Out with the old and in with the new

I looked out the window early Wednesday morning and wondered what the heck was going on down the end of the street.

Quite the tall crane.  I so enjoy the color of this tree every fall.

It appears that they were chopping down a tree.

I headed out to Kelowna for my second long day of shopping while Colin walked up the street to check out what was happening.

Did they really have to kill such a beautiful old tree?

It was a long day for me with 2 medical appointments in the morning and a ton of errands here and there.  Wow I spent $1024.13 Wednesday but did manage to save $89.60 at the health food store as I had 15% off coupon.  They did not have everything I needed so had to request several items to be ordered in for me. Another thing I did was buy a new bathroom scale that I had decided upon after much research and reading of reviews. So I was upset yesterday to discover that it never weighed the same twice in a row.  Rather it kept upping the weight by 2 – 3 lbs each time I stepped back on the scale.  I guess that would be the perfect scale for someone who wants to gain weight 👿  I stayed home Thursday but Colin had a job way out in West Kelowna so he returned it for me and got another model.  I tried that one this morning and it appears to be functioning properly thus far.

By the time I was done both my trunk and backseat and floor were full.  So Colin met me at the RV where we unloaded everything.  I really miss not having our RV less than five minutes from us here in the storage lot in the park.  The plan is to redo the storage lot early next year and hopefully it will be open when we return in April.  The underground water from the flood really did a number on it.

Meanwhile the new sectional arrived. Note the big guy in the foreground.  Colin says that all he did was tell the two small guys what to do as he supervised.

It was a very tight fit getting it through the gate.

The guy with the sunglasses has quite the grimace on his face.  Colin said that at this point he had to move both my desks as they seemed unable to lift high enough.  Behind the big guy is our rosewood glass china cabinet that almost got smashed.  The big guy did nothing.  Just a bit further into the living area Colin apparently had to grab the sofa before it smashed to the ground.  I am so glad that I was out and that Colin was home to deal with this.  I would have been a basket case.

Colin was asked to sign a paper that the sectional had been delivered in pristine condition.  This was the first thing I noticed when I got home.  We called Scan Design and they will do a repair to our satisfaction or replace it.

As to the computer issues, etc. I went ahead and scheduled an unlimited ( as much time as needed ) home visit by a Geek for $50.00 which is for October 25th, their earliest date.  Meanwhile I spoke to Mr Geek Manager who informed me that the entire company and administration knew who I was and what my issues were.  He promised me that they were trying to get someone to come here ASAP to help me at no charge.  I reminded him that we were leaving on the 27th, which we are, but for Winnipeg.  We don’t leave for Mexico until November 6th.  So now I know I have someone coming one way or the other and I will not be paying either way.  Why should I?

I ended up being on two phone calls at the same time that evening and Colin had to take over when after holding 20 minutes on the one phone, a human came on the line.  I am multi tasking as best I can.  It was funny as we switched phones at least 3 times back and forth during the conversations as only I had the info needed for that particular call at that time.  We must be crazy but it was hilarious at the time and I got two things crossed off the list.  I expected to be caught up by now but I am not.  Maybe by Sunday night or so, I hope.

The Coquihalla had quite the dump of snow today and was closed for several hours due to winter driving conditions and unprepared motorists.  We had our bit of snow rather close to the ground as well.

The day got away from me today.  It was supposed to be another shopping day but I wasn’t ready with that list so I stayed home to get that end of things organized.  Instead I had unexpected lengthy phone calls and two sets of unexpected visitors.  The last one brought me two lovely bottles of wine as a thank you for something 😀  Our clients are now on official notice that photos will now be done in clouds or rain.  No more promises of sunshine or they are welcome to wait till our return mid April.  Then there was the moment that I thought I had killed my keyboard.  I could not get it to work.  Finally I realized that it needed to be charged 🙁

The snow is very low to the ground for this time of year.  The white at the bottom is the lake.  I decree that this is a wine night, first in a long while.  I need to move away from my desk and the computer and sit with my feet up and enjoy my book and a lovely cool glass ( or 2 or ? ) of Pinot Grigio.  Oh gosh, where does the time go, it is 10:30PM already.  Adios for now.

Getting it done

It was a long day on my feet yesterday but I got everything on my to do list accomplished.  At the end of the day I realized that I had walked just over 10,000steps, my first since the end of August.  Best of all my foot did not hurt.  I cautiously say that I am good to start my walking again.  I’m glad I took the time to let the injury heal and to restart my walking a bit at a time.  Of course this is not the right time of year for me to be out walking on a daily basis but I know I am in good shape for walking in Mexico.

I spent $351.68 yesterday and saved $46.95.  My biggest deal was on cheddar cheese, I bought both old and medium as they were on sale and marked good until the end of April.  1.5lbs of old cheddar cost me $6.99CAD.  After much back and forth I ended up buying 6lbs which will travel to the Isla for happy hours.

One of the neat things I did was finalize everything I want to bring to Winnipeg the end of this month.  Mommio is going to have so much fun.  The first day theme is going to be Halloween which she loves.  I got a few things to decorate her room.  The next day is her 103rd birthday and of course it will all be about her and the many many gifts we have for her.  Our last day there will be centered around a Christmas theme.  We won’t be there long but it will be over the top entertainment while we are.

Yesterday was a very full day and today is going to be even busier.  Fortunately my last two medical appointments are today and are just routine things.  No computer news at all.  I did leave two messages to contact me before 11AM today on my cell so we shall see what happens.

We got our new coffee table yesterday. Waiting for the sectional.

I continue to remain jinxed

My hot air brush which I have owned as long as I can remember electrically committed suicide Saturday.  I only used it about once per week.

Then yesterday morning my bathroom scale also died a painful death.  To add to the mix my weather station  also took a dive but that one should be resolved with a new battery.  It goes without saying that my computer issues continued.  Something to do with Apple mail and G mail not being able to play together.  Then there is the constant churning of the wheel as my computer ponders whether to to what I asked it to, even just writing out a word or a lot of words such as this post.  It was enough to make me cry yesterday.  So that is four electronic devices in 36 hours.  I will restate that I really truly was happy with my old 2009 desktop that was slow.  Maybe I should have just purchased a new hard drive.  I do intend to get down to some serious yelling to the geek guys about the desktop issues at some point today.

However I am off in a very few moments as I have one medical appointment this morning and eleven errands.  Yes that is 11 errands, from purchases for our trip south, to picking up printer paper, to dropping something at the lawyer’s office, to picking up pesos at the bank.  I figure I will be gone over five hours then I have to come home and work 😯

That is snow up there.  We have snow flurries in our forecast down here later in the week. Groan.

Loved hearing the chorus of coyotes out in full voice last night.  They entertained with a full range of yips and howls.

The devastating fires in California leave me speechless.  So glad that we got to enjoy Napa last fall.

Happy Thanksgiving

Today is the last day of a three day long weekend here in Canada and it is the official Thanksgiving Day.  Colin and I don’t celebrate in any special way as it always falls during our busiest time of year business wise.  I guess you might say that we are thankful to have enough work and to have these three days to catch up.  We both put in a 12 hour day yesterday and will be doing that again today, me at my desk and Colin doing photography of a home three hours away.  I won’t see him until close to 11PM tonight.

I wish all of our Canadian friends  a very……….

Trying to keep up

The last few days have been a blur of activity.  I finally have transferred all the to do’s from various areas, from business to personal, written out in one large page per day day timer.  Now all I have to do is execute everything on each page every day.  Easier said than done.  Sometimes an item that should take perhaps 15 minutes might take much longer as one thing leads to another that needs to be dealt with first.  New things keep cropping up.  Needless to say I am not keeping up with my daily tasks.  Colin keeps plodding along  doing his editing.  The weather has been kind to him,  allowing him a few good days followed by a few cloudy/rainy days enabling him to stay mostly caught up with his work.

Somehow I got up early enough this past Thursday to take in this spectacular sunrise.

The computer issue has continued to take a lot of my time.  Late yesterday we were able to pick up the old iMac that has been wiped clean so that I can sell it and the supposedly fully operational running laptop.  However the first think I saw when I turned it on last evening was that it was not compatible to my email address.  I simply shut the lid.  To be dealt with another day.  That day will likely be today.  Fingers crossed that we are going to get an in home visit from the Geek people.  Mr Manager was to bump me to the head of the line ten days ago.  I really need to get both my computers working wireless and his main task is to set up the new printer which won’t work for me.  I  however now have a long list for him to check.

It wasn’t long before the storm clouds rolled in.

We did manage to get to the RV about 5:30 PM yesterday so that I could check what items I need to replace /replenish for our trip.  We like to take our own paper goods with us ( we can get great quality for cheaper here and we have the space ) so I was checking things from saran wrap to napkins to paper towels to toilet paper.  Colin checked off things I had tasked him with.  I had found a note the other day that we needed to repair a chip in the windshield.  Neither of us remembered the chip but there it was.  We decided to wait and have it repaired in Las Vegas.  We finally got home about 2 hours later ( yes that made for a very late dinner ) but remembered to bring the RV printer with us to make sure that it still works and is compatible to the new operating systems in my macs.  I intend to make full use of my Geek home visit, if he turns up.

That was the end of our sun for the day.

Earlier yesterday Colin took a few hours to get some things sorted in the RV and the basements before the rain started.  On thing on his list was to take down a smaller side window blind to have it restrung.  There is someone here in the park that does that for about $20.00.  That would be a good side business for you George.   These people like wine also and when talking with the fellow yesterday we discovered that they take close to 4 cases of wine across the US border.  The duty is only .21 cents per bottle.  Guess who is now taking 4 cases across with us next month?   So that one little task of taking down the blind for repair led us to add a stop at the liquor store yesterday to buy the wine for the trip as it was on sale and essentially we got 4L for free.  Now you see how one thing can lead to another.

Adios to our sectional. We were surprised how it all fit in the truck.

If we had time we could use our new dance floor to practice on.

I did a double take when I saw this. Colin had put these two doxie statues looking out the window just like the girls used to do.  Can you spot the goose bobbing in the waves?  I found the statues in my Mom’s things when I was cleaning out her closets after she died.  She never got a chance to give them to me but they are now a very special memory of her and the girls.
