Electrical issues

Several weeks ago we had an electrician come in to hook up an outside plug.  We had it more or less wired when the house was built but decided we didn’t need it.  Well now we do, mostly for the ease of charging the golf cart.  When Crack Electric was here at that time he had to go into our electrical box to make the proper connection.

This is what he saw.

This is what he saw.

Whoever had wired our home a few years back must have been obsessed with wires.  Crack Electric, yes that really is the company name, informed us that it was not to code.  It likely was not dangerous but best to clean it up and do it right, just in case.

So the other day he brought in one the young fellas in training.

So the other day he brought in one of  his guys to do the job.

This is how much extra copper and other wire he took out.

Looks much better now and safe.

The bill is in the mail but I think the approximate $100.00 was worth it.

  1. Wow what a mess and the original wiring was done by an electrician?
I have wiring many of my own houses myself and am not licenesd but sure know how to do it.

Yes the original was done by an electrician. Maybe he was really lazy or just didn’t care.

  3. What a mess. Our box was done by some sort of an artist as it looks like all the wires have been straightened with a flat iron. I don’t think there’s anything terribly wrong or unsafe with having the extra wire but it sure makes it difficult to do any additional work like you just had done. I can’t blame the new tradesman at all for wanting to clean it up.

Well aren’t you the lucky ones 🙂 We really didn’t think it was an issue either and decided to not call the builder.

OMG, I don’t know what’s funnier the before picture of the picture of the wads of excess wire. Thanks for the laugh tonight.

You only got charged $100 to fix that?! Wow.

Do you know how many amps your service is? Just curious. We only get 100amps out here. It sounds like a lot after so many years of living off 15 and sometimes 30, but it’s getting used up quickly!

So happy to give you a chuckle, you have had a busy few days. He had quoted $90.00 so we shall see what the final bill comes to.

We live in an RV Park so our huge Park Model home ( 970 sq ft ) runs on a maximum of 50 AMPS.

$100 well spent. Looks very professional.

  6. That looks much better, not sure what the first guy was thinking!

I didn’t think you could get an electrician to even have a cup of coffee for $100.
