The past few days, here in Canada!

I seem to be living in Mexico more than here.  My mind is often there even if my body is here.  We have had an extremely busy week.  I haven’t had the time nor energy to post, so today you get two posts!

Thursday morning, 10:30AM, on our way into Kelowna for another appointment. No further comment!

4:00PM the same day, things are brightening up. My tiny spring garden.

The end of a long day.....wonder who took this photo?

Some outdoor work begins, 14C but a cool breeze.

My car comes out of storage and gets washed. Thanks Colin. Yesterday I finally drove it!!

The golf cart got washed and so did 3/4's of the RV. It took longer to get things done yesterday, Saturday, as it was 17C and everyone was out & about and visiting.

We found time at the end of the day to sit, relax and enjoy a glass of wine and some Mexican cheese. As usual we commented on how fortunate we were to have the very best of both worlds, here on our beach site and of course our site on the Isla.

We wish you all a Happy Easter no matter how you celebrate it.  Today we will continue to do more work, hopefully all outside in the balmy 19C predicted heatwave!!!!  If you wish to see some beach photos of Semena Santa in Mazatlan check here on Countdown to Mexico.

Good News for Stone Island

Here is a Google translation from the April 22 Mazatlan Noroeste newspaper.  I wish the Isla a wonderful Semena Santa.

MAZATLÁN. _ since the beginning of the week increased significantly the flow of people crossing to the island of the stone to enjoy Sun, sand and sea.
So said the President of the Union of boat of the CROM, José Alfonso López Tirado, who noted that on Wednesday an estimated thousand visitors arrived to the island by means of maritime transport.
He noted that the South Beach Pier has 12 boats to offer transportation service to locals and tourists requesting.
“We are regular, hoping to reach more people.” “Besides, here is the place where people find cheaper the ticket price for cross… charge 25 pesos of round-trip”, stressed López Tirado.
The leader stated that the “saints” days are the most productive for the boat, it is estimated that today move to the island of stone between 5,000 and 6,000 people.
“Friday and Sunday are the most powerful days, so we hope to increase the influx.” “Saturday is still good, but lowers the volume of people,” he said.
Meanwhile, yesterday shortly after noon, the box office of the pier had already recorded an approximate thousand ticket sales, without accounting for the number of children who are not charged passage.
This was evident with the great number of people who swarmed the beaches of the island of the stone. From a very young even adults enjoyed the benefits of the place.
In the course of the morning, the palapas wore filled visitors, available spaces for sunbathing were gradually reduced and the sea was suddenly filled with swimmers.
Tourists and mazatlecos also used to carry out the various activities offered on the island of stone, such as horseback riding, in the “banana” and to play beach volleyball.
“Many people has been for days, but we believe that tomorrow (today) should be better, that many more tourists come,” said a trader of the place.

What’s in your gas tank?

Remember when we were crossing back into the USA on March 29th,  from Mexico at the Sonoyta/Lukeville border and a fellow ahead of us was having his fuel tank scoped by the border guards?  Well according to the following article (sent to me by a friend) there was good reason for it………..the article refers to the very same day that we crossed!

CBP Finds Nearly Half Ton of Marijuana on Tour Bus (Tuesday, March 29, 2011)

San Diego — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro port of entry Friday seized nearly half a ton of marijuana hidden in the gas tank of a commercial tour bus attempting to cross into the United States.

At about 9:30 a.m. on March 25, a CBP officer roving through the lanes of traffic waiting to enter the U.S. screened a commercial tour bus driven by a 38-year-old male Mexican citizen with a valid border crossing card, or DSP-150. The human/narcotic dog alerted to the gas tank of the bus.

Using a fiber optic scope, CBP officers confirmed anomalies with the gas tank.

CBP officers removed 252 packages of marijuana from the gas tank, weighing about 998 pounds, and worth an estimated $600,000.

CBP seized the bus and narcotics, and turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

The driver was booked into the Metropolitan Correction Center.

Snowbirds return

This is what we woke up to today, snow right down to the cherry orchards! Photo courtesy Castanet.

In the last two weeks, all the snowbirds who live here on Lake Lane have come home to roost.  The last two arrived late Saturday.  Of the nine couples, we are the only one to venture into Mexico.  Most stay in Arizona and two spend the winter in Palm Springs.  Soon ( if it warms up ) we will start getting together to compare the adventures & stories of the winter.  We mostly all feel the same, we have a close group of friends here at Holiday Park Resort and another group we socialize with elsewhere for the winter season.  Double the friends, double the fun and enjoyment.

…crumb…so now I was about to insert a photo here…but it is on the laptop computer and I am now working on the large desktop iMac.  I am going to have to figure this out…Colin & I share both computers.  We travel with the MacBook Pro laptop but when he is on the job he takes it with him.  When we are both home (read working in the office), Colin uses the iMac and I the laptop.  Hmmm, maybe I see my own personal laptop in the future!  Do you read my blog sweetie?

A few days ago we were awoken by a loud rat a tat, rat a tat.  It was a woodpecker waking up the neighbourhood by hammering on a steel pipe.  As I listened I realized how different the sounds of the birds were from Mexico.  Have you ever seen a duck in Mexico?

Looking for a place to nest...

One of the beauties of being a snowbird is the enjoyment of a wide range of bird species we get to enjoy.

This eagle was drifting across the lake early one morning. Majestic as always. Photo by Squidoo Images.

In addition to the snowbirds return, we are sighting more Canada Geese every day.  They love to hang out on our lake, aptly named Duck Lake and to leave their ‘calling cards’ on the grass and patio at our beach site.  Not my clean up job!!!!!!!

Did I mention our new neighbours, Donna & David, a very unique species of bird!  They tend to hang out on their roof!!!

The snowbirds are home, so please Mother Nature, can you turn up the heat?
