Carnaval fireworks, March 2nd

We have seen the fireworks from the top of the Freeman Hotel at least three times, maybe four.  We loved them and thought that they were the best that we had ever seen.  I was wrong.  Seeing them from a boat just a few feet away from the launching barge is beyond spectacular.  In fact after the show a few friends were sitting around trying to come up with superlative adjectives.  But I am getting ahead of myself.

We had always wondered what it would be like to see fireworks from the water.  What better place than Mazatlan at Carnaval.  So I started investigating in December.  I found this boat…

…which would hold forty of my friends.  It took awhile to find those who were interested, to collect the money and to finalize the deal by the end of January.  Many other details were involved as well, such as an open bar, snacks, no Banda music,  clean washrooms and being picked up here at the RV Park and returned after midnight.

It had been cool and windy the week prior but Saturday, March 2nd was warm and the sea was calm.

We were picked up by an Isla limousine aka as a monkey wagon, both driven by a tractor.  Certainly not the smoothest ride but fun.

The actual cruise from the Isla embarkation to our viewing point was most interesting as well.  Once we got past the entrance to the shipping channel  and out to the open sea, we began to bob a bit and sway from side to side.  Most were not affected.

Lovely seeing Mazatlan lit up.

We were surrounded by boats of all shapes and sizes.

Fortunately we had an accomplished captain who kept maneuvering us exactly where we needed to be in order to get the best view.  He actually kept inching his way closer and closer to the front line so to speak.  We were in the best position possible to view the fireworks.

Myself and Ann who said she felt like a kid in a candy shop.

The ratio of people to the size of the catamaran was perfect. We had lots of room and were able to move freely from the lower to upper deck.

Several brands of beer as well as rum, tequila, vodka, sodas, fruit juice and water were offered along with a fabulous display of food. The tour company called them snacks but it was a full dinner.

There were smiles on each and every face.

Carlos our captain.

I will let the fireworks speak for themselves.

These firework photos were taken by Colin who was using my iPhone for the first time ever.  Everyone says they do a better job and without having the option of using a tripod on a moving vessel he went for it.  I think he did a great job for an iPhone newbie.

Nothing like being right up close to the action.

So ended a most wonderful evening.  Well not quite as we still had to cruise back to the Isla and get a limousine ride back home 😉   Everyone was ecstatic.  I was overjoyed that the event had surpassed all my expectations.   By the time we got back to the RV Park, my group of friends were asking to do it again next year.  So I said why not.  Colin and I met with the owner of the catamaran the very next day and have negotiated a slightly better price for February 22, 2020.  We still have seven spots open 😎
