And we are off

So much stuff required us to pull out the big suitcases.  The stuffed animals were all given to our girls by Mommio over the years.  She loves music and fun things.  Each one of these sing and dance.  So much fun.  Of course we are returning them to her so she has something that used to belong to her.  Colin commented the other day that even all the photo albums of her younger days and accomplishments over the years have disappeared. We hope to banish that sadness starting today.

We filled our old hard sided Samsonite with the comforter and other birthday gifts .  It sure holds a lot @ 27 x 22 x 9.  The red suitcase is a new purchase for our trip to Europe next May.  It measures 27 1/2 x 16 x 12.  At one point we thought we would also have to also use one of our carry on bags but everything fit into both of these suitcases.

Good thing that I am a member of the Westjet Rewards program as both bags can be checked at no charge.  Sad to see them coming back empty on Sunday. Another saving of $100.00 to us.  Who pays $25.00 to check a bag each way these days?  Interesting that they only charge the one fee from Kelowna to Winnipeg per each piece of luggage, but charge us seat selection from Kelowna to Calgary and yet another charge for seat section from Calgary to Winnipeg.

I am paying the full price for my return ticket Kelowna to Winnipeg.  As a Westjet Rewards member I get one free companion pass per year.  Depending on where you are traveling, domestic/USA or Europe, there is a different fee for the ‘free’ ticket.  This one cost $99.00 ( cost for the ‘free ‘ pass to anywhere in Canada or the US ) for Colin’s ticket.  However one is still charged all those irritating but necessary  ( to someone ) taxes.  As you can see Colin’s free ticket cost us $209.21 of which $110.21 is taxes.  We always prebook our seats so that cost another $31.50, so a total of $240.71.  Far better than my cost of $580.00.  These days you can fly from Vancouver to pretty much anywhere in the world for less than that.

So it snowed Thursday in Winnipeg but they tell me that it is melting.  Good thing as I will be wearing open toed sandals with socks. It was -9C earlier so I guess it is warming up.  We leave at about 9PM Sunday and land here just after 11PM local time.

On another note we discovered yesterday and confirmed with a staff member that Mommio has no winter clothing at all.  She has a light spring jacket.  I asked the social worker to check about getting Mommio her winter clothes from the POA brothers.  We certainly hope that her lovely winter coat has not been disposed of.  Meanwhile I have packed another heavy fleece jacket for me to wear while she uses my black leather winter jacket 🙁

Actually at 4:40AM right now it is -11C.  Yikes!

Sunrise, sunset and my girls

Caught this lovely chevron sunrise the other morning.

It was followed by a very colourful sunset. Getting me in the mood for those spectacular Isla sunsets.

Of course that brings to mind our girls on the beach hunting for crabs.

Oh how we miss them.

Before and after

Another example of the work Colin does.

This photo needed a lot of work to make it ready for marketing.

So many changes made in photoshop.  Many hours on the computer.  Even the sky is different.

When the client saw this he emailed back, “Dude, Unreal !! “

Someone seriously needs your help and it won’t cost you a penny

There is someone I have come to know via social media who lives in Virginia and is struggling to feed her family each and every day.   Every penny makes a difference to this person’s basic existence.

Many of you shop on Amazon.com and most especially at this time of year, before the holidays.   I have a friend who is trying to help this family by donating her Amazon purchase commissions to them to buy food.  She has set up a referral link that only requires that you click on it before making your Amazon selections and purchases.    By using this link you are able to help this person buy food and it costs you not a penny more than your regular purchase would.  Why not click here first and help someone out?

Many of you have seen such links on many other blogs.  People use their blogs to promote their link and I know of two who personally bring in close to a thousand dollars each per month.  This helps to pay for their travel lifestyle.

This person needs to feed her family and struggles day to day.  All you need to do to change someone’s life is to click this Amazon link before you start to shop.   Yes there are many out there who need help and we all give when and how we can but why not try to make a difference in this one person’s life without spending a penny of your money.

The leather man finally came

Scan Design sent the leather repair guy out the other day. Turns out that we had hired him a few years ago to fix something on my desk chair. He has quite the process. Here he is heating the leather with a hair dryer.

Then there is an involved method of mixing his paint color.   He then uses a huge compressor and sprays the leather.  I didn’t watch the entire process as I was working but it did take time.

If you recall this was the damaged area on our sectional when it was delivered.

Perfect repair job.

While he was there Colin asked if he could repair two areas on the Jeep.  He quoted a price and said he could do it in about two weeks but it had to be a day with no rain.  Well you can’t guarantee that and we are leaving shortly.  So I sweet talked him into doing it right now as it was sunny out ( he decided that he could be a little late for his next client ) and that I would pay him cash.

There were two scratches on the glove box, on the the right and a fainter one on the left . He actually semi melted the plastic material and used a template to press into the softened area to remove the scratches.

Like magic, no scratches.

A better photo showing the texture.

There was a tiny cut on the driver when we purchased it.  Someone must have had something sharp in their pocket.

The end result. There is no longer a cut in the leather seat but you can see a faint mark.

A very good deal on the car repairs for $150.00, much cheaper than the what the dealer quoted us.  He was here just over 90 minutes.

Colin off on his last job of the year yesterday. 🙂

Not looking forward to that -8C/17F on Friday night.  Hopefully Mommio has cold weather clothes.
