Monday Beach Activity

We noticed an unusually large amount of pelicans hanging around the beach Monday morning.

Fisherman often set nets off the beach but this was a panga coming to shore.

By the time we did our morning walk, the boat and fishermen were gone. We could see bits of tiny fish in the sand plus the herons were still hanging around. It must have been a good haul.

We don't often see four herons hanging around together.

I wonder what we had possibly missed but we were late getting going yesterday morning.

Are those yellow fin tuna? Jessie happened to be passing the panga as it came in with a huge haul of fish. She asked if they were for sale, yes, 50 pesos! She had no money with her but they gave her the fish, actually they gave her two, 2 for the price of 1 in typical Mazatlan fashion.

She went back with her 50 pesos, about $3.85 Canadian. Then came the cleaning and cooking. Gary says this is just one of the fish on the BBQ!!

So next time you see some activity down the beach, you just might want to check it out….right away.  Or you just might miss out on something.  Lucky Jessie.

Even this morning, while writing this in my nightie I was missing out…..

Caeli let me know that there were a large number of visitors in our front yard.

These photos were taken from inside the RV. Apparently 3 of the horses went right thru the property next door, from the beach to the road.

A perfect Sunday !

Blue sky.

27C.

A gentle warm ocean breeze.

Plus a gourmet brunch.  The perfect Sunday!

Pancakes with blueberries or bananas, several types of syrup, fresh OJ, lots of fruit, warm croissants & muffins....

Even 2 flavors of Baileys to add to your coffee. A great start to the perfect day.

Someone even left us a message on our car! Not quite sure what it means???

A lovely sunset after beach walks and time reading in the sun......just perfect. The sun is now setting to the right of the tallest peak on the mountain.

This was taken Dec. 5/11, notice how the sun is setting to the lower left of the mountain. We were here one month when this was taken. Now we are just completing our third month. Time and the sun are moving on........

Golden Zone

We met friends in Mazatlan for a fun afternoon in the Golden Zone.  This is the strip along the beach where many hotels are located as well as restaurants and shop after shop.  It seems that the day had just got started when it was time to come home…..we will be doing it again!!  Only less food and more margaritas!!

I have a thing for coconut shrimp...really these are the biggest and the very very best ever.

Great sign!! Could beer and booze!

We went to Pancho’s Restaurant, overlooking the ocean.  This was shot at the end of the meal. They give out a complimentary tequila shooter as well as a cafe liquor in creme. A great introduction of the Golden Zone for Pat & Gord.  We all had something different and every bite was delicious. The margaritas were better than most.

I could not resist taking this photo..."genuine whopper sizes"!

We were not looking for larger size clothes but wine glasses.

It was a pleasure to share my favorite gallery with friends. I never leave this place empty handed. In fact there are several lamps we want to get for our new home but that will have to wait till next winter. Meanwhile there are thousands of items to chose from.

She really had a thing about the wine glasses....

He really preferred this rather interesting work of art. Details only from Gord's lips.

Colin was into self portraits...

Do you need one of these? Special price, today only....

It was hard to leave Michael Gallery, but we had to get back home to feed the kids! It was a fun outing for all of us.

I am not a happy camper!  Since the update to WordPress re my hijacking a few days I have little control of the placement of my photos on this blog.  GRRR!!!!!!!!!!  Do I have to figure this our all over again?

Mom update:

She is much better with the 4X increase in diuretics.  However I found out she has been very naughty.  When Mom was discharged last Monday it was to an extended care facility just outside the city in Leduc.  She refused to go as it would be too far for anyone, most especially Dad to come visit her.  So she said she wanted to go home and home she went.  Dad just found out about this Saturday as did the rest of us.  Once again should the hospital not discuss this with the family.  So now she is home where she does want to be, but can she manage?  Can Dad manage?  I think it is taking a toll on him. Hopefully Mom will start moving around and getting up on her own………. 😳

News and more news

Some good news for Mexico, at least in the area of airline travel.  We can only hope that soon more RVers will return to Mexico.

Written in the Mazatlan Messenger on 27 Jan 12 by Murray Page.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS INCREASED DURING LAST OF 2011

The Ministry of Tourism (Tourism Ministry) reported that the country experienced growth in the number of international travelers arriving by air for each of the last five months of 2011. During the month of December, 2011 1,072,000 international airline passengers arrived in Mexico. This number set an all-time high; was a 13% increase over December 2010, and was even 9.6% greater than the previous all-time high set in December 2008.

The Tourism Ministry noted that in December, 2011, the number of American visitors was 584,884, an increase of 11 % greater than December 2010 and 9% more than that seen in December, 2008. The United States continues to be the main source of visitors to Mexico.

Sadly it has also been reported that the cruise lines are still holding out on Mazatlan.

Alfonso Gil Díaz, Director of Administration of Mazatlán’s port, told media today that he has received notification from the executives of Disney Cruises that the cruise line has cancelled arrivals in the port for next year, 2013.

MOM UPDATE

Mom came home last Monday and it has been beyond hectic for her and Dad.  At least 10 people are in and out on a daily basis, Home Care, nurses, lab techs, etc.  By Friday ( yesterday ) Mom was showing signs of fluid retention and experiencing trouble breathing, the lab reported that her blood was getting thick.  Off to the family Dr. at 3:00PM who decided that Mom had to go to hospital. She was taken by ambulance to the ER, checked, tested, and checked again.  No pneumonia but more meds issued for the fluid in her lungs and her severe edema.  She was released at midnight!!  Dad, who can’t drive at night needed to get someone to go with him to pick her up.  Could the hospital not have kept her a few more hours?  Who sends out an 80 year old who had open heart surgery a month ago out at midnight into the care of an 82 year old recovering from 2 hip replacement surgeries in the last year who also can’t see to drive at night?????

Spoke with Mom just 10 minutes ago and she sounds good but admits to football size feet and huge legs.  She claims to have gained 20 lbs of fluid since the surgery.  Her diuretics are being increased dramatically.  Couldn’t talk long as yet another  nurse was there to change her dressing.

You have to read the Spanish Word of the Day, on the right, just below our photo….don’t try my patience!

Signs on the Isla

I have never noticed these before.  Have they always been here?

I love the lower sign of children depicted as angels, drive carefully. Alto means stop.

This speed sign is so high up a pole that it can barely be seen.

A very serious stop sign.

Topes means speed bump....slow down. I like this one.

The dangerous curve IS exactly as portrayed in the sign.

Just a few more fun things here on Stone Island.  Enjoy your day wherever you are  😀
