😳
So Colin decided it would be nice to extend our lovely kitchen floor into the bathroom.
So do we drive to Indiana to get it done, which is where got the kitchen done or find someone locally.
So Colin ordered in the Dura Ceramic tiles and found a ‘craftsman’.

the 'hole' problem!
What the carpenter did was to simply remove the toilet, put in the ceramic tiles and replace the toilet without putting in a new gasket which everyone now knows to do.
He did do a very good job what with taking out part of the kitchen tile so the tiles would continue through into the bathroom rather than have 2 half pieces of tile side by side. He also made a point of using a glue that never dries ( as they did in Indiana) so that the tiles move with the movement of the coach as we hit tope after tope, pot holes and other obstructions thus allowing us a no crack floor. 😆

Tuesday (June 22) we woke up to no hot water but a drip free toilet!! Progress! We can’t figure out the hot water situation at all. The tech on Monday had put in a new rod and we did have hot water for a bit. Actually it ran out in the middle of Colin’s shower. Tuesday morning the tech said he had no idea what the problem was. At least the water heats on propane but we do want to use the electric element. Another problem for another week. So far the toilet seems to be holding with no leaks that we could find. By the time we were ready to pack up the rain was falling, one bonus..no need to clean the front window but what a mess putting everything else away. Then Cheikka decided she wanted a bath and proceeded to have one in her tiny water dish. She somehow managed to get water everywhere.

Where her feet are is the bathtub!
We finally checked out and went on to fill with propane and diesel. What a huge difference in the price of fuel..regular gas in Edmonton was 82.8 per litre and in Kelowna it is 105.9 per litre. It was 12:30 as we headed West on the Yellowhead. Such a late start for us. All in all it was a pleasant drive and we saw some deer and mountain goats. We pulled into Valemont about 6:30PM. Toilet still good.

Colin muy feliz!!
Yesterday (June 23) we were driving by 8:30AM. We only saw a small black bear today, possible a baby. There was a huge assortment of wildflowers in almost every color & shape, yellows, reds, whites and a particularly beautiful mix of pinks and mauves. A beautiful wood hand built canoe being sold at the side of the road caught Colin’s eye. When he didn’t come back after 20 minutes I was sure he had bought it…..not to be…a work of art but not in our budget for $6500.00. We arrived back here at Holiday Park Resort by 3:30PM, unloaded, and got the RV back on the lake lot by 5:30PM. Oh to be fulltime and simply back into your spot….no unloading, putting away etc.
Today we checked in with a few rv techs re the black mold issue and were advised to just keep an eye on it. People have had worse overflow problems than us and for a much longer period with no ensuing problems. We also checked in with the insurance claim agent who said that we were covered for moisture problems only, not for rot or mold. Now if I’m not mistaken don’t those things happen because of moisture? Just now we had a visit from our floor installer guy who claims he did not know to put a new seal under the toilet when he put it back. We will absorb the cost of the repairs and in exchange this fellow is going to refinish our TV cabinet in the RV plus a few other jobs along that line.
It has been a busy day but oh so good to get home…now if only the sun will shine.

The RV tech was to arrive no later than 8:30AM. After Colin called three times, explained that he had to go to work and we were heading West tomorrow we finally saw the tech about 10:30AM. He confirmed the toilet leak…!!!!..said he couldn’t do anything till they found a seal and hoped it would happen today. Then he took a look at our water heater…it only works on propane. The element needed to be replaced. It had a hole in it from corrosion.
Well now we can use electricity again to heat our water. Now if only we can get the shower to mix the hot & cold water I would be perfectly happy. Right now a shower consists of a blast of cold water followed by a blast of hot water and so on.
A miracle, the parts were here by 1:15PM. It is a process as we need to (actually me cuz Colin is working) wipe up all the extra liquid that drains as the toilet is lifted. Then I had to disinfect the open rim area before the seal was properly placed. Then for the 4th time, disinfect the top & sides of the tank as well as the basement compartment. We have filed an insurance claim just in case we do have to have the basement taken apart. Black mold is our biggest concern. We will check in with Voyageur RV when we get home. 30 minutes later we are still leaking!! I call the tech back…meanwhile I am soaking up liquid, flushing & checking for liquid etc….Oh no…we are still dripping. So Paddy my tech buddy comes back and on consult with me we decide to re caulk another area…..I really do think that I am ready for my RV TECH certificate!! So far so good.
Alberta is not B.C. and certainly not Mexico. It is simply different. You can’t get an aerial pilot, you can’t get wifi in most places, you can’t get propane easily, you can’t find a store where you need it but there is a liquor store on every second street corner, it is still light out at 11PM and then the birds start at 4AM..so no one sleeps, it is freezing outside (13C) and people are out mowing their lawns topless and when it gets to 20C everyone turns on their A/C. Gosh at that point we start to take off our jackets….it is cold here. I won’t even discuss the mosquitoes. The one good thing is that there is a huge field next to the dog walk here at the RV Park full of gophers. The dogs love it and run and run and run…Caeli l0oks like she has lost a pound.
We hope that when we awake tomorrow all will be well.
OMG…tornado warning….funnel clouds……
..we have to go home…asap………
Our mission here is complete, Dad turned 80 and is happy with his July 5th hip appointment, Colin got all his jobs completed, the RV was almost overhauled so now it is time to head out West towards the Okanagan. We are really looking forward to a safe no frills voyage. Keep your fingers crossed.
OMG..Colin says that I am now on “intake” restriction!!!!

The day started out in our usual ‘unusual’ style. Early this morning, Colin was off to do his aerial photography here in Edmonton but had to do it in a helicopter because it seemed that no one in this entire city was insured/licensed to carry a photographer. The first glitch of the day…the pilot demanded his $1000.00 fee in cash. So off we rushed to an ATM…I mean who carries that kind of cash around. We were on a time line here and we got stopped not by one but two very very long freight trains….yes my son we must learn the lesson of patience. Got to the ATM and found out it had a 400.00 limit. Even with pooling our cash we were short, so a rush back to the RV to get our cheque book, just in case 1/3 payment by by chq was acceptable. At this point Colin is frantic as he has less than 25 minutes till lift off. He made it, paid the pilot and rushed home to resume ‘operation smelly”. In the midst of this we were approached by a fellow rver who had just pulled in…I later said to Colin…don’t we know this guy…we do…he is a neighbor in Holiday Park Resort! Suddenly we are late and rushing out to see my friend Libby, Skip and her service dog Zulin. Finally we arrived at the parents for dinner and a final visit. The entire day seems to have passed in a blur. Happy Father’s Day to all.

Final group hug with the parents!

Ever since we left Kelowna I kept telling Colin that the RV smelt like urine!! He couldn’t smell anything and thought I was nuts. Well today he could smell urine. So our quiet Saturday afternoon has been spent unbolting various screws in various places in an attempt to discover the problem. Bottom line…we can’t use the toilet. Liquid is leaking down into our basement area. I mentioned a while back an rv reno we had done, part of it involved removing the toilet…obviously the worker never put it back properly. So the liquid has dribbled on top of the holding tank and all around it and into the compartment. The basement smell in permeating into the living area of our rv. Any ideas how to get rid of the smell? We are in an RV park where the public restroom seems to be 10 blocks away. We are having a great vacation here in Edmonton!
