Feliz Ano Nuevo!

Happy New Year everyone!  May 2011 be full of love, happiness and health!

It has been a busy day today starting with a catch & release.  Colin caught ‘the critter’ and with help managed to release it over 6 kms away.  A huge sigh of relief was heard by the entire RV Park.  Then not more than 3 hours later ‘the critter’ was spotted!  Another one!!!  Sigh!  More traps tonight for certain.

We are in the midst of organizing a musical concert and suddenly time is flying. Sort of like 2010 flew by.  We’ve had several plans for this evening from a pizza/bonfire celebration to a dress up top notch evening in town but have settled for a quieter evening with several residents here at Tres Amigos 1.  Looking forward to cocktails & appetizers and a good old fashioned pot luck dinner.  Most will be in bed by the time 2011 rolls in but Colin & I plan to welcome it in in person!

Happy 2011!

Just another day in paradise….

..today was just a quiet relaxing Wed….so laid back that I never even got this blog done till about 6:40PM local time…it was a perfect day..no particular reason….

The girls started the day basking in the sun on the dash....

There were two cruise ships in port and many of the passengers decided to spend the day on the Isla, much to the delight of the locals…business was brisk.  A kayak ride, a parasail ride, a margarita here and a cerveza there…great fun for all.  The vendors seemed especially pleased.  It was a perfect day to sit and watch the activity.

Colin got the back of the RV washed and waxed and I did finish ironing all 16 shirts and not a one was mine….hmmmm!!!!!!!!

El Tlacuache!!

No not a pussy cat, not a mouse and maybe not even an iguana but a tlacuache!

This critter decided to nest in a Ford!

We have to come to believe that this may be the critter that has invaded a few RV’s and a vehicles over the past six weeks.  All of this came to be because Miss Molly (part feral cat) and  part owner of said truck got curious Monday morning.  She managed to tangle herself and leash and long rope (she is an active creature, known to walk thru the park pulling a brick behind her) in the workings of the vehicle.  She just had to find the source of that particular smell!  And so said critter was exposed for all to see.

Are those the teeth (fangs) that have been munching away at our house?

Are those the claws that have been keeping us awake at night, scratching over and over just at the head of the bed?

If you look closely you can see a dark grey tail hanging down….as the critter descended further in the bowels of the engine the tail just kept coming and coming, slithering along like a snake, at least 14 inches of a rat like tail, first gray and the last six inches an off white color.  Not a pretty site. By the way the photos were taken by Colin, no way was I getting anywhere near that thing!

As far as we know this tlachuache is still living in Molly’s truck!  We’ll keep you posted….

So it seems that we have the initial European visitors to Mexico to thank for bringing this ‘thing’ here in their ships.

Here is a link explaining how this animal has been used in the indigenous myths for centuries.

Here is a loose translation from Spanish explaining a bit about this critter.  There is also a good photo of the tail on this link.
