Happy Birthday Mommio!! 98 years is a huge accomplishment.
When Colin returned from his visit he sent his brother Bill a note…
Thanks for seeing me and Mommio. She is a gem and has a heart of gold. We will miss her so much one day. She is same age as Hotel Fort Gary. Amazing and has the same huge history of where she came from, being kicked out of her home by her dad when she started the 7th grade and was told to find a job instead and ended up filling caskets with sawdust to please her dad with $. The hard times in those old days where women and education were not accepted. The accomplishments she made, buying and selling houses and now being so independent at 98 in her own home care and financial survival. She did the escalators at Polo Park today with her eyes closed. I bought her a $30.00 heater today and it has 2 levels of power and she loves it. No need to turn on the oven. It is set up in the kitchen. Possibly she can take it to the bedroom and plug it in there. She can put it on the floor to warm her feet. She said at night she gets up and sits by the kitchen window (heat register below) to have her legs warmed because of her rheumatism and then her legs would calm down so she could go back to bed. (Bedroom is cold) Hopefully this heater will help somehow. Life is short and we are all getting older, please look after her. If she needs another heater buy one for her. Age is a challenge. Thanks for your hospitality and spending time with me visiting.
We also send Happy Anniversary wishes today to Gloria and Bill. They got married on Mommio’s birthday many years back. We hope that Winnipeg appreciates you all.

Just a few quick notes for those of you who may not have been keeping up to date with the changes.
The first one has to do with new immigration laws that will come into effect on or about ( that's Mexico for you, no exact date ) November 12th. You can read about it here. For those who plan on spending more that 180 days in Mexico and for those who currently have an FM2 or an FM3 there will be changes in the paperwork involved once your current visa expires. For those of us just wintering in Mexico there will likely be different paperwork than we are use to.
The big change is in the crossing at Lukeville into Sonoyta. This is very well covered in the RV.Net Forum, just scroll down to Rving in Mexico to read about it. If you plan to cross at Lukeville you must read about the changes which include being sure to have pesos with you, if you have an RV larger than 22 feet you need to park it on the US side of the border and walk across do do your paperwork and if you need to get a 10 year permit for your RV, well it gets complicated.

Still getting things done here and there inside the house. We are very very close to being done. We finally got towel bars and had them installed yesterday. It is great having them up but I have already decided I need to space them differently. You read that right, a make work project. I wasn't ready to put them up and suddenly a decision had to be made right now and I made the wrong decision. So move 3 towel bars and repaint two walls.

This flock of geese arrived the day before the temperatures lowered and the snow fell. I believe they were just passing through from further North but they aren't leaving. They have spent the last few days doing very low flights over the lake, just barely above the water. I know they aren't local because if you walk towards the lake they move away, not use to people.
The hills have a light coating of snow and it is cold outside but we are hovering at 0C at night with highs to 6C (41F). Tolerable!

I went to Walmart yesterday and invested $3.00 for 3 pairs of socks. Now my toes are warm. I also bought more tinned goods to load into the RV, stuff we can't get in Mexico, that is if we get there 🙁

Colin's Mom bought us a treat. She made the effort to find us tomatoes grown in Mexico. Must have cost her a pretty penny. She is very sweet.

While waiting for a worker to come do some outside work yesterday afternoon Colin decided to start putting some of our summer stuff under the house. Colin worked for over 3 hours but the other guy never showed up!! After all that work in the cold I made sure he had a good dinner, yummy acorn squash and tuna pot pie, a good fall meal.

While the fellow was working on the bedrooms blinds last Monday I had moved all the bed cushions out of the way and just piled them. Later when looking for Carmeh I found her nestled in all the cushions. All those papers on the table are for me to deal with. That was Monday and now today Friday they are still sitting there.

Well it has been an interesting few days. Colin got back safely from his visit to his Mom in Winnipeg Monday night. Us girls were sure happy to see him.

Never enough time but he was happy to see how much improved she was since the last visit. She had a change in medication which really helped perk her up. I think too many MD's give out too much medication with little or no follow up to the side effects. Mommio lives on her own in a seniors complex but buys and cooks her own meals.

Her and Colin love to have fun together. By the way thanks for all the comments on how well Mommio looks. She doesn't do computers but I think I will print out yesterdays' post and the comments and mail it to her. It will make her day. Not sure I want to see how I will look at 98. I bet Colin will look much the same as he is now.
Tuesday morning it was much warmer, only 0C. But Mother Nature gave us a surprise.

Yes that is snow up there among the low hanging cloud. We have been told that it is very dull to live here in the winter with all the low cloud. I may just find out about that.

The trades that are coming in now are mainly doing repairs and touch ups. This fellow was trying to make our double hung windows easier for me to open and close. They are not perfect but much better so I guess that after 3 months and 4 visits this is the best we are going to get. It seems quite normal now to spend your working time on the phone taking other calls!!

For you Americans that is 19F!! Yup it's cold out there and not so warm inside either and it is only October 22nd. We sleep with the heat off so it takes a while to warm things up in the morning. I know we could program our furnace but we never know what time we are going to get up, sometimes it is early and sometimes we sleep in.

Frost not only on the grass but also the lawn chairs!!
Fortunately today is going to be sunny and so about 8:15AM the sun came over the hill and started to help with the heating process. Love those windows but I did close all the blinds last night to help keep the heat in and it was only about 55F in here at 7:30AM. Just hate putting the blinds down but I guess that will be a winter thing. We normally have just left them open as no one can see inside unless they are out on the lake.
Colin is having a great visit with his Mom in Winnipeg. He gets back here tonight about 7:45PM if the plane is on time. So now I have a dilemma. Do I forgo my wino so I can pick him up at the airport?? There is also a 60% chance of rain/snow flurries tonight and I don't drive well in the dark at the best of times.

Hard to believe Colin's Mom, whom I call Mommio, is going to 98 in a few days.

Dinner in Winnipeg with Mommio and Colin's brother Bill and sister in law Gloria.
It is clear out and there is definitely snow on the mountain but the angle of the sun does not allow for me to get the shot. Maybe later. I have to rush off and prepare for my trades guy of the day. Oh yes, they are still on the scene but much less often. Today may be problematic. Tune in tomorrow.
