I voted and some travel statistics

It is a long weekend here in Canada, Thanksgiving. Yes we are well ahead of the end of November celebration in the US.  To Colin and I it makes no difference as everyday is a work day at the moment.  I did get out and vote today.  We have four advance voting days which ends at 8PM Monday.  As our voter cards are incorrect I decided to go out and get it done today.  Sadly Colin has chained himself to his desk as he completes tons of photo shop that all have deadlines.  He is hoping that he will be able to vote at the polling station here in our Park on the 19th, the official voting day, despite the fact that his card says otherwise.

As I drove up to the advance polling station I was at a loss as to where to park.  The lot was full and I could see people lined up down the stairs to the parking lot.  A worker bee was dividing the line in two, one for Poll 601 and another for Poll 602, all based on your civic address.  As we inched inside, yet another worker bee was taking your voter card and checking a thick list and writing a three line code of numbers onto your voter card.  Much more inching along until I got to the table, yup just the one table for Poll 601 and one for the other Poll.  She then checked me off her list after she verified my ID and then I had to sign that all was correct.  Finally I got my ballot and was able to make my X in the circle that I thought was the best.  Back to the same table were I was able to put my ballot in the box.  It was nice to see a new voter, just turned 18 there about to vote for the first time in his life.  I would say that in the 40 minutes that I was in line I noticed about six very young voters and another dozen mid 20’s voters.  Nice to see.

Today I finalized our travel itinerary and make some reservations.  Yup, we are actually going to stay four nights in RV parks between here and the Mexican border.  Sometimes easier is better.  Still not sure how we are going to travel with Carmeh as she is better but we want her to use ramps only.  How to fence off the RV at each stop 🙁   We will just deal with it as it happens.

I always do an analysis of our trip to Mexico when we return in the spring but this year because of my Dad’s estate I have only now got it together.  I needed to do it in order to help me prepare my budget for this winter.  So here are some of facts and nothing but the facts 😉

~ the cost for our Mexican vehicle insurance for both the RV and the car came to $859.56USD and we received a refund from our BC ( Canadian ) insurance company for $694.90CAD.  As the dollar was close to par last year I put it down that the insurance cost us $164.66, an excellent deal for us.

~ from door to door we drive a total of 5807.2 miles.  We only spent $2495.00USD ( I converted pesos into US dollars ) on diesel fuel and filled our tank just before crossing back into Canada so we are fairly full at the moment.  The highest price we paid heading South was $3.709/gallon and the lowest was $3.199/gallon.  Returning North, the highest we paid was $2.749 and the lowest was $2.489 @ the Love’s @ Gila Bend, Arizona.   Likely we will do much better this year.

~we spent four months @ Tres Amigos RV Park on Isla de la Piedra and we paid a total of $1943.00USD including electrical power, an extra metered charge.  So 121 nights cost us $16.05US per night.  A real steal in my opinion to be right on the ocean with miles of beach.

~ I could go on and on but just to mention that tolls cost us approximately 4000 pesos and laundry for four months was only 2000 pesos.  Great deals.

As I mentioned earlier we are slowly working to leaving on November 4th.  The big trick is going to be collecting on all the last minute invoices we  are sending out.  Hopefully by Wednesday they will all be sent out.

To my Canadian readers, enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend.
