Back to Normal – for Now!

What a change in the last 36 hours.  So nice to be able to leave the windows open and to breathe fresh air.

Sunday morning. Clouds, no smoke and fresh air.

I wish I knew a way to reach those that are responsible for so much damage.

We finally had a very few short showers Sunday afternoon.  So happy to say that late in the evening and most of the night it rained steadily.

This morning we were blessed with blue skies.

Sadly the rain has not done much to tamper the fires.  They say that we may be back to smoke filled skies by the end of the week.

A great day for this couple.

I wish I could say that we had a great day.  Colin and I are very aware of the weather due to our business.  The forecast on Sunday was for a clear beautiful day today.  So Colin sent texts out to a few of his clients.  We have so many clients who need perfect weather photography before we leave the end of September.  Today was the first perfect day in close to six weeks.  None of them could get it together for today.  What a waste of the day.  At least financially.  We certainly enjoyed having the windows wide open and the sun streaming in.  It is rather cool for this time of year, only a high of 72F with lows of around 50F.  Almost feels like fall.

I hope that wherever you are that your day was extra special for you.

Yesterday was a day of firsts

It was the first time in as long as we can remember, at least ten years, that we went to see a movie in a theater.

Of course it had to be Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, having recently seen the play Mamma Mia.

The movie was much better than I had anticipated, both a prequel and a sequel. Very well done.

The idea to go see the movie came about because of a comment made by a blog reader who also happens to be a blogger herself.  With some back and forth correspondence we finally were able to set a date that worked for the four of us to meet at the movie theater.  It was also a first in over ten years for them to step into a movie theater as well.

A first time meeting Bob and Stacie and enjoying dinner together after the movie.  There is never a lack of things to discuss with fellow RVers.

It was a very fun day for Colin and I.  We are thinking about heading back to see a movie sometime within the next year 😆   You might want to check out Stacie’s blog by clicking here.

A glimpse of hope

The wind blew very strongly all day yesterday and even more so in the afternoon.  See the whitecaps on the lake.

We had a wee miracle around 4:30PM yesterday.  Blue sky.  The wind had blown the smoke over a bit. Gosh it was so nice to see it and to breathe fresher air.  There was still smoke around but this was a patch of heaven.  Don’t ever take blue sky for granted.

Interesting how the smoke is higher surrounding the sun.  You can just make out some blue sky to the right of the shot.

Yes the smoke makes for interesting photos but I am beyond tired of it. Colin hasn’t worked for weeks.

Colin picked up a wild sockeye salmon yesterday and they only had huge pieces, double what we normally purchase.  Had I not been bogged down at my desk dealing with a serious GST ( tax issue ) at 6:30PM ( on the phone with the Government ) I might have thought to suggest that he freeze half the salmon.  As you can see, he  first marinaded it all so he had to cook it all.  That is a lot of fish for us to eat over the next few days.  It was cooked to melt in your mouth perfection.

As Colin is not doing any photography he is busy with many other chores that need to be done.  Things like sorting out the RV basements, checking the batteries and weeding the garden and generally getting ready for our departure which is just on the horizon.  There are always things that come up like the fellow who has been caring for our home in the winter saying that he no longer wants to do it.  Now we have to find someone else to collect the mail and check the heaters we leave on in here when away.

He also is spending a lot more time with his guitars which he loves.

The sun this morning.  We awoke to smoke filled skies.  The sun was red and then thicker smoke or perhaps clouds began to pass in front of it making for an interesting photo.

As today wore on the smoke got thicker.  I can no longer see the highway as I type.  The planes are still flying but it appears to me that there are fewer coming in today.  No sunset tonight, I don’t even know where the sun is.  Sadly the rain has not materialized.  Sorry for yet another blog on the smoke but that is the reality of our lives at the moment.  Good news, it is only 7:30PM, time to call it the end of a long day.  Yesterday we didn’t eat until after 9:30PM, tonight will be much better.  Guess what’s for dinner tonight?

A non computer day

I don’t think that I was even on my computer for a full hour yesterday.  A lovely change indeed.  The day started with my annual dental clean and check.  As usual everything was 100%.  From there I went from here to there, at least nine stops in all.  I was gone from 10AM until 5:30PM.  Needless to say I was too weary to  post last evening.

One stop was a holistic appointment up in the Ponds area.  Just as I shut the engine off I noticed this deer having a late lunch.

So glad I had my camera with me.

Someone came out of a home nearby and the deer moved to the next yard and shortly sprinted off to who knows where.  Sadly their natural environment is being taken over by new home builds.

Somewhere down there in the smoke is the bridge that connects Kelowna to West Kelowna.  As I drove down the mountain the smoke became even thicker.

Lots of shopping and most of it for our trip to the US and Mexico 🙂  The computer research is finally over.  Time for action and organizing.  We leave five weeks today.

Just a wee bit less smoke.  But the rain has been postponed until possibly Saturday.

Fire update

By midday yesterday we could see just a bit further.  The smell was less and we slept with open windows last night 😀  So I actually slept a few hours here and there.  Today is about the same except the air quality index went down from a 10+ to a 5 or 6 which is a huge improvement.  I still can’t see the mountains towards Kelowna but I can see trees on the hills out my desk window.  The sun appeared to be a bit brighter today, not so orange.

Vancouver is smothered in smoke since late Sunday, so Colin’s big job there has been delayed until the smoke is gone and the sun shines.

This is the good news……

Fingers crossed it is rain only and no lightening.

We leave in five weeks so we really need to get some jobs completed 😐  Colin is making quiet noises about cancelling our October trip to the US.  We would take quite a hit on our non refundable event that we were to attend.  I don’t want to cancel but we do have to be realistic.  If he can get the big job done in Vancouver that will be a huge help.

I just want to share this with you.  They are saying that these fires are the new normal.  I certainly hope not.
