I got locked in the bathroom, AGAIN!!

This past Tuesday, David the owner of the RV park here on the Isla put on a posada as he called it at RV2.  I would call it a party.   He provided the tables, chairs, a live band, beer and we all brought the pot luck meal.  In true Mexican fashion it started about 40 minutes late.

There was more food than we could eat.

The band was excellent and could play any request. Their music was perfect. That is a Princess cruise ship heading out.

Of course there was a colorful sunset. Sadly we have not had a sunset since ( 3 nites now ) as clouds and some drizzle have returned.  Fortunately we always get a few hours of blue sky and sun midday.

This fellow was really good. The band played for three hours with just a 30 minute break.  Loved the lighting system the group brought along.

We danced a lot and I mean a LOT.  The band just seemed to know what to play to get everyone up dancing.

Very happy that someone used my camera to take some photos of us.

I can’t recall the song but everyone was up dancing on this one.

I even got Ismael, our handyman up for a dance.

So at about this point I needed to go to the bathroom.  Remember, we were at RV 2 so I had to use the public facility.  As the stalls are unisex I automatically lock the door behind me.  Once I’ve done my thing I go to open the door.  Only it does not open.  I try and try.  I push and turn the knob.  Ever so slowly it  dawns on me that I am locked in the bathroom.  Bring claustrophobic I panic.  I bang on the door with both fists all the while screaming help as loud as I can.  I bang, I scream and keep turning the knob which does not move.

My fists get sore.  I feel the air becoming thinner.  Eventually I realize that with the band playing, there is no way anyone could hear me.  I try and calm myself.  I  remember that I have a tiny LED  flashlight with me.  I stand on my tippy toes and raise my arm as high as I can to turn the flashlight on and off in the small opening at the top of the door.  On and off, on and off with the occasional cry for help.  Finally I hear footsteps on the gravel.  Someone had seen the flashing light.  I was rescued.  I was trapped for just over 20 minutes.

This is the third time in about three years that I have been trapped in a bathroom in Mazatlan.  Last year they had to break down the door to get me out.  You can read about that here.  There is no way that I am ever ever going to go to the bathroom alone unless in my own home.  I will have someone with me or I will not lock the door.  Needless to say I was upset and that was the end of my fun evening.  I had told Colin that I was going to the bathroom but he was chatting with a friend and had no idea as to the amount of time that had passed.  I was so very happy to be free again.  This of course only adds to my claustrophobia.  Anytime I fly I have to do breathing exercises to calm down and not scream at the top of my lungs.  Wine does help.  If I can, I have a glass before heading out, unless the flite is at 7AM.

So for real, I have not locked a bathroom door since last Tuesday and we have been out to a few public places.  I don’t care who walks in on me.

Overall it was still a wonderful evening and I am so thankful that I got to dance to so many wonderful songs.  I did get the name of the band and their contact info, they were that good.  Now who can I talk into hiring a band?  Hmm I know someone who is having a special birthday in February.  Are you reading this Dave?

Critters in my garden

This little guy was about the size of a goldfinch but I wonder if he could be a species of oriole.  He was most interested in the oranges.

We had visitors Monday morning. Bella and Karl used to RV here on the Isla but now rent an apartment on the beach in the Golden Zone.  We have known them for nine years and they loved the girls.  Caeli used to go over to their RV for naps in the afternoon.  Bella is an artist and always delivers a special Christmas card that she painted.  Her art sells in a gallery in Manitoba.

Not easy to see but there is an oriole on both orange halves.  They could eat two oranges per day but we limit them to the one.  There are several types of orioles that visit our oranges.

A new visitor to my back garden.

Colin was playing his guitar when he spied this critter munching the leaves of my plumeria tree.  Fortunately I had my camera close by.

Monday night was the monthly spaghetti dinner at Carmelitas.  We caught up with friends who are not RVers.  Sorry for the out of focus shot.  It is official, Carmelitas  makes the best margaritas on the Isla.  Not saying that that is the reason for the blurry photo 🙂

This year they are working out of a mini kitchen as the restaurant kitchen is under renovation.  I can personally attest that Jon, in the white shirt, threw a piece of spaghetti on the wall to declare that it was ready to be served!  If it sticks it is ready.

I snuck outside to catch this Monday night sunset.

I am trying to get my posts caught up to real time but with the Christmas season we are just so busy doing things that I have lots to share with  you.

A busy Sunday

One of my RV neighbors out with his wonder dog Cody.

Cody looks so relaxed out there on the paddle board.

Dave manages to get Cody back to shore without wetting his paws.

Did you know that star fish are very mobile?  There have been a lot of them on the beach these past few days and of course Colin is saving those that have been turned on their backs by turning them the right way around.  So great to be making a tiny dent in helping Mother Nature.

Let me know when you have had enough sunset photos.

It appears that I had a busy day 🙂

We did manage to get Christmas put up

Colin thinks that my photos are not very good but until he takes some himself this is it.  We did this about a week ago.

We used to put up 3 or 5 trees so when we started RVing I picked a selection of our favorite ornaments to travel with us, some of which I had made myself over the years.

We listen to Christmas music as we decorate. Colin first puts up the colored lights on his own by his choice.  Then we add the ornaments.

That night was of of those seven non sunset nights.

The stockings for the 5C’s have been hung.  I knit those many years ago.

Our dog ornament collection along with a photo of Carmeh and Caeli in the background.  There are a few penguins in there as well.

This was a gift to us years ago and we have finally started to use it. Are you still out there Julie?  Thank you again.

We have had this wee tree for years.  I love how the outside white faerie lights add the overall photo.

Perhaps too many photos but I love Christmas.

A bit of our outside look.

Colin’s piece of art now has some back lighting.

The entrance to our site from the back of the RV.

It is not quite this bright but it certainly is well lit.

Did I mention that I love Christmas 🙄  During all of this decorating we are listening to French Christmas carols.  They are so much more melodic than the English ones.

We dried out on Saturday

Many large puddles on the Isla.

For Rae….now that you are gone there is a sushi restaurant on the Isla.

…some puddles are actually mini lakes.  It is hard for me to imagine what the Isla is like during the wet season over the summer months.  Kudos to you Joyce and Ken and Shelby and Mel for living here year round.

This poor horse looked so very lonely.

At least I felt his despair as we drove past.

Surprise, I have a new flower.

The first time I have seen a flower on these plants in four years.

This fellow showed up at a happy hour. He did appear to be content.

Two sunsets in a row. Almost back to paradise.

We are happy to be here.  For some reason this sail boat feels a need to move further south.
