We have puppies!!!

Sometime during the night someone came here to our specific site and dropped off three puppies.  I didn’t even go outside until 9:30 this morning to water my plants .  It was when I got close to one corner of my yard that I saw a movement.  I thought I was hallucinating when I saw three shaking puppies.  I immediately called for Colin to come out.  They were timid and backing up, all the while shaking.  I ran to a neighbor to beg for some kibble.  We soon had kibble and water out for them.

They were so hungry that they figured out how to chew the kibble.

It was obvious that they had been left here for me to find, dog lover and all.  They are likely just 4 weeks old if that.  They were so very hungry that they really tried to eat the kibble and eventually managed to figure it out.  Yesterday they had been nursing with their mamma and today they were orphans.

Colin fixed up a mini shelter for them out of an RV bin.  After they ate and tried to play they went to sleep.

The timing could not have been worse as I was just about to have my massage.  I wasn’t too relaxed as my mind was spinning.  Immediately after my massage and while my Mexican speaking masseuse was still here I called the animal shelter.  There was no room at all.  I of course never except a no but after 10 ten minutes of back and forth I had to understand that there was no room at all.  However they thought that in as week there should be more space as they then would be able to move move dogs together to make room for these three.  Needless to say that Pepper and her many pups were part of the reason for that lack of space and of course Princesca’s last few pups.

I was so impressed as the three of them would eat, move about and then go back to sleep.  But when they had to do their business they left their wee nest and moved away.  Gee they were already house trained.  I think they had been in a home because as soon as Colin had put the soft towel down they went onto it for a nap.

So my next step was to find a place for them to stay for a week.  Ann, the lovely blogger lady who came to the Isla last November only because of my blog was so happy when I asked her.  She is in a house here with a totally fenced in yard.  She had offered to take Princesca and her pups but we were able to get them into the shelter after only two days.  So Colin and I gathered odds and sods to help Ann with the care of these wee ones.

I don’t have a proper shot of the three pups but they range from large, the black and white in the middle, to the middle sized one on the right and the very tiny one on the left behind Ann’s hand.  We also set up a pen behind where Colin is standing and right away they knew to go there to do their business.

Sadly the middle one is not doing well at all. She is not digesting the kibble at all and is very weak and lethargic. Yet she can still walk about once we rouse her and is drinking water. We tried to put some mashed food with warm water into her mouth ( which was forced open).  She just kept spitting it out.

I think she just is not ready to swallow anything but liquid.  So we are off to Petco in a few moments to get some puppy milk and puppy kibble.  We have a function in Mazatlan anyway so we will be just a bit late.   Meanwhile I have managed to connect with someone here who has canned milk and will take that over to Ann tonight along with an eyedropper.  I will bring over the proper milk in the morning.  Hopefully all will be well.  I haven’t stopped all day and this is my first free moment to do something for me but of course I am still focused on the puppies.  Thank you Ann for taking the pups in.

My solo adventure on the Isla

I don’t think that I have driven alone on the Isla more than a dozen times in nine years.  No reason to as we tend to do things together.  But I wanted to pick Colin up at the embarcadero and our laundry also needed to be collected.

Saturday ended up being the nicest day we have had in a long while. Warm with little wind. The roads are still being torn up re the sewer situation so these wagons are now using the beach to bring groups to the restaurant next door.  In fact the 9 – plex is having a happy hour tomorrow and they had to email directions on which way you could get to their place.  ATV or walk along the beach, impossible to drive.

For some reason there were a lot of wagons last Saturday.

Back and forth. It must have been a special event or perhaps a promotion as they didn’t stay longer than a few hours and then more folks came and went.  There also was a live ( loud ) band that played all afternoon…. nonstop!

Finally it was time for me to leave to pick up the laundry.  The main road was blocked so I had to drive through the baseball field.  Coming out of the baseball field the road to my left was also blocked.

On my right it was also impassable. So I carried on straight ahead.

Got the laundry and headed back to the baseball diamond.  I got halfway across when a fellow started waving his arms for me to go back.  I then saw that the exit/entrance to the baseball field I had used just 15 minutes earlier was now blocked.  Nothing to do but turn around and head to the only other entrance to the colonia that had been blocked earlier.  Apparently it was now open but I had to do a three point turn to get through and and a four point turn to exit.  Phew!

This is the exit I had to maneuver.  The small car width road is on the other side of the dirt and cement piles.  I had planned to park along this building on the right but it was full.  So I took my chances that I would find something closer to the embarcadero and if not that I might be able to run around.  I did find parking and walked back to take this photo.

You can see behind the lady walking along that the baseball diamond was now blocked off.

This is where we used to park at the embarcadero. It was paved several weeks ago.  Sidewalks!

We used to park our cars side by side along here.  Instead there is a wide road of pavement with a sharp drop off to the dirt area.  No place to park a car.  Parking is next to impossible.  Lots of parking for ATV’s though.

This restaurant just behind the ticket area has a paved road that goes nowhere.  I am sure that someone has a plan and hopefully it includes parking.  This empty area between where I am standing and the Osuna restaurant would be a good area to park but it is all blocked off.

I know that I am going into a great deal of detail but these photos are also for the many folks who no longer RV nor live here and would love to know the que pasa of the Isla.

To the left of where I am standing ( also to the left of the ticket booth ) in the previous photo is some construction.  At this point I have no idea what it might be.  A store?

I was shocked to see this fancy turnstile unit where you insert 5 pesos and are admitted to a bano/toilet.  This is just to the left of the ticket booth.  Wow that was a fast install.

Had I not gone to pick up the lavenderia and of course Colin I would have missed all of this.  So many changes.  I do look forward to paved roads ( less dust, dirt and horrifically bumpy roads ) and can only hope for parking at the embarcadero.

He’s back :)

Colin returned late last Saturday afternoon.  That is his lancha coming over from Mazatlan.  I had to guess at the time he was arriving and it worked out perfectly.  When I took this photo I didn’t know if he was on this boat but I thought he was 🙂

He has no idea that I was there. He is the one in the hat at the front on the right.  He had emailed me earlier in the morning, about 9AM telling me that he only got to bed at 5AM!

I walked down to help him with all his bags.  I got to carry the guitar.

I saw this sweet dog laying in a pile of sand as we drove by.  He was sleeping very soundly despite all the noise and traffic around him.

We talked for a bit and then a few friends came over to chat and see how the trip went.  They keep calling  Colin “rock star”!  Funny.

I had quite the adventure going to pick Colin up and discovered just how much of a mess the Isla is.  But that is for another post.

Homecoming sunset.

Colin went to bed about 9:30PM and slept a full eleven hours.  He is back to normal now.

Adios Happy Hour

Friday about 5PM there was a happy hour at RV2 for three of the RVers who are heading North.  Two here in RV1 and one in RV2.

I was so busy having a good time chatting with everyone that I only managed one quick photo.  Usually our happy hours end up being dinner and this was no exception.

Very long story about wearing the chicken. It is the award for doing the stupidest thing.  If you get it you can only pass it on when someone else does something really stupid.  In Dave’s case he had to be home in Utah to sign for a delivery of a free bladder for his fishing boat.  So he flew home to sign for the delivery but missed his flight by ten minutes and had to overnight.  It all cost him and extra $500.00 plus for a free item!!  I may not have all the facts exactly correct….it was a very complicated situation.  It just may be that the extra $500.00 was over was he was already paying to fly home!!!

Nice sunset from RV2.  Different perspective.

Changes on the Isla

For some reason I never posted these photos taken on February 10th.  So many events have taken precedence in my posts in the last month.  I am certain that once we do this walk again we will see even more change.  Hard to believe that we only have just over three weeks left here in paradise.

Just at the end of the beach towards Mazatlan and the Playa Sur embarcadero is a very small parking lot.  This RV from Michigan is dry camping there.

What a view!  These folks have been here for months.

The path between the embarcadero and down to the beach.  You can see the trailer mid shot on the extreme left.  They must have made some sort of agreement with someone ?? for banos and showers.  Only people I know who would fit here are Juan and Chris.  Actually Croft I know that you could manage it but would Norma be happy dry camping for months on end?

Our goal on this walk was to check out two new casitas built for two ex Tres Amigso RVers.  They are located on the causeway along the shipping channel.  This is the narrow channel that the cruise ships and freighters enter and exit the port.

What a great view of the shipping channel behind the casitas.

Also a magnificent view of the beach we are on.

Standing in the backyard and looking towards the embarcadero/Isla you can see the amount of new construction happening.  There are also sidewalks and street lighting been added.  Who is paying for that?  None of this was developed a year ago.  Just behind the white tower ( imitation lighthouse ) a tall ( 3 -4 four story ) apartment building is going up and to right just behind Puesta del Sol is another new tall ( 4 – 5 story ) housing project going up.  The Isla is changing.

This is the causeway and the two casitas are being built on this side of the ship and before the water.

Got back from our walk to see a caravan coming into RV2.  Bit of a traffic jam as it was a Sunday of a long weekend.

Wee bit of a traffic jam.  I stepped in and did some traffic directing and that sped things up.  They had been stalled for a very long time.

The usual weekend vehicle stuck in the sand fiasco.  I think I counted ten people pour out of this truck.

After a few hours of digging themselves into a worse situation they did eventually get out when Ernie ( ex RVer living next door to the RV park ) hauled them out with his Jeep.

We call that RV TV and it happens a lot.  Just this morning a gringo female got stuck in the sand ( which for some reason seems deeper than ever ) .  Ernie and a friend popped up and helped push her motorbike onto the hard pack area.  But just before Ernie and friend showed up, a Mexican truck went past and slowed to watch what was happening but never stopped to offer help.  Not two minutes later that truck got stuck.  Took a long time to get unstuck.  As I said RV TV 🙄
