First time we drive our car off the Isla since the hurricane last November
Now that our company was gone we really needed to get some fuel in the tank of our car. We usually manage with just the one tank but we have had extra company this winter and many back and forth trips around the Isla and to and from the embarcadero. With less than an 1/8 of a tank it was time to head off the Isla last Friday morning.

The road is in great shape. All but 3KM has been paved. I remember just a few years back that it took us 4 hours to do the 8 miles mostly due to overgrown vegetation and our RV could not get thru. It took just under 20 minutes last Friday.

Here is the beginning of the original road. It is actually in great condition due to constant grading.

At least 1 to 1.5 KM of that road is being prepared for paving. That is expected to happen within the next two weeks.

My favorite purchase was a Crown of Thorns Plant aka a Christ Plant. Mine is a lighter pink color. I had one a few years ago but the ocean came over the wall and that was that. So very happy to have found a nice replacement.

A huge visual surprise at the end of the paved road. Isla de la Piedra is literally on the edge of the shipping channel. It was a cruise ship day.

Great photos as usual. I always feel warm when looking at your beach shots … it’s good especially since it is snowing right now.
Nice that the road is better but the Isla will never be the same as we loved it. Progress is happening.
Every time I see the hat guy here in San Miguel he shoves a hat towards me and says, “Wanna hat?” Makes me laugh… The road looks nice, but like George says, it will be the end of an era.
