A slow Tuesday!

Still waiting for some action here on the Isla for the holidays.  Meanwhile on the advice of everyone here, we headed into Mazatlan to do all of our final errands.  The streets on the Isla are suppose to become impassable.  We shall see.  So we picked up some queso and romaine and a bit of fruit from the mercado and I picked up 2 more sundresses.  I also got all my new and repaired things from my wonderful seamstress Carmen.  Things are busier here on Stone Island, the restaurants are busy and our two fruit & veggie guys are selling out before they get here!

We are very very slowly getting organized for the trip North. I found a bottle of Copper Moon PInot Grigio, our most favorite wine in the Okanagan. We almost buy it by the case in Kelowna. So yesterday when we opened the wine and took our first sip, we stopped and looked at each other!!! It seems that the Oak Leaf purchased at Walmart is just as good. Who knew! Too bad Walmart doesn't sell wine in Canada.

At about 8:00PM ( the time if wrong on the monitor ) the temperature outside is 72F and inside it is 79F.

Sadly the girls and I are feeling the chill. Colin thinks we are poco loco.

It must be getting busier, the taxi trucks from the embarcadero to the beach are really full!

Colin's new favorite spot on the Isla. Rosario ( on the right ) is selling mens shirts for 50 -70 pesos including silk shirts and brands such as Tommie Hilfiger. We have no idea where she gets these shirts but she is selling them for Semana Santa. So far Colin has purchased 7 but he isn't done yet!

Everyone wants to make a few pesos this week. I think this fella has a future in marketing.

It was a good day for this beach vendor when he stopped at this families table.

Thanks for buying it for me Mom!

I just need a shovel and some sand.

Finally everyone goes home or to a hotel and the Isla gets to relax.

What happened Monday ?

We were suppose to have a massage today but Casa Maria had a wee cold so no go!!  So Colin decided to take the girls into our Mazatlan vet to get their anal glands expressed, much much cheaper than in Canada.

I stayed here and he took the girls in on his own. Carmeh escaped and ran up and down the panga!

Fortunately our amiga Mary was on the same panga and took over the care of Caeli.

Seems that the pulmonia ride was a bit breezy. Love that hair do Colin!!!

So while they were away I spent the majority of the day at the computer.  We usually order a bunch of stuff ( dog things, certain cleaning products, shoes, who knows what ) from this end to pick up in the US on our way home and we do the reverse in the spring.  Dog food is the one big thing we order as we save mucho mas pesos that way.

Somehow between leaving here and coming back on this panga Colin lost Caeli's pink diamond collar and dusty rose leash! He said it must have fallen out of his pocket.

Here on the Isla we tend to let our girls go naked….no collars or leashes.  For as long as we have had doxies, always two girls, we have had pink and green.  Well you can’t get those colours anymore so I ordered something close.  We shall see what it looks like a a few weeks.  I am having all my purchases sent to an RV park in Winterhaven, California.  We are there only the one night so I have to be sure I order things not too far ahead but not too late either.

Not much change on the beach today.  However the word on the Isla is ‘watch out’.  Lots of people are coming.  We have had 2 more RV’s arrive in the last 24 hours.  Front row in RV1 is 2/3 full.  The B.C. couple who came in today ( from Melaque ) mentioned they noticed many Nationals on the road.  We also have a Mexican in a Class C from Durango.  He did use the new road for as much as he could and saved 1.5 hours driving time.  There  are only 3 toll booths open.

The weather continues to be perfect.  Life is great.

The countdown is on!

We leave in exactly 14 days.!  SIGH!!

But in the meantime we are having a fabulous time.  As I had mentioned before, we really had wanted to experience Semana Santa and we are.  Yesterday, Sunday, had to be described as a perfect day.

With the extreme tides, there was lots of beach for the girls to roam.

That crab was just waiting for them.

The flying nun????

Caeli swimming out to find the crab Colin had thrown into the ocean. Then she was overtaken by a wave but she handled it just fine.

This family showed up at 7:30AM and began to construct a structure....

They were selling cocos plus water in a bag with a straw plus fruit in a cup, Good for them. They did sit there all day and made very few sales. Everyone says that the masses of people are still coming. However this family had fun from Grampa down to the very very young baby.

I spent the entire day out on the patio enjoying the action. This is one of my favorite sections of my flowers. I believe this hibiscus plant is going to be a tree.

I watched this cabellero ( cowboy ) carefully place his charges before taking their photo. Good for him.

Sunset and our coco family is leaving for the day.

Shortly thereafter this white car came down to beach on the road right beside us, turned left and got stuck!! First Mel, a local in an ATV tried to get them out but no luck. The Ernie came along in his Jeep. Not an easy task.

Ernie got them out but the driver couldn't get himself up the road. He kept turning his tires the wrong way. As you can see the tide was coming in and getting higher wave after wave. Finally a local Mexican got in the car....

...he gunned it and got them out and up the road. Good job!!

Never ever a dull moment here on the Isla.  Today of course has been jam packed which is why this post is a tad late.

6:00AM SATURDAY!

Crash!!

Pound!!!

Slap!!!  Slap?

That was enough to get me out of bed!  High tide very early  ( well for me ) Saturday morning!

That was the surf slapping at our wall. I have never seen the waves crash so high up here on the Isla ever before.

Apparently nor had many others.  Yes it was a high tide but someone mentioned a storm surge.  We have no idea if it was.  Look at the log in the above photo, already before high tide it has been pushed closer to our wall.  If you look at yesterdays photos you will see where it sat at high tide at sunset, where it has been for many months until now.

These photos were shot from the front window, no way was I going out at 6:15AM.

But the surfers were out, just heading south towards the front of RV2 where the waves were even higher.  Noreste, the Mazatlan newspaper got here about 7:20AM to get some shots but the waves were a tad lower.

What happened to the beach Caeli wonders? You can see how far that log was moved. It use to be beside that tall piece of driftwood. Sadly many of the stick palapas built for Semana Santa were destroyed in the wave surges.

These two kayakers were very brave.

Very high waves the further down the beach you walked. Can you see the surfers at the bottom of the wave?

This one had a good ride.

Our beach was eroded, giving it an interesting scalloped effect.

I was expecting many more beach goers.  For the first day of the holiday there were very few people.  Hopefully more will still be coming.  Someone told me that the Isla gets over 5000 people per day during this time of year!!

These brave souls really wanted their 50 peso banana boat ride. They tried 3 times before they got underway. There is one fellow trying to get the banana boat out, he is pushing it from behind.

In the end it took this entire group of people to get the banana boat up and over the crest of the waves....

They crashed and overturned three times before finally hooking up with the speed boat. I would say that they got their pesos worth!

While I enjoyed the beach Saturday, Colin was in Mazatlan having breakfast with Rodolfo Perez, another maestro from Culican.  Rodolfo has just recorded a CD and wanted Colin to take his photo with his guitar for the CD cover.  So he drove here to meet up with Colin.

They never got back to the Isla until about 3:30PM and promptly started checking out the photo shots.

Meanwhile I was back watching the beach action. Seems like the military are patrolling the beaches for Semana Santa including the Marines. To the left and middle of the photo in the navy shirt is a marine carrying a thick baton, the guy in the middle is carrying flippers and the fellow on the end had a life preserver! The female marine who is also carrying a baton but smaller and in white followed the three men from several feet behind. Well at least they have female marines!

Once the photo session was over the music lesson resumed. It seems that while waiting for the light to change for a specific photo pose, a guitar lesson took place in Mazatlan at Macaws Restaurant much to the delight of the other patrons.

The music didn't wind down till almost 5:30PM. Rodolfo had to still drive back to Culiacan. Adios amigo. Colin drove him back to the Isla embarcadero where he actually had to wait for a panga, there was a bit of a line. Fortunately he had been able to leave his car on the Mazatalan side of the channel at the embarcadero.

The only sad thing is that I had been promised dinner and margaritas out at an Isla restaurant but music and photography took up all the time.  I may be reduced to making myself my own margarita later today!  Yesterday was a long day but so very much fun!

Que Pasa?

Thursday we went for a delicious late lunch/ early dinner here on the Isla at El Velero . The meal was delicious as was the rest of the evening. We came back to our wee casa and talked and talked and we even broke out the champagne.

About 9:30PM an RV pulls in.  They had no idea that there was an RV park down the road.

This is a 1966 Airstream.

This couple have been on the road for three months, from San Francisco right to the tip of Panama.  Nine countries in 3 months.  They boondocked most of the way and as David said he has a nose for finding the perfect spot.  So how did they found us?  Well they just followed a road that looked promising…in the dark!!

David, Jennifer and Tasmin. A wonderful couple who were only here a few hours. They were catching the Baja Ferry to Cabo on Friday afternoon. We sure hope to meet up with them another day.

After a brief visit with them Colin and I headed into Mazatlan.  We had a plan.

Well most important of all is that we got some money!!  Woohoo!  The ATM fed us.  HSBC Banco of course.  Now that we had pesos it was time to shop.

One of my ( not so much Colin ) favorite places in the Golden Zone is Michaels Gallery. You can buy just about any treasure you are looking for. We actually spotted some vases and a lovely painting that would look great in our new home but we decided to finish the house first before adding accessories. There will always be next year.

Spotted this pulmonia all dressed up for Easter.

We then headed to Mega, a very large store that has almost everything you might need. This is only our second visit this season as we usually can get what we need on the Isla. Because I was looking I even found gluten free crackers, cereal, pasta and TVP.

By then we were ( well I was ) tired. We filled the back of the pulmonia, the front seat and had other bags beside us. Not sure how we ended up with so much stuff. We actually had to tip a boy to help us carry it onto the panga. I might need to go back and get more pesos before we leave!

Just about sunset we noticed the waves coming in and how high the tide was.

The surfers were in their element.

Those waves are splashing over our log just out front. I wonder how high it is going to go?

Check in for Saturday’s events Sunday!  Semana Santa, high tides, who knows what will happen………
