The other day we drove into Mazatlan to buy essentials. We probably won’t have to drive in again for 4-6 weeks.
We found a wonderful vivero but the prices were rather high so we kept going and somehow ended up at the marina. Then we headed south along the Golden Zone which it rather empty of tourists right now. We decided to check out some ceramic plant pots but we were on the wrong side of the street. In the process of turning around we came across a wonderful place selling macetas & plants. This is an empty lot that a young entrepreneur has taken over for as long as he can. It is best reached by turning right just after Burger King ( Applebee’s is on the left hand side ) and driving past Starbucks. Park and you will astounded at the selection. I felt like it was Christmas morning. We certainly gathered up as much as we could.
They also sell soil here but it is 90 pesos per large bag versus the mix of soil & sand that Chava is selling for 30 pesos. Two very different types of soil. From here we moved onto Sam’s Club, Mega, and a few other places before heading home. The road is much better now that is has been graded but still rough in spots and very dusty. The other place we bought pots at was just south of Villa Union on the MEX 15 libre, located between KM 248 & 249. It is a furniture shop located on the East side of the road that sells large macetas. They wanted 300 pesos each but we got them down to 200 pesos. There is a nursery not far from the airport road turn off but it is difficult to find but if you want to check it out just ask me for directions.
Marjorie I am sorry to tell you that I killed your gardenia, actually I think maybe our resident iguana had something to do with it. You now have a much nicer & larger plant that is likely to bloom just as you arrive.
