My yard boy

Way back on August 8th I took these photos when we were totally smoked out.  Colin’s birthday tree needed a haircut.  It was touching the house on the left.

Definitely needs some work.

I have a lawn boy whom I pay to cut our grass and hedge and apply fertilizer.  Much cheaper than doing it our self.  However on this tree trimming, Colin said that he wanted to do it himself.

So he looked into renting a tall tree pruner but once he checked with Home Depot he discovered that with 1.5 rentals the tool would be paid for.  So he bought it.

Pretty nifty device.

Colin did a great job.  You can see how smoky it was.

It even cut that thick branch.

He even cleans up.  Good job Colin, gracias.

Now that was an interesting sunset

Taken last evening.  Most interesting.

I imagine that those white lines were made by a variety of aircraft.  However they are in unusual locations and the airport is the left of the photo.  There are two lines on the right and the top line was being made by an aircraft as I took this photo.  It was flying from the top right down to the center of the picture.

As I worked late at my desk last night I was bothered by fruit flies flying into my face.  Finally I said enough and made up a glass of white wine vinegar with a bit of dish soap in it.  I then covered it with saran wrap and poked a few holes onto the top of the glass.  Nope, those flies were not interested at all.  They kept flying around my wine glass even though I had to place a cover over the glass after each sip.  So I got up yet again and this time I made up a glass of the same wine I was drinking with the saran top complete with holes.  Nope, those flies were still not interested.  They were still swarming around my covered wine glass.  My conclusion, though not scientific, is that those fruit flies are snobs.  They only drink from a fancy wine glass 😉

Colin has been out since approximately 6AM, it is now 8PM and he has not stopped taking photos.  When on a break from the one job, waiting for the light to move around, he drove over to start another photo shoot which he hopes to finish tomorrow.  I expect him home between 90 minutes to two hours from now.  Then we will have dinner.  Our life does not have set routines.  Rain is in the forecast 😥  It is still smoky out but we are on the countdown time wise, so with his clients approval he is taking photos in less than perfect conditions.   Meanwhile he brought his new computer home about 10PM yesterday but has not had the time to set it up and even see if it is working properly.

We leave three weeks tomorrow.

September Calendar Girls

Taken shortly before they went to doggie heaven.  I was at a meeting of our leaseholders association on Saturday and while waiting for folks to arrive and get settled they were running a slideshow of our park.  I looked up and suddenly there was a huge photo of our girls here in the dog park.  Tears immediately welled up.  It was a shock to see them so unexpectedly.  No idea how their photo got put into the slide rotation.

Decent sunset last evening. I am so missing my Isla sunsets.

Two ducks basking in the rays of the sunset.

Colin and I thank you for all of your lovely comments re Mommio.  She truly is a unique lady.

It was a great visit

Colin had a lot of quality one on one time with Mommio.  They both had a blast.  From all of the photos that I am now seeing it appears that most of their time was spent eating :-D. Wish I’d been there, I love eating out.

Colin always asked her where did she want to go?  This was their first night and they dined at the Lobster House.  She ate every bite on her plate.

She had pancakes for breakfast at the home. When Colin got there around 10AM she said that she wanted to go out for bacon and eggs.  Between them they ate all of that food.

Mommio loves to be driven around the city.  After an hour or so she said that she wanted a sundae.

Colin took her to a music store and bought her two harmonicas which she used to play.  He wanted to give her a musical outlet.   They walked the mall a bit but it was too much for her.  Eventually they ended up at the old CN hotel, the Fort Gary, her very favorite place.  She only goes there when Colin takes her.  He has been taking there every year for at least twenty years.  Some of the older staff still remember them.  You guessed it, they ate the entire cheese plate and drank all the wine.

Mommio and the hotel are the same age.

Mommio played Colin’s teeny travel guitar on his last day there.

It was difficult for him to leave her but he does have to work.  Well he had jobs all lined up but the smoke came in yet again this morning.  Hard to believe that it is September already but fall is in the air.  Leaves are already swirling off the trees.  It snowed yesterday at Big White Ski Resort, a local mountain just 35 miles SE of here.  Glad to say that we are leaving in about three weeks.  I have a hunch that winter is not going to be fun here this year.

Colin loves to joke around with Mommio, she could not stop laughing.  He is so happy to hear her still laughing.  He calls her everyday.

Death of a computer

Colin landed safely yesterday at 11PM and I was there to pick him up.  We ended up chatting until 1:30AM 🙄

This morning when he went to turn on his 27″ iMac desktop it struggled to come to life.  Eventually he called Apple Support and with them suggesting turn off then turn on holding down certain keys repeatedly it just up and died.

It is never convenient when your computer dies but this time it was the absolute worse time possible.  Colin has not worked most of the summer due to the smoke.  Today we had 87% great weather conditions.  Half the day was spent on sorting out the computer issue.  It was obvious that we had to purchase a new computer on the Sunday of a long weekend.  Turns out that there was only one 27″ iMac computer left in all of Kelowna.  Meanwhile the clouds were coming in and time was ticking.  He got a few small jobs done and then headed over to Best Buy.

Tomorrow is supposed to have clouds and showers but following that there are three almost perfect days to get some work done.  We need a computer pronto.  Hopefully tomorrow will be the day that we get the new one up and running with all data transferred.

Meanwhile the latest news report states that we are likely to be inundated with smoke again.  Please, please don’t let it happen.

It has been a wine evening for me 😳   Dinner is almost ready now at 8:30PM.  Colin’s first job is at 7AM tomorrow.  Life goes on.

The end of the visit with Mommio coming soon.  Stay tuned 🙄
