A huge noisy beast almost ruined my party

Yesterday  ( ** Wednesday, Nov. 29th ) I was having a happy hour/dinner for the entire RV park when this thing crashed the party.

The noise made it difficult to talk and you had to raise your voice so the person beside you could hear you.

First he moved sand around along the road and the be began to go back and forth directly in front of all the RV sites.  We have no idea why nor the purpose of this exercise but the RV park owner was there directing all the activity.  This morning we are still pondering the purpose of it all.

It seemed to go on and on.

We were all sitting waiting for the noise to end.

I waited for close to 25 minutes and finally decided to have everyone start helping themselves to all the food  they had brought.  We had a lovely variety of snacks including many fish dishes.  It ended up being dinner for all 24 of us.  Sadly two of the new arrivals were missing due to illness.

How often have you seen a sunset with a grader featured front and center?   He finally left  after about 50 minutes and no he never got any food.

It was another special sunset and once the beast left we were able to sit and socialize as we nibbled.

Some folks drifted away after a few hours but others stayed and the party continued.

Colin played for a while and some French songs may have been sung.  Things wound down by 9ish.  A good time was had by all.

*******How  bizarre,  I just found that I had not published this post this past Thursday.  It was already to go and I never hit publish.  Sorry about that.  I will do a few in the over the next day to catch up to real time.

We have been having a lot of fun along the way

Just a quick note to let you know that the only reason I am not posting everyday is because of a lack of time.  I have lots of photos and stories to share but time eludes me.

We only have a few hours left to complete our set up.  Then there are the usual RV chores such as cleaning fantastic fans, washing and waxing the RV and so on.  But those will happen as we can fit them in although I have to say that those fans really need to be dealt with soon.  Laundry is easy as we simply drop it off and pick it up a few days later.  Last week cost us 125 pesos, about $8.50CAD/$6.70USD and we had two weeks worth of things to be laundered.  So nice to have it all done for us.  Likely our cost will decrease to 100 pesos or so per week.

This past Saturday we had our neighbors, Audrey and Darwin as well as their neighbors, Kathleen and Ron over for happy hour.

We met Audrey and Darwin here last winter and realized that we had met in Lo de Marcos 15 years ago while staying at Tlaquepaque.  Today another couple came in who also knew us from way back then.

It turned out to be one of our 4 -5 hour happy hours.  As you can see we had not yet set up our outdoor lights.  We did what we had to do in order to have some light.  It was a great evening with old and new friends.

Sunday we worked on our lighting, went for a walk and had a good long swim.  Over a glass of wine we enjoyed a colorful sunset.

We have orioles hanging around. They have been hinting at us to get some oranges up for them.  Once we put the oranges out yesterday, they stopped coming.  Hopefully they will show up soon.  Meanwhile our hummingbirds are enjoying our hospitality and fighting for dominance of our yard space.

Beautiful showing of one of my hibiscus plants, almost the size of a dinner plate.

Two RVs came in Sunday and three more today.  RV1 only has one more space open for the winter.  RV2 is also filling up.  Now that the road is paved ( that last km was paved the other day ) folks are coming thru for just a few days.  However many realize that they have found paradise and have decided to stay for the season.

We were invited to a happy hour last night in a three story apartment building overlooking the shipping channel.  Their fourth floor is a large deck.  What a great view. They pay a mere $475.00CAD/month for a one bedroom apartment.  One of the best deals on the beach.

We were lucky enough to catch a cruise ship heading out.

Today I was more relaxed and we choose not to do a beach walk.  Instead we did some inside household chores and a bit of this and that. This sunset photo was taken from my friends site at the other end of the park this evening.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day as I am hosting 26 for happy hour 😎  The next two nights we are out and about 😀   We did have a great home cooked dinner tonight which was a real treat.  Soon we will be back into a normal routine or so I hope.

Thanks for checking in.  I have yet to start a novel but it won’t be long now.

Last Friday was magical

The day started with Ismael having time to work in my garden.  This is just half of all the palm trees roots that he removed.  They are very invasive and choke the life out of other plants.

He did a great job of clearing this flower bed and replanting it.  Note that the wheelbarrow has even more roots now.  I pretty much replaced all the plants in this part of my garden.  The wind and salt air are hard on the flowers.

Once the plants were done we got back to painting. This time it was the patio.  Sadly the long stick handle broke  as I was putting my everything  into it.  So I simply bent over and used the short end to keep painting.  You can see the difference in the color of yellows.  Loews no longer had that critical yellow color number that we used for the patio color last year.  So now we have a much brighter sunny yellow color.

When I got tired Colin took over.

The best part of Friday was heading to the opera Carmen at the Angela Peralta Theater.  Colin is hanging out with a few gypsies while I was in the bano.

I have seen this opera several tines including once at the Met in New York.  My mother had sung in the chorus of this opera and once I was in the childrens chorus as depicted in the middle left of the photo above.

Act 2, the tavern scene.  Every act was very well done.

Here Don Jose is telling Carmen that he can’t live without her but she denies her love for him as she loves another.  Shortly thereafter he kills her.

It was a great performance.  However it was long, it took 3.5 hours to get to the curtain calls.

We were very tired by the tine we got back home to the RV,  but oh so very inspired by the wonderful evening we had just enjoyed.  One of our best nights out since the opera in Venice.

Enjoying our lives in real time

This was supposed to be my Friday post but for some reason I never got it written.  I have given myself permission to take some time off here and there.  So please don’t worry if I don’t post everyday.  Sometimes I just need a break from the time required to create a post.  Life is short and meant to be lived to the fullest each and every day.  Sometimes that involves not writing a post but not to worry I promise to catch you up on the que pasa of it all.  My to do lists are long and eventually I will get them all done.

Thursday morning Colin was off on a mission. He had spied a piece of driftwood  on one of our morning walks and he wanted it.

A large piece of driftwood I should add. He had to hire a local to pick it up.  As far as he is concerned it was worth the $13.00 CAD he paid for the transport.

Very heavy and large.  One of the branches had to be cut off.

You may notice that our wall is higher than normal.  The owner of the RV park has decided to raise the wall height as a precaution, as often the summer and fall storms sweep in and create damage.  Great plan as we won’t lose our pea gravel every year.  The only problem is that our stairs down to the beach are much too short plus we would need to have two steps on this side to get up to the wall.  The new wall would have been a major concern had the girls still been with us as normally they would lay and look through our fencing at the beach activity.  The wall would have been a problem as they would have wanted to jump up and walk along it.  I could just see them jumping down once they spotted some critter down on the beach  😥   So for the two of us it is not an issue at all.  For some RVers it will be an issue.  There are ‘public’ stairs for the back row folks and we will simply walk over and use those.  As is sometimes the Mexican way only the first three sites have been affected with the new wall, the other sites still have the lower wall.  I imagine that next year the wall will be raised the entire length of the park,

Colin thought that the log would break up the drabness of the wall.  I added the plant pots.

The look is slowly growing on me.

Once Colin’s new piece of art was in place we got to work painting our posts.  It has been 7 years since we properly painted them.  Over the years we have managed with simple touch ups.

Can you see how shiny the new paint is?  I believe that we were given an oil based paint in error.  It was very thick to paint with and today, three days later it is still tacky.  I hope that means that it will last longer.

You can easily see the color difference between the old and the new.  Impossible to match a paint color here. Also the new paint has a sheen to it.  Oh well, there was no way we were going to drive back into Mazatlan to get the correct paint, nor did I want to repaint 7 posts again.

The cement posts were painted so it was time to prep the patio for it’s paint job.  Sweep and a light power wash.

By sunset we were ready to just sit back and relax.

Yesterday was another crazy day

We started the day with a long beach walk.  We haven’t been walking every day as we are still in the midst of setting up.  Of course if the girls were here we would be walking every day at least once per day.  A rather large jelly fish.

We are so very lucky to have this beach to ourselves almost everyday.

This fisherman was way out and we could see all the pelicans around his boat.  Looks like he is have a good start to his day.

After our walk we headed into Mazatlan.

The GPS in the Jeep is new to us.  We did well with it in Las Vegas and it really helped us get around there.   However the GPS does not seem to recognize Mazatlan.  It does show us where we are but will not give us the directions from point A to B.   For some reason it will not accept Mazatlan as the city where we are at the moment.

Our first stop happened to be along the malecon which is pretty torn up in the name of progress!!  A great deal of Mazatlan has been under construction this last summer and fall.

So were are trying to find parking along this very busy area.  Do you see that rather large red Weber grill  to the right of the photo?  That is where we were heading.  Only we had to execute a u turn with the minimum  space possible and finally find a place to park.  We needed a new connector hose and they actually had one. 589 pesos!!

Next stop was the paint store. We needed to pick up some paint for our cement palapa posts.

Our final stop was the plant place to get a large number of new plants for my garden.

This fellow was riding on top of the load, whatever it was, as we traveled the highway.  It reminded us of sights we would see in India.

A long day indeed and when we got back, unloaded and had some food it was too late to start doing a project.  I was rather tired.  The good news is that we are almost finished our to do list.  We just can’t relax until everything has been done.  So nice to be able to say that we are almost there.

A belated Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends and readers.
