Change and yet more change

I decided late Friday night that I would fly to Edmonton on Monday morning and join my parents at their appointment with their family Doctor.  They are both actually seeing this Dr. at the same time  so not only will Mom’s recent problems be reviewed but Dad’s also.  As some of you may know I do have a nursing degree in my background so this may come in handy.  Dad likes to call me Dr. Bossy!  So I have cancelled my leg veins for Monday and Tuesday and that just might be it until 2014.  Just way too much on my plate.

Both my parents are fiercely independent and will never go into a home.  They live in a lovely condo overlooking the Edmonton river valley.  A few years ago I was instrumental in arranging for daily home care visits.  These visits have increased to several visits per day in the last few years.  For a while Mom was Dad’s caregiver and now he is hers.  It really is not a great situation but they have managed very very well.  Until now that is.

Plus yesterday Mom fell and than again at midnight while in the bathroom she fell again. This time she hit her head and fell on her back.  She did not want him to call 911 so he tried for an hour to lift her off the floor himself.  Of course he could not and likely almost suffered a heart attack in his attempt.  Dad…please please please call 911 and someone will be sent to help you.  Meanwhile finally at 1:00AM he called my sister who came to assist.  Despite head and back issues Mom would not go to the hospital.  Then just this morning there was another incident of another sort.  All I can is is that is was not good!

So I am booked to go Monday and will have to return back to Kelowna Tuesday evening.  I have a few personal medical appointments to deal with on Wednesday and on Thursday.  I am not ashamed to say that I have requested wheelchair service at the airport.  I think it will really be of value to me.

I am sad to have to cancel my visits with my Edmonton friends in June and I will have no time so see them this trip.  But….I have a feeling I may be back in Edmonton before long.

It’s all up in the air !

I had a reservation to go see my family in June but cancelled it today.

My mom got back from the hospital late last night and the bottom line diagnosis is that “she is a mess”.  When I specifically asked questions, both Mom and Dad were very vague.  When I asked ‘what is next’ they did not know.  The only thing Mom could say is that any surgery would kill her or so said the MD in ER plus he is the one who said she was a mess.

So do I go or stay?  They are seeing their family Dr. on Monday.  I may wait and see how that goes.  Meanwhile I am going to try and make an appt. to have a telephone conversation with their MD.  I do have three personal medical appts between now and May 28th, one of which I have been waiting for, for over a year so I can’t just rush away.  Things always look better in the morning. So I will decide my plan of action then.

I did not know that Colin had taken this shot of us relaxing a few days ago. I was just going thru the camera right now to see what I had for you all. Looks just the same right now except Colin is working. However, I do have the glass of vino at my side.

I met this family the other day after my vein injection walk. FYI, the rash I started yesterday calmed right down. Maybe I have another food allery? Can you see the 3rd baby between Mom's feet?

This was at the egg addling area I had previously walked at, so I was very happy to see that these had survived.

Saw this guy out on the lake yesterday. Pretty fancy for Duck Lake. Maybe he was just practicing for another lake. He had 3 lines out.

Yesterday, Yves from Fibre New came to touch up the many marks and scatches on my leather desk chair. It looks just like new. A great deal for $70.00. Not sure if you can see but Colin sits on a ball chair. FYI that is our infrared sauna on the left.

Our window seat cushion is finished. It looks great and blends in perfectly in our new home plus Carmeh has claimed it for herself. The eight dining room chairs have also been redone and look perfect. The fellow forgot to make the toss cushions but no rush. Colin and I certainly chose the right fabric while in Mazatlan. Cost $24.00 CAD.

Hasta manana!

Just waiting….

Not a great day today.

Oh the weather is practically perfect with a high of 30C.  But it is too hot for me with these heavy compression stockings on my legs.  They go from my toes to the tops of my thighs and no matter how light of a sun dress I put on I am still uncomfortable.  I am waiting for these stockings to come off.

I am also waiting to see if my new rash as of this morning will develop into hives, yet again!  Yes the rash came back.  Again it was 48 hours after the first vein treatment.  I guess I am waiting to see what the Dr. will say.  Worse case is that she will cancel my final vein injections due next Monday and Tuesday.  In that case I can take my stockings off!!  Sigh!  It is not suppose to be this hot here this early in the season, but it is what it is.

Most importantly I am waiting to hear from my family in Edmonton.  My Mom was taken to hospital by ambulance early this morning.  Dad said she just wasn’t doing well when he woke her up and kept rolling her eyes back in her head!!  There is something happening in Edmonton, Dad was not too clear.  But is seems that most of the Emergency Departments in the hospitals across the city are not taking any patients as the hospitals are full.  Apparently Mom sat ( likely she was lying on the ambulance gurney ) until 1230 noon today before she was admitted into a bed in the ER at the University Hospital.  Still no news.

…so I am just waiting!

Just stuff

Last week I got this email…

Immediately Donald Trump's tune " Money, money mooneeeey" started to play in my head.

When I clicked on this I began to wonder....

That is a limited number of banking institutions, no credit unions which is what we use.  Plus it was using our old email address.  So I called my bank.  After several hours of checking they determined that it was a fraud attempt to get our banking info…… so be careful out there.

Then this idiot drives past!

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against these machines.  In fact I even used one once in the ocean in Florida and loved it ( before RV ).  But truly there is a time and place.  This is called Duck Lake for a reason.  There are no power boats on this lake other than the few grandfathered in with the ski jump group.  It is meant as a refuge for wildlife and is perfect for canoeing and kayaking.

Look how close he is to the shore plus he just went passed our wildlife nesting island. I sure heard lots of noise from the critters protesting this interruption.

Meanwhile with the high temperatures our new house is maintaining really well.  In our old house we would have the air on and a few floor fans.  Right now it is 28C ( 82F ) outside and we are only 87F inside.  I never turn the RV A/C on until it reaches 88- 89F.

I think that the spray foam insulation we put in along the south and west walls is paying off!

Here is the confirmation that someone was on the roof the other day….

...not Santa Claus but 2 geese. Thanks Robert!

So far so good…..I had my veins injected yesterday and this morning but so far no rash or hives.  But let me tell you wearing these stockings at 87F is no fun.

My roof, my roof!!!

Is that you Santa Claus??

Since we have been back we have discovered two inside leaks.  One was a leak from the ceiling down along the fireplace.  Not huge at all but a tiny drip, drip.  We called in our fireplace installer who added tons more caulking up on the roof.  He said he had no idea we had such high winds off the lake and that the rain could fly in sideways.

The next day we found the sunroom ceiling joining onto the house ceiling was leaking 🙁  This is much more serious.  If you remember, the company that installed our glass sunroom folded after the owner passed away a few months ago.  So we are now responsible for any problems.

Colin had found the problem but asked Robert on up for a second opinion. Can my roof withhold both of those guys? It sure did.

It seems that the seam that joins the two roofs has a wee bit of a problem and if the rain is hard and the wind is strong and coming from just the right direction it can get right between the layers of the seam.  Colin came up with a repair plan that would have worked perfectly.  But Robert came up with an even better solution that will take less time and cost much less. He suggested using a self levelling lap sealant.  Many many thanks Robert!

Just when I thought the roof was in good shape, early the next morning I heard a thud, followed by an even louder second thud.

Is that you Santa Claus?

Then I heard this deafening noise.   Haaannnhhh!  It was not one but two geese up on the roof.  Caeli who was still asleep ran outside to chase them away but she could not see the geese.

Suddenly the first flew away and I was barely able to capture the second one taking off. Peace at last!

Well not exactly true as we hear them and the ducks all day long but really we love it.  Wish I could have got a shot of the eagle that soared part the window so close and so low but I did capture the moment in my mind.
