would return from down the beach with a table, then two chairs, another table and finally more chairs.  When they left the furniture was scattered in a large area.  They did take their BBQ’s and trash with them but left their dining room behind.  It came to me this morning when I saw everything neatly piled up that I had last seen this same dilapidated stuff in front of the squatter’s compound next to RV2.  He must have come during the night ( I have been told that he is nocturnal ) to straighten the mess up.  I also noted that a few chairs were missing.  Perhaps he will take back some pieces tonight.  I just had to get the photo of  this tired vendor stopping and taking a break.  They must walk dozens of miles per day back and forth along the beach.

Sadly there were few tourists on the beach today.  Close to an equal amount of buyers to sellers.

Stay warm folks.  It’s cold everywhere, except Florida that is.

Out with the old and in with the new and a few mishaps

We finally had warmth and sun on the last day of 2018.  It was glorious to be out without a jacket.

Two new sailboats in.

Car carrier heading out.  Besides the banana boat you should be able to see a shrimp boat and a small panga behind it.

Final Isla sunset of 2018.

Heading out to the Plazuela Machado for dinner and to bring in the New Year.  That’s Bob in the back ground, he and others stayed home to enjoy a quiet fire.

Not too many out at 8:30PM but that would change after 10PM.

We were at Topolo’s for the 9PM sitting.  It was very cool out with a bitter wind.  Not fun coming over on the lancha never mind going back at 1AM.  We were home shortly thereafter.

There are now two cats belonging to RVers who are roaming free day and night.  I saw one sitting atop a car this morning.  One of them knocked my irreplaceable glass ball from Guadalajara onto the ground where it broke into pieces.  I have seen both cats on others tables, chairs ( ours as well )etc.  Yes there is an on leash rule here at Tres Amigos but I am not in charge.

It was part of a set and a gift from Colin last Christmas.

It was a miserably cold day today but everyone from this bus had a wonderful time.

There were over two dozen and they brought everything they needed for a day at the beach.  We spent 98% of the day inside staying warm.

It was a three cruise ship day. Of course I wasn’t up at 7AM to see them arrive:)

But we did watch them leave.

Sadly this truck got very stuck in the sand.  Sad way to end the first day of 2019.  Colin directed to them to a house where there was a tractor but perhaps they were out.  Only a lone fellow with a shovel came back.  But they did get out eventually.  They were so relieved.

Finally, the last ship of the day.

I hope that your first day of 2019 was memorable for you.

Yet another evening out

Last night six of us from RV1 headed into Mazatlan to enjoy the sounds of Los Cryps at Gaia Bistro.  We were there exactly two weeks ago enjoying the same group.  The band was even more amazing.

Not too many photos. We were living in the moment.

The music was so energetic…..it kept us on our toes.  Be sure to raise your volume for this one minute video.

Yesterday was our second very late night ( as in 11:45PM arrival back to the RV ).  The previous evening we had attended our very first ever quinceañera .  Scroll down on that link for information specific to Mexico. More on that fiesta in a few days.  We were overwhelmed with how special the evening was.

Tonight’s sunset.  Many families came down to the beach today despite the unusual cool temperature.  Only a high of 70F today.  I was so happy for their sake that the sun came out for the last hour and gave them a special sunset.

Another story about butterflies

Where to start?  Butterflies have been a part of our lives along with owning our doxies.  I have several new readers of late and I direct you here to read about the loss of our dachshunds.   I can’t believe that it has been 21 months today that they left us.  It still seems like only yesterday that we held them and loved them.  Just over a week later I wrote a special story of that day and butterflies, you can read that here.  It will explain our closeness to butterflies.  There are many other times I have written about butterflies, you can read those stories if you wish by typing in butterfly in the search box at the top right of this page.  The lastest story was about a butterfly release we were involved in this past July.

We had many visitors on Christmas Day.  He had a bath but was moving too fast for me to catch the splashing.

Christmas afternoon I had walked over to the wall to better see the activities along the beach.  I felt something tap me mid back and then a butterfly flew around me and landed in front of me on the wall.  Bottom right.  And yes it was cool enough for a sweater.

This very special visitor sat there for the longest time, opening and closing its wings but never moving from where it had landed.  So very beautiful and rather large.

It stayed even as Colin approached and I moved away.  Eventually Colin got up and then the butterfly flew to his chest and paused there for a moment before flying away.  It had stayed with us for well over five minutes.

The butterfly just moved a few feet away.  Our neighbors had put up oranges when they noticed how our oranges attracted various birds.  Our butterfly, which we knew right away was there as a sign from our girls, went to land on the orange.  But this small yellow bird would not let it rest on the orange.

Our butterfly tried to get the bird to move but the bird was not leaving.  You can see the butterfly in the top right corner above the pink.   It kept flying to the bird and the bird kept sending it away.  Finally our butterfly flew away.

Yesterday we had another butterfly visit. This one kept trying to get inside the RV through the screen door.  In fact the noise against the screen is what made me become aware of its presence.  It was even larger than the one we saw on Christmas Day.  Colin was outside around the corner and returned in time to see our special visitor.  I tried to pass the camera to him through an open window and screen next to my driving seat but in that brief moment our visitor had flown away.

Colin and I both feel very strongly that these were indeed visits from our girls.  How very special for us to have experienced this and so close to the 21 month anniversary of them leaving us.  Life is so very precious.  Live each day to the fullest.
