Tea versus Coffee

Which do you prefer?

Now that I am off coffee ( for only a wee while I hope ) I am finding herbal tea not so bad.  It use to me me sick at the stomach before.  Do you think I could get away with decaf coffee?

We are in the midst of 1.5 days of heavy rain and I will have to brave the elements to go buy some tea.  We have even had a severe rainfall warning posted.  One of our neighbours is sand bagging his home as the rain is running down the street right into his property. The good news it that our roof is in perfect condition and not a drop of water under the house. Thank you,  Black Mountain Sunrooms.  One thing we don’t have to worry about right now is watering the new tree or the flower pots.  Hmm, do you think a tree can get too much water.  Likely as then the roots will rot.

I would like you to meet Colin’s ( no not mine ) banana tree.

We picked it up from the nursery in early May and the girls barely had space in the back of the car.

Once home it fit into the corner very nicely and seemed to add the perfect amount of greenery.

It is growing like a weed. We have had to shove the bench in so the tree has more space to spread out.

It is definitely giving us the greenery.

We do have the option of returning the tree to the nursery and paying them to look after it during the winter.  It is a great idea but we said no.  It is not the cost of wintering the tree in the nursery but more the fact that it will be even bigger.  No , Colin says he will just buy a new one next May.

Tuesday was yet another busy day.

We have had rain showers, lightening and lots of thunder the past few days.

Still trying to get the list crossed off bit by bit.

That includes bathing all the girls.

Tuesday we had to go to pick up all those special things one needs for surgery. I don't look happy do I?

The red bracelet on my right wrist is to ID a possible blood transfusion during or after surgery.  That itchy irritating thing is with me until I leave the hospital.

Locally we go the the Red Cross to pick up things like raised toilet seats, bed railing frames, a bath seat, crutches, walkers, etc.  You get a request from your MD and then they loan you whatever it is that you need for 3 months at no charge.  Of course they do hope for a donation when you return your items.  Do they have such a program in the US?

So I am in the midst of an huge allergic reaction.  I have been looking for a specific coffee maker for along while but it seem to be only available in the US and they don’t ship to Canada.

So we compromised while out yesterday and bought this one at 50% off.

…then the bells started to ring!  I didn’t drink coffee for years but started last August once again and all of last winter.  BINGO!!  Might that be the cause of my allergic reactions which seem to get worse as the day progresses.  So we looked up coffee allergies online and were shocked to find how very serious it is and that I seem to meet the symptoms.  This is an excellent article but how do I know if it is my problem?  My reaction was so bad that I had to start in on my antihistamines.  but was it the coffee or the strawberries I have had every day for 2 weeks???  So now I am off coffee and in a few days will check out if I have a coffee reaction.  Way to stressful for me to deal with right now.

The countdown is on…

…only 9 nine more sleeps before surgery day and only 7 of them in my own bed!???!!!

So Jon has acknowledged his win of ‘the guess the object’ contest.  He said in a comment on yesterdays’ post that he might have cheated as he is a collision repair shop assistant manager.  I have no idea where he lives but it looks like he will be claiming his prize in Mazatlan, one day.  Jon the prize has no expiry date.  How cool is that that you actually lived and worked in Mazatlan.  Please have your parents email me if they have any questions about Rving into Mexico.

Speaking of Mazatlan there is a new fish restaurant in town called F.I.S.H. and is being hailed as the return of “the grand dame of Mazatlán dining.” Yes, Sarah Emerson along with her son, Gabriel Ocampo.  Click here for details.  We can hardly wait to check it out in November.

Now speaking of fish I first heard about barbecuing tuna loins at Weight Watchers a few weeks ago.  Sure enough I found them at a local grocer and they were even B.C. Albacore Tuna Loins.  Once unthawed on Sunday, I marinated it in olive oil and soy sauce for a few hours and in our excitement with this new meal we neglected to take photos until the meal was plated.

I read online that you have to be very careful to not overcook this fish. It was the best ever and melted in our mouth. Tonight I will use the left over tuna in fish tacos.

I am very slowly getting our business in order and prepaying everything until mid July. It was so hot and humid due to impending thunder storms that I had a fan on my desk.

I had to tear myself away from work late Monday afternoon as our new Isla neighbors were coming to tea wine that is.  Last December we had a visit at our home on Stone Island .  This couple just walked up off the beach and started talking ( and talking ) about RVing in Mexico.  After a bit we discovered that they had just sold their home in West Kelowna and moved into an RV and moved into Holiday Park Resort where we live in the summer.  Since meeting us they have purchased a lot here in the RV Park and decorated it in a wonderful Mexican theme….note to self….take photos for future blog.  They truly love it here.  Not only that, they have booked the site right next door to us at Tres Amigos RV Park on the Isla.

So of course we had to get together to answer their questions and give some suggestions, etc.  We had a wonderful visit with them and I think I can safely say that the 4 of us will be perfect neighbors come December.  Having read my blog they know all there is to know about the Isla.  Heck they are already collecting things to bring for those in need.

So sorry..not a great photo, but I have months and months to improve and to feature you in the blog.

John says ” this is the first time I can hardly wait for winter to get here ! ”

…and remember dear readers……..one good turn …gets most of the blankets 🙂

The Morning After….

…the working weekend that is!  Actually it is end of day, the Monday after the weekend.

First off I have to send a special thank you out to George who took the time out to research how we could change our HHR broken door handle on our own and save mucho pesos.  George you rock for finding this site.

Also a shout out to Jon who has yet to claim his prize for identifying the object in the photo.

Colin found some time over the weekend to pluck a few strings.

It is not easy to find free time when we work such long hours and Colin works 3/4 of each day.

It looks like Carmeh is happy to be hearing those great guitar sounds.

We took a few hours off Saturday morning to check out the flea market happening here in the park. I got a new, never used before Cuisinart coffee grinder for $5.00 and Colin got a small and very new cassette/CD player for $5.00. Now he can listen to music on those long night photo shoots. So nice to have the golf cart to drive around in.

We both worked each day of the weekend at our desks.  For Colin, lots of photoshop and for me still catching up and trying to keep current.  Other than the few hours checking out the flea market we worked.  Even though it was nice and 28C out the girls only got the one walk per day.  We feel bad but time is so short right now.  We even had two trades people in over the weekend.

I managed to get a full pot of veggie soup going. Can you see all that quinoa in there? I was able to freeze three meals for when I come home from the hospital and need good nourishing food.

The best news of the weekend was our conversation with Colin’s Mom.  She is going to turn 99 the end of October.  She is doing very well except for losing her hearing several years ago.  She finally agreed to all her boys getting together and paying for hearing aids.  Now we don’t have to shout on the telephone when we talk to her in Winnipeg, where she still lives on her own in a Seniors home but shops for and cooks her own meals.  She had no idea of the number years she could no longer hear but thought that there was no sense spending money on hearing aids as she was not going to be on this earth for very long.   Well that was 15 years ago and she is still the Energizer Bunny. We are happy for her to be hearing new sounds.  I predict she will be around at least until 122.

Que Pasa

Happy Birthday Dad and Happy Father’s Day !!  A big day for you.  I know that with Mom still in the hospital it just won’t be the same.  Please know that we all love you.

It looks like our tree is going to survive. As you can see it will loose some leaves but should be perfect next year.

Want to know how the other half ( well maybe 5%  ) live?

They have a 40′ motorhome just like we do, but it cost 3 million USD.

Have a look at this one minute video from CNN….

http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/bestoftv/2013/06/11/early-vo-mobile-mansion-rv-dubai.cnn

I’ve decided I don’t like Canada’s new no penny policy.  If you pay with cash this is what happens as per the Canadian Mint website.

So I stopped in at the grocers to pick up 2 zucchini and handed over $2.60 in cash and was given no change. I was rounded up in error, yet again. I should have received 5 cents change! Instead I paid 3 cents extra.

So either I now have to pay with my VISA card for everything or carry a copy of the rounding up/down policy.  Not sure if I will bother going back for my 3 cents. On second thought,  I can tell you that my Dad would and I am my father’s daughter so I will go back. You taught me well Dad.  Maybe if I save enough pennies I can buy Colin one of those 3 million dollar RV’s shown in the video.

Happy Father’s day to all you readers that are Dad’s.  Hope you have a special day.
