How we spent yesterday

Colin is systematically washing the RV and then waxing it.  He is half way done at this point.

Meanwhile I have been upgraded to walk 15 minutes non stop twice per day along with my regular exercises.  Still no beach walking.

It is very boring to walk the parking lot but sometimes I get lucky and have company. Yesterday Karen walked a lap or two with me.

The patio paint continues to peel bit by bit.

We have decided to just let it go for the rest of this season and repaint next November.

We went to the Tiki Hut for the second week in a row.  Sadly my margarita was crap!  I actually sent it back and the replacement was no better.  Apparently they had a different bartender this week.  I was so disappointed as the two I had last week were the best ever.  We will give them one more chance.  However the shrimp burger was as great as the first week.

2020 & no more calendar girls

The front cover for 2020.  This is the same photo that Colin doctored up for our Christmas card photo last month.

For the first time in 23 years we are no longer using photos of the girls in our annual calendar.  Instead we are going to be using photos we have taken in our travels the previous year ( or years ).

January 2020 is a collage of our time in Venice in May 2017.  It was our first trip to Europe since we got our first doxies in 1997 and since we lost our girls the end of March 2017.  In between those years we only traveled in the RV as a family.

More music

This past Monday, the hosting of the musicians continued but this time at the other end of the park over at Bob & Majories.  They along with Darwin and Audrey offered to host the afternoon.  It was fun to be able to just make a salad and cut up some fruit and go and sit and relax and enjoy the day.

There was a larger group as many others had been invited to enjoy the music.  When we host we ask Tom & Mandy to do the invites as sometimes it is nicer for the musicians to just be on their own and to take a break.

On the right is R.J. Mischo, an extremely talented harmonica player, the featured guest for this weeks concert series.  He is wearing a green scarf to keep the sun off of his neck.

Because there were so many of us, the venue was more spread out.

R.J. even played one of Colin’s guitars and sang a few tunes.

Tuesday evening we attended his performance at La Bohemia at the Plazuela Machado. It was so popular that they had a 5:30PM seating as well at the 7:45PM performance that we went to.  They are now also doing a third performance on Wednesdays.  Every week until the end of March there will be a very special artist performing along with Rob Lamonica’s band.

It was a privilege to be able to listen to R.J. play.  He makes his harmonicas (  at times he uses several within the same song ) create music that you would never think you would hear from a harmonica. No wonder he is considered one of, if not the, best harmonica player in the world.

Between my 4800 steps this past Tuesday ( up from 2800, my max since surgery ) and sitting at the table with my leg half stretched out for a few hours my knee and lower leg were aching.  So between using heat and my continued exercises I am back on track.  I have missed so many of the jazz/blues concerts this winter but was happy to get to this one.  A bit of discomfort was worth every moment to attend that that special evening.

I can’t stay in a cocoon forever and need to start to spread my wings – within reason 8-). Here I am 24 hours later and I am totally fine pain wise.

The fun continues

We went for a wee drive out to the highway Saturday to fill the Jeep with fuel.  First fuel fill since early November.  Other than the day that Colin drove me into Mazatlan for my surgery we have been only driven around the Isla, mostly to the embarcadero to catch the boat across to the city and to take in and pick up our laundry. This truck full of precisely stacked green peppers was parked beside us.  I guess the driver is careful to not hit a tope at full speed.

Middle of the day and these three were running along the road next to Estrella Del Mar. They picked up speed as we approached but stayed just off the road, fortunately.

The last special sunset we had or that I was able to get a photo of was last Saturday.

As always Sundays brings families to the beach. This family was packing up at the end of a fun day for them.  Two things to note here, the first is how the door opens from front to back, opposite of the normal vehicle door opening.  The second is that kids are being put in the back of this 2 or 3 seater for the ride home.  A piece of wood was placed to keep the back lid up and was tied with rope to keep it from shutting as they drove.

They almost got stuck, you can see the sand from the spinning tires.

And off they go.  Quite a few people in that vehicle.

That reminds me, last Friday, Colin went to pick up our laundry.  On the way back he had to suddenly brake ( he wasn’t going fast but still had to stop quickly ).  A woman on an ATV was rushing past with one hand on her Moto.  She was traveling rather quickly considering she was holding a child with the other hand as she breast-fed it while driving 😯  Umm, sadly no photos of that, totally unexpected.

Well I am not going to be walking the beach at least not this week.  I had a bit of a reaction on my good leg because of one of my new physio exercises so that one has been replaced with an exercise using a stretch band.  I don’t like it but will do it.  I have also been tasked with walking ten minutes non stop twice per day here in our parking lot.  Based on that and how I feel, that may free me to walk the hard packed area on the beach next week. I did it twice yesterday but went out in the evening to a concert but I sat way too long in one position and that has created some pain.  Working on that now.  Working on finding a balance that allows me to have a bit of a life.

I think I might have been presenting my case to walk on the beach here.

Still no progress on my being able to make blog comments on anyone using Blogger.  Just so you know that I am still reading on a daily basis.

7:30PM and off to do my third set of exercises for today.  Then dinner  😆

Fun at the Tiki Hut

At this moment in life, my priority is getting my knee better.  I have odd pains and sometimes feel ‘shooting stars’ in my knee.  It is looking better and is barely inflamed. However the exercises are taking an enormous amount of time each day and that is my priority.  I also realized that if I were home or in any city that I would likely be doing a few walks per day around a block or two.  Here I have been told that I am not able to walk the beach for at least a month.  However that means that I have nowhere to walk except here in the gravel RV parking lot.  That is not even a bit of fun.  Why can’t I walk on the beach?  I am thinking of walking when the tide is low and the sand is hard packed.  Of course I do have to walk thru the soft sand to get to the flat stuff but Colin will be there to steady me.  I would appreciate some input from those who have had meniscus surgery.  The doctor told me to do what I normally do until I get fatigued and then I need to rest.  Walking the beach is what I do when I am here.  Any input would be great including if I am good to walk barefoot as I usually do.  I will not be wearing running shoes.

I am going to have to make some changes to my routine.  I tend to write my blog at night just before dinner.  However I now have exercises to do at that time and somehow the day gets away from me which means that the blog is falling behind.  I had to force myself to get outside today for a few hours which is a good thing.  Not quite sure how I am going to handle this but I will do my best to keeping posting but it will no longer be on a day basis, at least not for a few weeks.

Speaking of fun we finally were able to go check out the Tiki Bar here on the Isla at Puesta Del Sol.

This is a newish Friday event from 3:00 – 6:30PM.   This band is called T_42.  Paloma is a vocalist who joined the group this past Friday.  She is sitting down because she recently broke her foot.  I don’t know if she is part of the original band but both they and her are excellent.

Everyone seems to enjoy them.  As you can see we have been having mostly overcast and grey skies for the past week.

Lots of smiles.

I just found my place to go for the best margarita ever. I had two and the second one was as perfect as the first one. Colin is drinking limonada.

It certainly looks like I would prefer to be dancing.

I had several offers but I had to say no. Barb came by and said lets just stand in place and dance. Lovely!

Laura and Alan got surprised by friends from back home, here for a one week visit. Welcome to the Isla Debbie and Richard.  Carol on the right has the largest smile.  She and Rod were the ones who made the surprise happen.  Well done.

We had the Tiki Bar shrimp burger. It was very good ( not as great as Tony’s ) but we certainly would have it again.  You do have to remember to ask for the shrimp to be left whole and not chopped up and mixed with other things.  Looks like we just might be back at the Tiki Bar come Friday.
