ON AGAIN ? ! !******

After spending an hour this morning planning my flight to Edmonton on Dec 26th I got the news.

Mom has just been booked for her heart surgery in 2 hours.  Hopefully she will be leaving her room at 11:30AM for the OR.  There was a cancellation for the heart surgery scheduled for this afternoon and they are prepping her right now.

Prayers for her surgery as well as it actually happening would be appreciated.

11:30 AM…..have said my goodbyes and good luck over the phone but she is STILL waiting!!

12:20 noon, Mom is IN SURGERY

4:30PM…..still in surgery!

6:10PM………STILL in surgery.  Just spoke with Dad, he is unsettled as am I.  The Dr. is suppose to call when the surgery is complete.  The top two heart surgeons in Alberta are working on Mom.  I just pray & hope they are not too tired.

6:50 PM…..surgery complete, Mom in ICU!!!

The surgeon said it went better than expected and I do know that you all had a hand in that, thanks dear friends.

Catching up!

A few nights ago, Sunday the 18th, Colin & I hosted a party for all the RVers plus other friends on the Isla.  The evening was a huge success, almost 6 hours of fun, food and music.  We called it our Palapa Roof Raising party, I think we shall make it an annual event.

Most brought some food to share....so many delicious choices.

I never did a head count but I do know that about 20 people never arrived for a variety of reasons. We may have had to really raise the roof to fit them all in.

The light fixture in the upper right corner comes from Acapulco but the the green light we have for it is too bright so Colin took an empty Tecate beer can and drilled it full of holes, then placed it over the green bulb. So now we have a red & green xmas light. We recyle it all! Plus according to our Fire Chief Gary, it is safe!

At one point we had 4 guitars playing, that is Colin on the left in the orange shirt.

We all had a great evening. Hey, that's me over on the right, bare legs in front of the fire! Who took this picture? Colin???

DEC. 21 update….

….Mom’s lungs have refilled with fluid and her heart is missing a beat.  She is exhausted and just trying to rest.  The operating schedule is full till the 28th of Dec so all we can do is hope and pray.  I myself am horribly tired, if you recall I had surgery last July, from which I am still recovering.

I didn’t realize that the hospital Mom is in is so very very high tech and a leader in transplants.  A four year old received a new heart & lungs two months ago in a story that was featured on CNN.  Mom will have the same Doctor performing her surgery.

She is happy that the lives of two people were saved yesterday and knows that her turn will come soon.

Once again, I thank you all so much for your comments and emails.  It helped me get through the last two days.

The weather has clouded in and our high is only 75F, probably a few degrees cooler here on the water.  A perfect time for me to just relax and regain my energy.

Last night we experienced the most spectacular sunset....

SURGERY DELAYED

There were two emergency heart transplants and one emergency lung transplant today at Mom’s hospital.  All cardiac surgery was delayed and now in Mom’s case, surgery is rebooked for Dec. 28th.

However she is considered too weak to go home and will have to remain at the hospital.  She is upset needless to say as are all of us in the family.  I am hoping that if she is there in hospital and there is a cancellation of some sort she may still get her surgery sooner.  I will get more details later or possibly just Wednesday morning.

Heart Surgery!

It has been confirmed, Mom is having open heart surgery sometime within the next few hours.  She would only be bumped in the case of a heart transplant.

I have decided to stay here in Mazatlan rather then fly to Edmonton.  I have chosen to stay close to the phone and the computer in order to be able to have immediate updates from the hospital throughout the day.

I just could not imagine flying for 11 hours and not being in contact with my family.  I really had wanted to give Mom a final hug & kiss before the surgery but that is not to be.  I have spoken to Mom this morning and she seems at peace within herself and is looking forward to having her heart repaired so she can start to really enjoy life.  I will speak with her again just as her stretcher is rolling down the hall to the OR.  I am happy with my decision.

There is nothing I can do for her if I go there now, she will be in good hands.  One piece of great news is that the Pashmina shawl I had sent for her birthday has arrived and Dad will make sure she opens the parcel before heading to surgery.  It’s almost like a piece of me will be there with her this morning.  That puts a smile on my face along with a few tears in my eyes.

Yesterday's sunset, thinking of soon seeing Mom.

So I am packed, ready to go, but I am staying.  However I am not unpacking until tomorrow, just in case!

I will update later today when I have some news to share.  Hugs to you all.  Your comments, emails and cyber hugs mean so very very much.  Gracias!

1:00PM Edmonton time/also Mazatlan time

I have been on the phone all morning, talking to Mom, Dad, my sister, and the nursing station. I just counted, have made 12 calls!!  Mom has still not gone to the OR.  Still waiting, almost 3 hours late.  Mom did open her shawl and she was thrilled.  I look forward to seeing her wearing  it some day.
