Last full day

Friday was my sister's last full day with us and we let her choose her activities.

Back to the fish market just across the shipping channel. That pelican just happened to fly into the shot.

That is our dinner being carved out of the huge dorado!

Lise did ask his permission for the photo. He was coming to work on the Isla.

Meanwhile I made a pancake breakfast.

Lise kept mentioning seeing the other side of the island in front of us so Colin arranged that.

Not only did they circle the island where the driver pointed out out the face of Jesus in the rocks they were given a tour of the bay. Certainly worth every peso!

Sister time......

....the last margarita!

We picked the perfect night to have drinks at the Maria Coral. Not only were the margaritas great, they were 2 for 1 and we had the most spectacular sunset.

Was this Lise's policeman looking for her?

The perfect sunset as presented to us my Mother Nature. Thanks to Colin for creating the panoramic view. The clouds are sensational.

Yesterday morning after check in and breakfast at the airport……

...we said the final adios!!

Lise got home last night with no problems or incidents.  I just had to call and check on her.  We did see her plane fly over our beach and gave the very very final wave.  Poor Carmeh was upset when we came back the airport without her aunty.  She actually had to go into the car and check.  She went back and forth a few times and finally settled down.  Caeli meanwhile had been sick yet again Friday night but did seem a bit better when we got back from the airport yesterday.  We fed her a tiny amount of rice and scrambled egg every 2 hours ( I had no chicken and figured the egg was close enough ) till bed time and today she seems back to normal.  Yesterday Colin and I just relaxed and today we are getting back into a routine.

4 cats = sick dog = bigger mess

Thank goodness Chiquito takes care of himself. Yesterday he started taking his own bath.

Lise can take care of herself also although yesterday we had to send out a search party. She had gone for a long walk mid day along the beach without drinking water. After 90 minutes we sent a friend out on an ATV to make sure she was alright. She was, just busy communing with nature.

...another restaurant, another margarita...

She had wanted a meal on a local beach restaurant so we found the action. You could pay to have these critters sit on your shoulder.

Instead my sister just got right into the action and wove her own tales. She is really picking up the language.

Wandering back home we came upon Filomena whom I had wanted Lise to meet. I have known this beach vendor for four winters and support her as much as I can.

Lots of beach activity.

That was almost the end of our activities yesterday until Caeli decided to get sick to her stomach….big time!  A few hours later Lise found 4 cats in our yard which of course Caeli had to go out and chase.  Caeli came out from under our bougainvillea hedge eating something.  Colin mentioned he had seen her do the same thing earlier in the afternoon.  I figured whatever she ate made her ill and of course at 2:30AM she was sick all over our bed, once again.  So what did she eat?  Was it a dead mouse?  Was it something the cats had stored in our yard?  We will never know but it will not happen again.  That area of the yard has been fenced off to dogs but how are we going to keep the cats away?  There are hundreds of feral cats living around here.  Any ideas?

1 cat + 2 dogs = big mess

We really had hoped to ease into the New Year but twas not to be.  We let Caeli out first thing to do her business and she immediately started barking hysterically  ( yes dogs can bark that way ).  Of course Carmeh had to check her out and whatever the crisis was.  There was a cat under the front of the RV.  It was stuck up under the generator. Colin crawled under but could not get the cat out.  Caeli was screeching the entire time and trying to get at the cat.  Suddenly the cat moved to the rear and around the engine, both the girls followed.  They made every effort to crawl and and get the cat.  Colin  finally got the back end open and hosed the cat out and our of the yard.  Meanwhile the girls came out from under and were covered in grease!!!  No photos as we were panicking.  The girls were sprayed with pure Simple Green and wiped with paper towels over and over.  Finally we bathed them with shampoo.  What a mess, what a waste of the first morning of the new year!  We even missed the Polar Bear dip.  I still see some grease on Caeli's nose.

It wasn't a sunny day, even a bit chilly but we had a good afternoon regardless.

Over a bottle of champagne we taught Lise how to play Mexican Train.

More wine, more snacks and a pot of chili then a call to Mom & Dad!

I think we watched a movie, well I really didn't, Carmeh was more awake than me.

After a quiet morning yesterday enjoying the sun and the company of visitors we went into Centro to give Lise a tour of the mercado.

It was late in the afternoon and fairly quiet. Lots to see but she is not a shopper! I got another dress.

We walked passed the Cathedral on the way to a late lunch. It did not open till 4PM so we did not get to show her inside.

Colin & Lise paid a visit to the Angela Peralta Theater for a tour while I kept this bench busy.

The highlight of the day.......margaritas and lunch.

The late afternoon light reflected nicely off these boats.

Some of the vendors heading back to Mazatlan from the Isla.

It was a quiet evening at home, each doing our own thing.  Lise is running out of time, only two more full days.  The sun is shining, time to get out there.

Feliz Ano Nuevo

After a busy few days we just spent the 31st relaxing and getting ready for the celebration. It had rained much of the night of the 30th and was rather damp and chilly for Mazatlan.  We only got up to the mid 70's.

Finally got dressed and ready to head into Mazatlan.

We walked around a bit and watched the preparations unfold. We chose not to go to a party or a restaurant requiring reservations. We wanted to enjoy the beauty and people of Mazatlan walking about the Plazuela Machado. We found a seat right in the middle of it all and had a variety of tasty dishes from guacamole, to tacos to a special shrimp plate with lots and lots of garlic!

Had we stayed till midnight we would have enjoyed the dancing and music but with the zoo at home we headed back to the Isla.  We were treated to lots of music from a variety of fiestas all around us.  The many fireworks were not appreciated by the dogs.  Lise and I were in bed by midnight but Colin stayed up and brought in the New Year on the beach.  He could see fireworks from the golden Zone to right here on the Isla.

Busy day in Mazatlan…

Colin forced us to be ready to leave at 9:15AM!!!!! We did leave by 9:45AM. To get to Mazatlan you take a small water taxi across the shipping channel.

First stop a tour of the fish market located on the Mazatlan side of the Isla de la Piedra Embarcadero.

Cute, eh!!

Did Santa leave his sleigh here?

Finally, coffee!! Brunch at Pancho's in the Golden Zone! Lise was adventurous in her meal choice!! Good going sis!

Followed by some local shopping! Colin & I loved this doxie done in abalone shell but where to put it? Plus the price of 4500 pesos ( 344.00 CAD ) ?????? Perhaps it will still be there in a few months!

...and further down the street another shopping spree! Lise got 2 dresses.

By then we were thirsty, stopped in here for a very good margarita.

Time to get back to the Isla. However Lise makes such an impression on Jorge our pulmonia driver that for another 120 pesos he gives us a city tour.

He even wanted her to drive...hmmmm!

Great tour. Great views.

Managed to catch the cliff divers among other things......

....pointed out to us by Jorge but why!

Love the Ferrari in the driveway, tons of angels all around this house. More to the right but no more space.....

...party on the boat home, these folks from Guadalajara and on the panga over to la Isla for dinner. Colin took all their photos once they found our he had photograped Princess Diana, the Pope, President Clinton and my sister Lise.

That folks was the end of our day in town.  Back on the Isla we just relaxed.  Tomorrow is New Years Eve………what next?
