Stay or GO?

The past 24 hours have been extremely unsettling.  The circumstances that kept us here till mid November have reared their ugly heads once again.  It was totally unexpected and threw me for a loop.  We regrouped and we are leaving today!!  Soon I hope!!

Something also was wrong with the brakes on the toad and we had to take it in at 7:30AM yesterday hoping the problem could be rectified without ordering parts from Vancouver.  What ever the problem was, it was fixed and for just under $100.00.

Still having moisture problems in the basement, water seeping in.

A few days ago Colin used this can of Mexican spray foam and nothing came out so he left the can under the house. When he went back with a new can this is what he found from the Mexican can. Things happen at a slower pace in Mexico!! Now I have a piece of Mexican art!

Lots of things didn't happen, the hedge never got cut, the house never got cleaned and I never collected all the monies owing the company.  My root canal was completed successfully and with no pain, that was a bonus.  Good news from Mexico is that the road is being specially cleared so we don't scratch the paint on our RV.  Remember the road from last November!!

Then late yesterday afternoon on his way to do the final mail check Colin lost the mail key down the heat vent of the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He called the dealer who said it has happened to many and one person lost a diamond ring that way.  It is a 5 hour service to get the key out.  About 10PM last night we found a duplicate mail key!!  Thank goodness.

Tying down the cover on the golf cart in the dark!

So right now we are in the final packing stages.  I had no idea we had taken so much out of the RV.  We lost several packing hours yesterday due to the circumstances and are pushing this morning.

Colin is down in the hole and the fellas are trying to get the lines blown out. The builder actually came to make sure it was done right. We have no idea how cold it will get on the lake so we are doing more than we have in the past, even adding antifreeze.

Small problem, the water softener was hard piped in and we can't undo it to bring it inside so it doesn't freeze!!!!  Waiting for a call back.  Now Colin has to take it apart a different way.  This house is more complicated that the other one. Next year we will have a system in place.

The girls know something is up and they are sticking together.

We knew we would face challenges this morning so have no set plans to leave by a certain time.  I also planned that we would only travel about 250 miles today.

I have got my Verizon internet stick activated so I will be able to check in with you all later tonight from the USA!

Que Pasa!

~ last 5 loads of laundry done!!

~dogs bathed. Tick medication applied.

~Christmas cards done!

~all Colin Jewall Photo Studios Inc. business completed till end of April 2013 except for money collection.  Working on that this morning.

What a relief that this is all done. Still have filing to do but it can wait till April, except in April I will be upset I had not done it in Nov.

~part 3 of my root canal at 7:50AM today!  Hmmm, not sure how those socks & open toe sandals will manage.

~medical appointment in the afternoon.

~the good news is that the route we take looks good right thru to the Mexican border. If we get out of here that is!

~never did get the hedge cut this fall.  Have to wait.

Had to try a new hairdresser over the weekend as mine went back to school end of August. Can you imagine standing on your feet in these all day???

Thanks Margot & Ken! I got your bag of Mexican coins. Do you want me to give them to an orphanage or the Red Cross?

~in order to leave early this morning Colin had to clean off the car and unload the contents into the RV in the dark late Sunday night!

We don't even have a snow shovel! Yes he is wearing shorts!

The shorts are because he is too hot in the house when I am just barely warm 🙂 He had to clear the snow so the girls could do their business.

~as of 7:00AM this morning we have a high of 2C and the snow is very slowly starting to melt.  I am going to ignore the part of the forecast that calls for 30% change of snow later today 😉

WINTER WONDERLAND

So it happened.  We are covered in a blanket of snow and at 9:45AM it is still snowing.  It started about 4:20PM yesterday….

We had friends in for appies and had a great visit and of course the time passed too quickly. Interesting how everyone prefers to sit at the bar instead of the living room.

Beautiful to look at but.....

On checking the RV Colin discovered we had frozen taps with icicles, on the inside that is.  It was only -3C while the snow fell but the night before it had been -9C and I guess the coach never had a chance to warm up during the day.  He put a few heaters on and all is well.  Too late now to winterize the RV.

The snow fell all night.

I asked Colin why the bikes were still outside, he said he "never saw them"!!! This set will stay here and we are bringing an older set to Mexico this year.

It was a struggle to get the girls to go out this morning. The ducks don't seem concerned.

Colin had to carry them out and Carmeh was in a huge rush to get back inside.

Caeli was a bit more courageous but did not like the snow under her tummy.

So here we sit waiting for the snow to stop falling and to melt. There is no way I am going over to the RV to work today. Lots to keep me occupied here.

This is the first time in the nine years that we have lived here that we have experienced this.  We should be sitting on our beach on the Isla!!  Our friends who are already down there are training the waiters from the hotel next door to serve them drinks on the playa.  Only three more sleeps till we leave but the question is, will we be able to?

Over 4000 kms or 2500 miles to go......

Remembrance Day

Written during the First World War by Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae.  I believe that all Canadian students learnt this while in grade school.

Today is also my brothers' birthday.  He will always have a holiday on his birthday.

Brrr, -9C this morning.  Forecast, 2cm snow beginning this evening.

Change in the weather, snow!

We actually had the white stuff falling yesterday.  Just little flakes but it was snow and we are here!!  So to me that is a big thing.  Nothing accumulated on the ground but the surrounding hills are wearing a white blanket today.  It was -5C yesterday morning and it is -6 this morning and the forecast for tonight is -8C and likely to be lower with the wind chill.  Time to start thinking about freezing RV pipes and house pipes.   We have never ever winterized the RV and we do winterize the house but not till the day before we leave.   Lets see what today brings.

Brrr....

Collecting a few things including BBQ tools for packing! Yes he is wearing long pants, a sweater and a Gortex winter jacket!

The ice on the rain chain tells its own beautiful story.

While the road report tells a different tale.

Yesterday the forecast showed sun but it has changed 🙁

Today is our major packing and organizing day.  Only 5 more sleeps.
