The last day of 2017

The day started out dull and grey but was great for the final beach walk of the year.

Lots of folks walking the beach to take in the sunset.

As the sun was setting the moon was rising.

With the final sunset of 2017 it was time for us to prepare to head into Mazatlan for New Years Eve.

Loved these new style colorful balloons.  Really just a clear helium balloon with a small string of tiny colored lights wrapped around the outside.  It did have an on/off switch but likely the balloon would not last too many days.

Dozens and dozens of tables were awaiting their diners.  The Plazuela would soon be packed full of fun seekers waiting to bring in the New Year.

We had dinner just a block off the Plazuela at Topolos.

We brought the New Year in with friends Claude, France, Pierre and Dianne.  We were too busy having a wonderful evening to take too many photos.

…and so begins 2018.

Happy New Years Eve

We started Dec 30th with our beach walk and picked up a selection of sand dollars.

Saw these crazy people fall off their ATV.  He was trying to do tricks and they both fell onto their backs.  Hopefully they realize how fortunate they are that they did not get hurt.

We decided to kick up our heels and head into the Plazuela Machado to see the lights and the activities.  We are doing it again tonight.

I never tire of the lights and watching everyone having a great time.

We enjoyed our dinner at La Tramoya and our walk(s) around the square.

Lot of lights along the shipping channel.  We were home by 11PM.  Tonight I don’t expect us to be home before 1AM.

I had no idea that yesterday would end as it did

More and more families coming to the beach every day despite the grey sky.

Horses just in front of RV2.  Keep the yellow building  on the left in mind, it is the Maria Coral Hotel and comes into play at the end of this post.

More ATV’s on the beach.

As well as many more horses.

Is that a UFO?

No, that is Pierre playing with his new drone.

The banana boat never stopped all day.  This is the one right in front of us.

Not sure if you can see the pelicans on the rocks in the background. There are at least six banana boats running up and down the beach at all times.

After a grey day it was nice to see a few rays of sun.

The weather is not normal and reminds us of the Oregon coast.  Grey, damp and humid.

We ended the day by attending a one hour concert put on by the Maria Coral Hotel. A tenor from Guadalajara was in Mazatlan and graciously offered to perform for an hour.  Apparently the owner of the hotel had been in a restaurant in Guadalajara with his daughter and this tenor, Ezequiel Ojeda, performed.  He invited Ezequiel to let him know when he was in Mazatlan.  Fortunately we were  all invited to attend.

The light was low and we had the wrong camera with us but oh my what a delightful end to my day.  He of course sang some operatic arias but also sang Amapola and Besame Mucho.  I am feeling rather spoiled this year with all the personal attention I am getting at operatic events.  Lucky me!

Busy beach day

The tourists have arrived, most of them Mexicans.

The beach was busy. Lots of banana boat rides, horseback rides on the beach along with the rented ATVs.  I think the beach vendors did well.

I was feeling much better yesterday and we went for a very long walk. Other than a handful of ATVs we were not bothered by anyone as we went quite a way down the beach. Usually these very tiny critters are under the sand. This one is visible making his pattern.

This is the first ‘dangerous’ jelly fish we have seen this year and there was just the one on the beach.

I never tire of watching families enjoying the wonders of the beach.  As you can see we have more cloud than sun but that isn’t stopping anyone from having a good time.

Even this bunch was laughing as they pushed.

In full disclosure I have to tell you that I did not take of photo of a nice sunset.  I had wandered down to the other end of the park for a quick chat but was invited to sit and have some wine.  Time passed and suddenly it was sunset and my camera was over at our site.  🙄  😆

Nothing to do but lay around

Yesterday was another dud of a day.  I had hoped to get out for a beach walk but had little energy and was mcuh too weak.  Plus there were only gray skies, too bad as there was a cruise ship in port.  I felt bad for those visiting Mazatlan for the first time.  It was also only 73F outside so I stayed inside under a blanket while sprawled out on the sofa reading.  Not to mention using up half a box of tissues as I kept sneezing repeatedly.  I finally gave in and started taking Tylenol Cold and Sinus tablets.  I had no sinus issues but had a headache and just could not stop sneezing.

Sadly we had to cancel having some friends over for drinks, snacks and a few games of Mexican Train.  There was no way I could stay focused.

So glad that I poked my head outside at sunset.

How could such a gray and colorless day produce such a work of art?

So how do you all cure the common cold?  What do you think is the quickest way to get rid of it?  Do your colds last just a few days or over a week?  Mine are usually quick and Colin take a week or longer.  We are really hoping that he doesn’t catch this one.  We have plans to bring in the New Year.
