Prayers are being answered

What we woke up to Saturday morning, still smoky. We did have 0.6 of a millimetre of rain in the early morning hours, not much to speak of.

This was the reason they put in an evacuation alert for the entire City of Vernon late Friday afternoon.

They actually did have huge pieces of fire debris fly thru the air over the lake and spot fires were put out.

Such a dramatic shot. Vernon had a very small amount of precipitation early Saturday morning as did the fire area. But that along with cooler temperatures and less wind allowed those fight this inferno to keep the fire more contained.

The smoke cleared a bit as the day progressed and we got out for a ride around the park

Different light at sunset last night but we were a bit clearer for which we were grateful. We actually had a late afternoon shower.

The smoke enhances the colours.

Despite no rain in the forecast early this Sunday morning we had rain for almost three hours. Here in Kelowna we received  close to 6.6 millilitres of rain. Further south they got more rain which was greatly needed. The big fire as pictured  above only got 2.5 millilitres over the entire weekend but the cooler air helped a great deal. There was no recent significant growth overnight Saturday.  Sadly today it was announced that one family lost two homes as well as several other structures  and their high value 35 acres of Douglas Fir timber. They had no insurance. Weather conditions allowed for most of the evacuations alerts in Vernon to be rescinded this afternoon. A huge relief for all of us.  Many have being praying for the fires to calm a bit and they have, not only this one but others in the area. Sadly the forecast is for hot and dry for the week ahead. All we can do is keep praying and take it one day at a time.

We are doing our best to live each day to the fullest despite the fires and increasing Covid cases not only here in our province but specially our area. And Mazatlan is not doing well at all.  It is not looking good for us heading south this winter.  Do I have a second winter in Canada in me?

Thank you. Today was the best day we have had in ever so long. Sadly tomorrow the heat starts to rise and the dryness and of course the hots winds in the afternoon.

So far so good but the heat is coming and fiercely. All we can do is take each day as if comes.

The pictures you have taken the past couple of posts are so pretty. Which seems like such a contradiction because of the reason making the pictures amazing. Praying for relief from the fires. I sympathize with not being able to get to Mexico, I miss it. Are the winters in Kelowna really cold?
I like the last comic 😉 I haven’t heard that one before.

Good observation Pauline re the contradiction. Last winter was our first winter in over twenty years here in Canada and it was a shock to us but we actually enjoyed it. If we decide to stay we will be coming back to Edmonton sometime in the fall – ? September. As to the winter here we were told that it was very mild last winter. Of course I was cold. You can use the search bar ( top right ) to put in winter or snow or ? but probably better to go back to November 2020 in the archives and start from there and read each post right to the spring. We had some great fun times, such as watching both eagles and later coyotes playing with golf balls on the ice.

The fires are so terrible, we’ve been lucky so far on the island, only 2 small ones. It is so dry here though – we did get the same 2 days of rain except the second poured several times and I believe we got a couple of inches total. It was pure bliss. I hear of so many planning vacations out of country without any thought as to what the covid situation/hospital situation is where they are thinking of going. I truly hope you get to go this year.
