A quickie today

Lots of firsts…….

~ my new camera arrived today and is being charged…..now I can get more great photos for you.

~ I had my first bath since the end of June.

.....so happy to be soaking again.

~ I took Colin’s car ( mostly because I can’t get into my low roadster ) and did a wee bit of personal shopping and a whole bunch of food and stuff shopping for Mexico.  We are getting ready to hit the road 🙂

~ we got our 3rd associate confirmed in each of the 4 Tommie categories.  These are people who are putting money in.

~plus we have hired a professional writer to do our 250 word submission per entry ( who is willing to accept the fee we are  willing to pay ) about 60% less than his normal fee.  We are rocking!!

Fall is in the air

Fall must be in the air because I have the desire to get the crockpot out and make soups and stews.

Instead I made another one of my homemade pizza pies.

As you can see in the photo above I added fresh from the garden tomatoes plus left over BBQ'ed eggplant. So many extras that the height was 1.5 inches. Plus we used 8 year old cheese.

Between us we could only eat half.

A few days ago we thought that the geese were gone but yesterday ( Sunday ) the lake was full of them.

You have to trust me here.....there are hundreds, all represented by the tiny black dots. Remember I am using a very old camera. My new one should arrive any day.

Colin had the urge to get things cleaned up and put away.

He not only power washed all 3 vehicles but most of the spider webs got removed from the house. Why are there so many spider webs in the fall?

Our flower pots are slowly fading.

They look good from a distance but I think the time has come to say adios.

We have had our final 30C weekend of the year.  The weather has changed.  In fact last night we had a major thunderstorm complete with power outage.  Here in our RV resort many awnings were ripped, patio umbrellas disappeared, never to be found and several trees were destroyed.  I think it was the scariest storm I have been through in over 20 years.

Our future....until we arrive on the Isla that is.

Weekend Que Pasa

We both spent time catching up on our emails.  Colin did some work in the RV while I did some here in the house.  In his spare time, Colin keeps editing our award winning entries for the Tommie Awards.  The builder of this house plus ourselves are the main people behind the entries but we are in the process of getting a third associate participant in each of the four categories we are entering to help defray the costs.  We are only short in two categories and hope to hear during the business week about the other two.

We enjoyed a spring salmon BBQ Friday evening, which Colin cooked to perfection.  By waiting a bit later into the evening, we were finally able to sit outside and dine al fresco sans wasp.

Last summer we were able to eat out most evenings but not this year. It was great being able to watch the wildlife on the lake. we only saw the one wasp. Maybe we are winning the battle.

I ordered a fancy address sign for our new home from the USA.  It took forever to get here as it was custom made. Then I was away in Edmonton and then it rained and then it seemed that this weekend was the perfect time to put it up.

Colin worked very very hard in the 32C ( 90F ) temps to get it right before putting in the final screws.

We both think it looks fabulous and classy.

Still hot and humid but a change is in the air.

With this forecast I think we shall BBQ some salmon tonight, sockeye this time. We do have a freezer full to eat.

Last night we had a fabulous sunset .

This is making me think Mexico and all the great Isla sunsets.

So glad that we took a moment to enjoy nature.

Over the top

No, not a martian but a very full spider.

Saw this fellow pull into the park yesterday.  I actually see quite a lot even though we face the lake.  But I heard this engine first, which made me get up and look out front.

Why would you need a truck like that to pull that wee travel trailer?

What next?

A bit over the top, don't you think?

Then a bit later when I went to check the mail I saw this wee unit checking in.

So in the end all things are equal, eh??

By the way, greetings to a new comment maker on my blog, Gail.  She suggested putting household ammonia on a wasp bite.  In her words…

“When you get stung, apply household ammonia on it as soon as possible. Will stop pain immediately, and you should have no rash or swelling. I keep some in my first aid kit. Works on the dogs too, but make sure they don’t lick it-just rinse it off of them after a few minutes.”

Great advice and you should read the comment made by ButterBean Carpenter from Coleman County, Texas ,where they seem to have the greatest variety of wasps that I ever heard of.  Stay safe down there.

Meanwhile I used the suggestion given to me when I got a wasp  bite in my ear last month, I put a penny on the sting area and the swelling decreased within an hour.  Amazing.

However I can no longer complain about wasps when Rod over in West Kelowna is dealing with bears in his back yard, both brown and black.

ATTACKED yet again…

…too hot to walk the girls (which I am not doing anyway) so I took them for a golf cart ride.

With temperatures just over 33C, I was driving along trying to create a breeze and I got attacked.  Yes another wasp bite, this time on my ring finger on the left hand.  My knuckle is so swollen I can’t get my rings off.  I can see 3  inflamed puncture marks.  No wonder it hurt so much.

The wasps have become so bad that the media have become involved.  Now we may become known as the Valley of the Wasps.

Lots of stories here and suggestions on how to control them.

It is perfect weather to sit outside and just enjoy but not possible with all of these wasps.  The poor girls can’t even lay out in the sun without being buzzed.
