There were weiners everywhere

Actually I took this one but I was using Colin’s camera – I think. Hmm, it probably was my camera.

So glad that you enjoyed part one. If you missed it click here. I took the photos for part 1 and Colin took the following.

Dachshunds come in all sizes and colours.

That is Ciela on the bottom in the pink collar. She enjoyed socializing the most.

This is a wired hair doxie. Our girls are smooth doxies and there are long haired ones as well with a large plume like tail.

The following photos taken by a few different people were shared on the Kelowna Dachshund Facebook page. So I borrowed some to show you how much fun we all had.

Coin went out to the car to drop something off and he was greeted by a lot of doxies, all barking.

Such a beautiful dog.

It was a very hot 102F/39C day. So glad that we had brought our umbrella. 41 or 42 dog owners has RSVP’d that they were coming, perhaps   because of the heat not so many actually came out. It was a pot lock so that did not affect the food. However I think many of us were looking forward to seeing 41 dachshunds running round and likely it would have been closer to 60 dogs as many of us have more than one and even more than two.

Someone took the group photo and Colin had asked to please take one with his camera. Because of the sun, etc, he able to play with it a bit ( highlights & shadows ) so that everyone was seen.

26 doxies on my count.

A bit larger but it is starting to get grainy at this point. That is Kalamalka Lake in the background, a lake of many colours.

We certainly had a wonderful time. Special thanks to Erin for hosting the event.

We went to a PAWTY on Sunday

Specifically we went to the annual pool party hosted by Erin, one of the Kelowna Dachshund Club members. We moved here in 2003 and I only discovered this group once we got back from the Isla. It was a perfect day with highs of at least 95F. We were thankful for the cloud cover that came in. Erin’s home has fabulous views of Kalamalka Lake and is a fully enclosed 16 acres. She also dog sits for overnights – except that there is a possibility that they might be selling their home next year.

A good friend Heather, who would like to live in the water if she could- a true mermaid, took Ciela under her wing to get her used to the water.

It was pot luck and there was a large variety of things to eat. Colin is at the table and you can see our girls on either side of him. Thank goodness we put their neon pink collars on, one has tiny white dots. It was easy to find them in the string of dachshunds. Yes that is what they are called or a mischief of dachshunds.

This is Smokey. He lives to be on the water. At one point he jumped from the pool edge to get onto a surf board at least a foot away.

We brought two chairs and an umbrella for shade ( thank goodness ) so both humans and dogs had shade. The only problem was that the male doxies kept peeing on the umbrella stand and the rocks we used as weights against the wind. These guys peed everywhere including on Colin’s camera bag. That is one reason that we only have female doxies.

Colin found a flotie that we had purchased years ago and never used. It has a net bottom so the water comes through. Carlie did not like her life jacket at all and kept rolling over and under the water when we put her directly in the water.

They appeared to be happier on the surf board ( which we borrowed, that you Jan ).  That is Smokey behind Colin, not sure who is on the right.

These two spent a good part of the day on this floatie. Most of the time they also had a ball in their mouth.

 

Not easy to see but there are 9 doxies in this photo.  The lady in the middle with the straw hat has a doxie in her arms and the lady on the left ( between the girl with the long hair and the float with the 2 dogs ) has two doxies in her arms.

It was so much fun. When our girls were not in the pool it was difficult to find them as they were everywhere.

Life can change in the blink of an eye

Please be sure to tell someone that you love them and give your pet extra special hugs right now.

We had a wonderfully extraordianry day with our girls and that will be in the next post but I came home to sad news.

Gramma Katie is ever so slowly starting to fade.  We love her so much and it is breaking our hearts.

My best friend, Rae, who lives in Merida, Mexico, lost her ever so special rescue dog Bonita today. It was an unexpected and sudden loss within 24 hours.

I live by the saying ” live each day to the fullest, as we don’t know what tomorrow will bring” . So please send an email, make a phone, reach out to someone and tell them how much you care.

Another special day today

Thus far it has been a quiet relaxing day. But ever so hot. Looks we are in the midst of a heat wave. 94F this afternoon. Next week we will be touching the low 100’s. Perfect day for Colin to start his 72nd year on this planet. I honestly don’t think that anyone would guess his age, he doesn’t even have grey hair.

Well this is a surprise to me.  Looks like Colin took a few photos earlier this morning from inside the house. A juvenile eagle. It was hunting for fish. We always keep a sharp eye out on the girls if they are outside when we see eagles.

The girls are just having another relaxing day out on the front stoop.

Ciela has put herself into this tiny ball shape. All four of her feet are touching together. Carlie has a  lighter coloured foot on either side of her.

Colin did some work this morning in preparation for a huge aerial photo shoot in Vancouver next week. But he stopped to dremel Ciela’s toe nails. Her nails are much longer that Carlie’s and need to be done more often. He took advantage of her being sleepy from the heat, here he is using a nail file after the dremelling. We actually use a calendar to track toe trimming, teeth brushing, fur brushing, ears cleaning and baths and whatever else we need to do for them.

Then Colin decided to have a nap. Caeli joined him.

A bit later Carlie came along to check out what was going on.

They all finally fell asleep together.

This is going to be a low key type of day.  Colin gets to decide what he wants to do today and that includes Chinese food for dinner and a movie of his choice. Usually it is something that I don’t like to watch but hey a birthday only comes along once per year.

I myself feel like having a nap. Happy special day mi amore.
