….bear spray!! It can be purchased in Arizona in a sports store. All these security ideas are things we have carried in the RV for years and have never had to use. The bear spray came about mainly due to large Boxers, Pitt Bulls and Rottweilers roaming the beach in Acapulco. Oh and one very bad German Shepherd. We each keep a small canister beside us, in the pouch under the front side window as we travel and have one pocket size ( which can loop around a belt or a banister) canister close to the RV door. This is the one we use if needed on the beach. It must be the Girl Guide & Ranger training in me…”Be Prepared”.

…and we may need every hour. Still getting ready for Mexico, spent another few hundred dollars on essentials….I guess we need the stuff! We haven’t even left and are already having sewer issues. Colin took the RV in the end of Sept. to have some modifications done in the ‘black’ area. When he checked it out (don’t ask how??) he discovered, unfortunate for him, that the service dept. did not do what we had paid them for! Lesson here is to check everything right away and don’t take anyones word for it. Now they want us to bring the RV in…impossible at this time. So he is running around town between photo shoots looking for parts! While I was in Walmart today I heard Xmas music overhead……what’s up with that? It reminds me of the time we overnighted in a Walmart in the USA very early Nov. and had to listen to Xmas music on outdoor speakers all night long!
Hot off the press…well actually the internet…Bill & Carol & the Fuzzies have arrived safely in Mazatlan with no problem enroute. They promise details of the trip in a day or so. I in turn, promise to post it here.
Some news on the home front. We have had an empty RV lot to our left for 7 years and now we have full time neighbours. They love flowers and immediately started improving their site.

this is the 'before" shot

the pulling out of cedars

part one completed

The final fencing with a huge flower bed in the making. Good work ladies! It certainly makes our side of the fence look tidy!

A wee thought….I’m sure we are all cheering the imminent rescue of the Chilean miners but yet many in Mexico remain trapped in despair!! Salvador Camarena interviews the victims of crime or the relatives left after a family member has been slain. His job is to interview them on air. Yet now he says he is tired, he has ,to put it bluntly, become jaded. Can you blame him? Almost night after night he has new interviews to do yet he can’t understand why no one is coming to Mexico’s aid. In his words………..
“Although my pessimism has been brewing for some time, it reached a boiling point over the weekend. How is it a tragedy involving 33 miners has mobilized an entire country, but in Mexico no one has even pressured authorities to recover the 27 men from Michaoacan who were kidnapped over a week ago in Acapulco and Colima? The Chileans went to any and all lengths necessary to find the manpower, machinery and technology which would insure the successful rescue of their men. Have any of us even prayed?…..I don’t want to interview victims, I’m done. I’d rather put on the air people who are fed up and are tired of the excuses given by inept authorities, such as the Governor of Nuevo Leon who after Wednesday’s downtown Monterrey tragedy, made light of the situation by stating these violent public attacks were not unique to his state, they happen everywhere.”
How very sad for Mexico! How wonderful for Chile! But why the difference in response by the world?????? Comments if you will!
Acapulco use to be our main stop in Mexico. I wonder on a daily basis what happened to those 22 men from Morelia, kidnapped in broad daylight on the malecon……

…in addition to my suggestion of bringing along a motion security light….how about an air horn? Yup, just a regular sports type of air horn. I can see it coming in as a useful security alert device to other Rvers in your park in case of a night emergency. You might want to devise a system to the blasts, i.e. one blast could be for a medical emergency, three quick blasts could be for a red alert security issue. You decide.
Don’t forget to check out my September posts re the various bug sprays for humans and pets, etc.
I also will post any travel updates as soon as I get them. One set of friends is crossing about the 13 th of October and another a week or so later. Of course I will post details of our crossing on October 30th.
Just found this out…as of August 2010 you can no longer purchase antibiotics in Mexico over the counter. You now need a Dr’s prescription.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to you all. We’ll celebrate American Thanksgiving in Mazatlan.

Gotta love that lamp!

...speaking for myself of course!
