5C's Que Pasa

There is almost a daily change over of RV’s here and  as they clear out in the morning we have a great lake view.

While I slept in Saturday Colin took the girls for a long walk.

Carlie absolutely refusing to go onto the dock. Her toenails are dug is as best as she can do.

This is our morning set up for the girls.

In the previous posts you can see our afternoon set up. This is the first time that we put our chairs inside the pen. During the afternoon we sit in front of the RV in the shade.

Here I have been joined by a four year old and her 2 year old ( or slightly younger ) brother. They simply invited themselves in and figured out how to get into the pen.

It has been like a million years since I was with young ones like this. The questions never stopped. Our girls were not too happy. The girl put her toes on mine and looked me in the eye. Her dad came along and when he spoke to me she put her face next to mine and said ‘excuse me’ and asked her next question. Simple things like why were my shoes off, ” because my feet are hot ” so she took her shoes off. Her dad asked why her shoes were off and she said ‘because my feet are sticky”.

She ( can’t remember her name ) was most intelligent and persistent. When I told her that she was smart she said that she knew that. I was blown away by her Q & A.

These kids had asked much earlier in the day to come and visit. Their dad brought them over after asking permission. The boy was hesitant at first.

A lovely family. None of them had ever had a dog before so this was a teaching moment. Just look at their smiles.

Wells Gray was established in 1939 and covers over 1.4 million acres. It is a land of pristine forests, mountains lakes and rivers.

The falls drop deep into the canyon and out to a large river.

Some unnamed rapids we passed as we drove over a wee bridge.

Helmcken Falls. One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Canada, often described as more spectacular than Niagra Falls. The Murtle River free falls 141 meters ( 462 feet ) to the plunge pool below.

The power of nature is magnificent.

There is nothing to look at as you drive the main road in. Many of the sites require  a bit of a hike or a  much longer one. Sadly we were overcome by horseflies who have a vicious bite as well as huge wasps and mosquitos. They come out more in the heat and insect spray does not stop them. At one location we simply could not get out of the car as we were being swarmed so we had to pass on Dawson Falls and a few others. We missed s lot but it seems that we will be coming back.

The girls were exhausted. This is the first time that we simply let them lay in the back of the Jeep with the seat folded down, covered by lots of towels ‘ just in case ‘.

After about 4 hours we were back here at the RV Park.

While sitting there enjoying a glass of wine, a few helicopters with buckets flew over. There must be a fire not too far away.

These people arrived late afternoon and did a big set up only to leave the next morning. The sky is white due to smoke.

The restaurant is supposed to be first class. We will try it next time.

These units are in a great spot overlooking the lake.

We met a couple today ( on bikes ) who were here for two nights in one of these cabins, they had two long hair haired dachshunds. We saw them walk by later in the day. Sadly we never got all four doxies to meet up.

The lake seems high right now. If you canoe out there you will likely see some pained turtles sunning themselves.

We only got the RV back home about 5PM Tuesday so only had the rest of that day plus Wednesday to load.  The girls kept plopping themselves right at the entrance to the house so that we had to keep stepping over them.  They did not want to be left behind.

Finally on the road at 9:25AM Thursday. The girls fell asleep about 9:45AM.

Smokey sky as we neared the Kamloops area. We were supposed to head further north at this point but because of the fires headed east.

The girls move quite a bit as they sleep. I caught Carlie in mid stretch and yawn. Ciela was closest to me but somehow they switched.

Hard to see but Ciela has her hind feet pressing into Carlie.  They love to touch each other.

Total relaxation. The slept the entire way to Clearwater, 171 miles/275km in 3.5 hours. It was a smooth trip with no stops whatsoever. Carlie’s paws are so colourful.

We are staying at the Dutch Lake Resort and RV Park. We got their last available site which is what you see here. No shade at all and in an open field. We would have backed in so that we were facing the camera between the orange marker not the right and the picnic table.

Instead I went back to the office and begged for this site. A huge site with both sun and lots of shade. The kind lady at the office moved three sets of people so that we could stay here for our three nights. I plan to gift her a bottle of wine as a thank you.

We have never been here before and this is a gem. Best of all it is only 3.5 hours door to door. It did take us 2.5 hours to set up mostly because of figuring things out for the girls. Once we had lunch we went for a walk. The temperature got up to 90F with 50% humidity. We got down to 56F with higher humidity overnight. Great sleeping weather.

I think the girls had four walks yesterday. This is the dog beach where they can go in if they choose to.  We will try it later today or tomorrow.

I can only assume that this RV from Washington state has been in Canada all through Covid. They do have a lovely view of the lake.

We did have to reposition about an inch so we could get the awning out.

This park has a lovely layout.

But is crowded in some areas.

We are very happy with our secluded site.

A mix of A frame and log cabins and a few old wooden park model sites. They even have a huge three bedroom cabin right on the lake.

At the end of the day the girls managed to curl up on their own.  We all had a one hour nap late afternoon and were in bed by 11PM. Very quiet park. So happy to be here.

We loaded in half the time. Now midnight and we are up very early in the morning.
